Played on Saturday, April 25, in a fundraiser for the Riviera Village Sportsmens Club. Scramble format with a 10:00 am shotgun start. About 20 some odd years ago, two co-workers and I would play this course on Friday mornings before work. So I was interested to see how it had changed.

The course is pretty much the same except the greens are better. They were really very nice, running at a fast speed and rolling nicely. The course is a par three layout with holes running from 80 to 180 yards. Easy walking course which is good because it has been years since I started drinking beer at 10:30 in the morning. They are playing the first tee from the longer, upper, tee. I thought back in the day that they were not using that tee in order to limit possible shots going into the hotel's patio. It would take a really, really bad shot to do that though so apparently they have adjusted. The worst part of the course was the tee boxes which are really in need of grass. There was a mat on each tee but we were playing from the markers and those areas were lousy. Otherwise no complaints, the course is lush and obviously well maintained. I note that they took out the parking lot next to the clubhouse to install three pickle ball courts. We had to park at the adjoining hotel although the course validated parking. Word is the parking lot may be coming back sometime in the future. Considering we had to walk through a conference's registration (before the round) and lunch (after the round) area for ingress and egress, changing the parking layout seems a good idea.

Played last Friday morning teeing off at 6:10 am finishing in 3:50. As many have mentioned playing fast on this course requires teeing off early. The greens were in very good condition. They rolled smooth with medium/fast speed and held shots. Greens are being aerated on Monday, April 27. The fairways have mostly good coverage with some thin spots. The rough has mostly good cov... » More

Played last Friday morning teeing off at 6:10 am finishing in 3:50. As many have mentioned playing fast on this course requires teeing off early. The greens were in very good condition. They rolled smooth with medium/fast speed and held shots. Greens are being aerated on Monday, April 27. The fairways have mostly good coverage with some thin spots. The rough has mostly good coverage with some thin/bare spots. The bunkers were in good playable condition. The tee boxes had decent coverage with some mildly unlevel areas. Los Lagos has an enjoyable layout with some rolling terrain and water coming into play on several holes. The staff was friendly.

Forgot to post a review a couple weeks ago. Since there has not been a recent review I am posting it now. Los Amigos golf course tee time site today shows this message, "STARTING MONDAY, APRIL 27th, LA COUNTY SANITATION REHABILITATION PROJECT BEGINS. LIMITED PLAY MON - FRI "PLAY SAME 9 TWICE." SATURDAY/SUNDAY - REGULATION 18 HOLES." I could not find any information as to how long the project will take to complete or when the course will resume normal operation.

The greens showed very little signs of aeration a few weeks ago. The greens rolled reasonably smooth with medium speed and held shots. The fairways have mostly decent coverage with some thin/dry areas but playable. The rough is in much the same condition as the fairways and was long enough to affect shots but not to penal. The bunkers were in decent playable condition. The tee boxes were thin especially on the par 3s. Fun course on the shorter side with challenging greens. The staff was friendly.

Played in a Rancho Park Men's Club tournament this weekend and the venue of choice was the always fun Brookside #1 in Pasadena. We played under threatening skies that fortunately never broke, but it was a little cooler and windier than normal, making for an even more challenging round than usual on this tough course.

My group had a 10:50am tee time with two walkers and two riders. The carts at Brookside I noticed now have speakers built into the sides, almost like sideview mirrors on your car. We were assigned the red tees (thanks to my currently abysmal handicap), which was still a good challenge at this long course but actually was pretty fun to move up and not stress as much on every tee shot.

Greens were running really nicely and quite speedy, but the pin placements on some holes were absolutely diabolical. There's nothing worse than chipping on past a pin and then seeing it on the downhill side of a harsh slope with no chance to stop it. Everyone suffered. The ball on some greens seemed to pick up pace going uphill! It was pretty crazy, but they're in good shape and rolling nicely.

Fairways were just okay to be honest. There weren't a ton of lush areas, but everything was playably thin. I've seen it much better out there in the past so I trust they will get back to that condition soon enough. Rough was playable and accessible. I did not face any bunkers all afternoon but I watched my playing partners perform admirably and heard no complaints. Tee boxes look to have been recently worked on so they were in nice shape, maybe in some cases a tad bit shaggy but overall quite good.

We had cart service swing by twice which was great and of course the course layout is one of SoCal's best as they routinely host SCGA qualifiers here due to its quality. Never a bad time out in Pasadena at Brookside #1 ...

Walked the white tees yesterday, Sunday, 4/26. Tee off at 6:40am. $53 to walk and POP was fantastic at 4hrs, a little waiting on the first few holes, but then smooth sailing.
