Ranch & Chambers ![]() ![]() ![]() | Monday December 7, 2020 6:55 AM 89 at Barona on Sat for my brothers birthday. Started +7 through 4 then calmed down a bit. Shot/lowlight of the round was on hole 14 which is a drivable par 4 playing 275 today up hill no wind. I smashed my drive and rolled on the green about 30 feet past the pin and above the hole. Alex says $5 he will be closer to the hole so I said sure easy money. Well he sticks is drive about 15 feet from the hole and just below it. Well for those of you who have played Barona you know the greens are wicked fast. I hit a 2 foot putt to try and keep the speed down but unfortunately my put just kept rolling and it went off the green and about 30 yards down the fairway I rob1563'd the shot and ended up making bogey. It was a fun round and it was made even better by the birthday boy winning a jackpot hand pay at the casino before the round. ![]() |

The frost delay from the morning made our 11:00 turn to 11:45 at Rancho Vista. In the past few rounds, I've been doing well in front and not so well in the back. This time it has flipped- 43/38. ![]() JVGA |

One birdie and two missed short birdie putts. 87 at Rams Hill rattled off 6 straight pars but should injury crept back into my swing and the back nine was all over the place. ![]() |

And since I could not join in with my group who were unsure to sign up at the time (newbies), we all ended up playing in the Indio area and caught the last weekend before the place got leased. So we played Eagle Falls and Shadow Hills to which I shot both in the mid 80s. We caught some good weather with Sunday being the best.Over the weekend, Saturday, I entered a small group tournament of three men group in a better ball. We all did not play well. 86 for me, adjusted, and a birdie on the last hole. (like an old diesel- it takes a while for me to warm up- lol). ![]() JVGA |

The hole pictured is #5, a 135 yd par 3. I am at the tee box, and the group in front is about halfway to the green. All morning, we were yelling to the group behind up that we cleared the green and fairway, and the group in front was doing the same. Couldn't see the flag on an approach until #13, barely. A few pars and bogeys with a double sprinkled in as I got to the golden triangle that is The Friends' final three holes. Can't tell you how often these three holes have ruined great rounds, but hit an amazing recovery shot on 16 after flaring my drive right and into the tree area. Hit a low 4i under the trees to a foot off the green, but unfortunately just missed the par putt having been about 60 feet away from the pin. On the long par 3 17th, hit that same 4i but hooked it left just safely after the lake. Chipped on nicely though and two-putt for another bogey. Then on 18, thinned my 3-hybrid and it looked like it was going to be wet, but it caught the retaining wall and bounced kindly into the fairway, but with a long second shot. Hit that same hybrid solid just right of the green near the range fence, then chipped long and two-putt for bogey again. Now I know that doesn't seem like a good finish, three bogeys and all, but I can't tell you how many times I've finished these three holes at anywhere from +8-10, so I was pretty happy with it in the end. Golf is weird like that. ![]() |

Made 4 birdies on 3, 6(drove the fringe), 12 and 15(reached in two). Biggest accomplishment for me was hitting the green on 16(par 3)--that 200 yd par 3 always eats me alive. Made a terrible swing on 7 from the tee that lead to a double and bad irons swings on 11 and 14 both long par 3's.Played Rustic today and fired a 1 over 73 under perfect scoring conditions. Birdied 1, 3, 9 and 12 and had bogeys on 2, 11, 13, 16, 17. Happy Holidays and be safe everyone. ![]() Member Since: October 1, 2003 Favorite Golfer: N/A Favorite Golf Course: N/A ![]() ![]() ![]() | Saturday December 26, 2020 6:39 PM Played my home course on the 23rd... FIRE! 5 birdies. I started on #3, and when I was even through #18, I had to finish. Have only shot par once, and never on my home course. Well, magic left. bogey-double bogey finish. Still a nice 75... and a good warm up for my next round the next day at....PEBBLE BEACH! Took advantage of an NCGA deal. Play on the 24th or 25th, get a free Spyglass round. The Pebble round was discounted already at $475... so both rounds for $475, and you don't have to stay at the resort! I booked by Spyglass round for 3 weeks, cross fingers for weather... but.. beautiful day. The first time I played here in July, I hit 5 good shots all day (literally: 2nd on 1, tee on 4, tee on 8, tee on 16, tee on 18)... en route to a 95. Would've been over 100 if I didn't putt well that day. But I've been looking forward to the day I could redeem myself, and here it came earlier than expected. My good ball striking carried over. I was even through 8. Bogeyed 5. Birdied 6. Chip in par on 8. Then went on a bogey train as my iron swing deserted me for a bit. But did drive the ball well all day. I finished par, par, double, par. Only 1 3 putt. Made a lot of putts. That caddy does make a difference... and my one 3 putt I didn't listen when he told me the uphill putt was going to be fast. I listened on 16, where the obviously 1 cup breaking putt was dead straight. And he gave me great yardages all day. So went from a 95 to a 37-44 81. Quite the redemption. I look forward to redeeming myself at Spyglass, where I hit 10 good shots all day en route to an unsatisfying 89. ![]() |
