Since Weber reviewed the South today, I will comment on the North course.

North is higher elevation than South and all the water drains towards the South. 43 degrees at tee off. Surprising the North fairways were reasonably dry. A few mud balls here and there. CPO today. Greens were soft but retained all their speed. Holes were place in high spots which created some absurd putts if slightly past pin high. Sand was perfect today. The maintenance crew has really dialed itself in over the past month. Drainage improvements made in the last year have limited the amount of downtime to prepare the golf course for play.

Went out this AM to play temp said 32F yikes. Went to the course and of course they had a frost delay. Had cup of coffee and breakfast sandwich (wow a whole 5 bucks no tax) and came home. Went back out after Noon and it was a balmy 48 F but acceptable.

Walked 9 holes as only the back 9 was open due to some areas on the front still needing water draining and repair from the storm.

Back 9 was clean and playable with no issues. I like this little track a lot. Keep it in the fairway and all is good.

Boxes, fairways and greens all playable with no issues. I will go back and play 18 on Sunday morning as the weather is expected to be much nicer by then.

I finally got my clubs out here so I wanted to play a “nice” course. I’ve been cycling around Key Biscayne a bit and have passed by Crandon Golf course, so I chose this as my first stop here in the Miami area. I played on Tuesday with a 10AM tee time. Chandon Golf sits in the middle of Key Biscayne island so I was expecting great things as this is a nice area just over the bridge from downtown Miami. The price point also suggested that I was in for a treat. Whereas the course layout was very nice with numerous water hazards and forced carries throughout the entire course, the conditions were a let down.

The greens themselves were large with moderate undulations. Basically what you would expect on a resort course. They didn’t look very pretty, but actually rolled ok. Fairly smooth at a medium pace was not desirable but acceptable. Fairways were the big letdown. Brown and bare spots throughout the entire course. What wasn’t bare was generally patchy. Fairways were generously wide and offered good roll out. If you don’t mind a little foot nudge to give yourself a good lie then all is well. If you play the ball down then it’s a frustrating day for sure.

Tee boxes were ok. Definitely level and most were divot free or at least had plenty of area you could find good footing and area to tee it up. Bunkers were really nice. They matched the price point. The sand traps were consistent throughout the entire course and between the four of us, we were in probably a total 30 bunkers so we had a good sampling of the bunkers. It was one of those days!

Carts had GPS to the flag and cart service came around a couple of times. Overall customer service was ok. Nothing to brag about, but nothing to complain about either.

The course had easily 15+ water hazards plus a few views of the Miami skyline. A big plus on that. I do think give the location of this course right on the edge of the water, they could have done a better job with views of the bay but overall, not bad. Given the location and course layout, I’m sure I’ll play here again at some point but not sure it’ll be anytime soon given the current conditions. I would just like it to be a little better for the cost.

The setting of the course in the hills of Fairfield is wonderful. Great views from just about everywhere on the course.

The course is still wonderful and truly even better than I remember. Signed up for the Loyal-Tee rewards program ($65 Annual for Sr) and got a great $37 walking rate. I walked as it was CPO and felt walking in a straight line most of the 18 instead of sideways was better.
The course is a little hilly but not that bad with the right push cart.

Lucky I was with a local as this course has many water hazards and he was helpful pointing them out for me before we teed off on those holes.

Wide fairways and still a little damp but that helped on some holes of not running off into the trees, of which there are many.

Tee boxes were just fine. Bunkers I missed but they looked good but still damp.

Greens were in great shape even after the rain. And large with plenty of undulations to conquer. But because they were still soft from the rain they were playable. I do not think they would be less forgiving when they are dry and firm.

Very nice clubhouse and had lunch in the small but quaint restaurant and food and prices were excellent.

I am looking forward to many many more rounds here on this very fine golf course.
