My third stop was in Prescott where I could get in some golf while visiting friends. I’ve played the other two courses in Prescott so decided to play here. They have 2 courses. We chose the South course, which at 5570 yds from the reds was more doable for me than the North course at 6006.

The clubhouse was nice with a very large, and apparently quite popular) restaurant. The pro shop was surprisingly well stocked with great prices on clothing, gloves and the like. I was charged the resident rate of $41 (they never asked) and one of my friends, who was just riding along, wasn’t charged at all.

This is an older, basic, no-frills course, completely different than where I just played the previous day. There was no GPS but yardage was well marked with colored poles. It would have been helpful if there was at least a map of the holes on the card as we had to guess a little where some of the dog-legged holes were going. There were very few trees.
The fairways and rough are dormant. I think the fairways may have been painted earlier, but green grass was starting to grow and the coverage was good. The rough was only a fraction longer than the fairway and also in good shape. The greens were hard and fast. They ranged from small, relatively flat to a couple that were so large and undulating, you could get seasick trying to figure out the line! A few bunkers had some sand, but most seemed to be pebbly dirt. There were a lot of mounds and swales that really made the course a lot of fun. POP was 4 hours.

I’d definitely play here again when I’m in the area. I’d like to see it when it’s green.
