South Course re-opens after being closed for a week for aeriation. As expected, the greens are bumpy and slow. To my surprise, no residual sand remaining? Several of the fairways in certain areas are having sod replaced. Strange that was not completed last week while the course was closed, but maybe the sod was not available? Anyway, nice to see improvements, whenever they are made. Overall, course is in good shape and a pleasure to play.

Out Tuesday 3/24 at 11:40 as single riding with a single, joining a riding twosome who played blues while we played whites. Road testing some swing adjustments and so wanted to take advantage of Woodley's open forgiveness. Teeing grounds never a problem here. Fairways were mostly good but I did experience some hardpan/bare lies as they are firming up and getting a thinner in spots. As a result, more than average rollout. With a few slightly thicker exceptions, rough here is not punitive and adds to the expansiveness. I was in one bunker, the sand was good, but it needed some cleanup and grooming. The green surrounds were good. I had good day with my short game and frequently having a nice lie for chipping contributed to giving confidence there. I enjoyed the greens and they were the highlight — clean, mostly true and at a nice speed on the quick side. I recall the ninth green had some scarring issues in spots but that was unusual. Pace was good @ 4.25 hours. While not all aspects of my game were strong, it was a better than average round for me and reinforced the adjustments I'm making. Good times.

This is the nicest I have seen the course.

Very lush thick kikuya fairways that were a joy to hit from. Perfect lies all day. Fairways 9/10

Rough was also thick and lush and probably 4-6 inches in most places. Rated 9/10

Was only in one greenside bunker left on 3 that was raked perfectly and in great shape. Rated 8/10

Tees were all very lush and mainly level. Rated 8.5/10

Greens here are very small on some holes like 1 and 14 and are larger on other holes. They were very receptive and rolling like pure glass. Fairly quick maybe an 11 on the stimp. You can tell they really take pride in their greens here.

The more I play here I enjoy the layout. First two holes are strong dogleg to the left while holes 3 and 13 dogleg to the right. Most holes are narrow here which I enjoy and gives you a nice line to aim ond concentrate on. Like most courses staying below the pins here provide ample scoring opportunities. Get on the wrong side of these green complexes and your chipping skills will be put to the test. The kikuya fringes surrounding the greens grab bump and run chips so most times you do need to fly chips to the green.
