Goal for rounds 2021: 45+
Rounds played: 49
Lifetime rounds: 400 approx

Birdies made: 11
Eagles: 0
Aces: 0

New Courses: 17(RIVco, SBerco, VenturaCo, SDco, AZ, IN)

Worst Score: 116 Camelback-Ambi
Lowest Score: 87 Desert Falls

Starting Handicap: 22.1
High Handicap: 25.4 August
Low Handicap: 21.0 Dec
Ending Handicap: 21.0

Memorable Round:
Shot personal best 87 at Desert Falls in September, it helped to hit nearly 80% FIRs.

Golf Balls: TM rbz, W/S duo, W/S zip, On Core Elixer

Clubs w/ 2021 bag time, other than my WiTB:
GBB Hawkeye 10.5'
4-GW W/S FGv4 DG Pro R300
Ginty
LW Clev RTX4 58/06
Royal 5010 putter(Wilson 8802 knockoff)

Injuries/health: Anemia(corrected), Diabetes(managed), cervical radiculopathy(this time c5-c8 for 5 weeks), weight lost(10 lbs.)

Steady playing in 2021 is continuing to lower index and average. Steady play and tinkering is not enough. I need to finally take lessons and get evaluated for club setups(fittings). Tinkering will still be a part of my mantra, and 2022 will likely be the year for stout, yet lighterweight iron shafting.
Played in some fun GK guru/event outings, and joined Perry in a cup 16 playoff with champs John/Eric. Love this game.

OK, I'll play along

Goal for rounds 2021: 46 (my avg for the last 10 years)
Rounds played: 26 (new job working from home)

Birdies made: 31
Eagles: 0 (probably the first 0 since 1975)
Aces: 0 (why break a 48 year streak?)

New Courses: 2 (Bernardo Heights CC and Morgan Run)

Worst Score: 84 CrossCreek
Lowest Score: 71 San Clemente

Starting Handicap: 4.5
Ending Handicap: 5.0

Memorable Round: Nothing really memorable.

Clubs w/ 2021 bag time, probably not enough room in this field to type. But hey, I have not changed a club in 3 months!

I was wondering when this post was going to pop up! I had a pretty decent 2021 all things considered and finally got a whole new set of irons and wedges. I am still trying to figure out the driver situation but I did get my handicap down to a career low this year so it's not all bad. So here are the 2021 stats:

Rounds played (GHIN): 92 (3 combined 9 hole rounds)

Low handicap: 11.7
High handicap: 17.2

Low round: 78 (Los Amigos)
High round: 112 (Morongo at Tukwet Canyon - Legends)

New courses played: 15

Top 10 new courses played:

10. Arizona Biltmore (Adobe)
9. Twin Oaks
8. Strawberry Farms
7. TPC Las Vegas
6. San Vicente
5. Black Butte Ranch (Big Meadow)
4. Ironwood CC (South)
3. Saticoy CC
2. Sherwood CC
1. Lakeside GC

Fascinating stuff Sparky! I've heard before that the key to lower scores isn't more birdies but rather less blowups, and this shows it. We had similar birdie per round numbers, I had 44 in 67 rounds, but my index only got down to 9.5 after starting the year at 13.4. I have my marching orders for 2022, LESS DOUBLES+.

I played around 40 or so rounds this year. I was more focused on getting/keeping my handicap down.
Goal was 52 rounds - Played 42ish
States played- CA, AZ, NV, ID, MT
New Courses- 10
Birdies- Didn't keep count but probably under 42
Eagle- 4
Starting HCP- 11.9
High HCP- 12.9
Low HCP- 9.1
Current HCP- 10.1
Injuries- Still the same torn up shoulder with 26 rehab/therapy appointments and 4 injections its starting to feel better. Also severly dislocated ankle that I played through at San V just ask Johnny I could barely walk.

Overall it was a successful year of golf and I hope to play some more this year but all depends on if i can remain injury free.

Under 42? Every time I open Instagram you're wearing a birdie chain somewhere!

I was just thinking of this looking at my hole by hole stats.

110 recorded rounds (130 posted)
7% birdies (138 birdies)
10% double bogeys. (198 double bogeys)

So the goal is now to get more birds than dubs next year. That'll be tough.

I did break par for the first time... 1 under 71 at Brookside CC.

As for my index, I started at the year 5.6, got down to a 2.4, and have climbed back up to a 5.5

so net improved .1.

And I've learned what the soft cap is.

You the man Matt. In the '90s I dislocated my right ankle playing basketball, which I played then about 5 days a week. After a month layoff, and desperately needing an outlet after work, I hit on the range about 30 days straight. It still took a good three months before I could play golf again. Those 30 days improved my iron play tremendously.

It was 11 months before i played basketball again. Over 25 years later, the bottom of my foot still twinges on occasion. It is not a slight injury!

My 2021:

Rounds Played: 17 (13 18-Hole Regulation Rounds, 2 9-Hole Rounds)

Lowest Index: 22.1 - Sept. 2021

Fairways Hit: 46%
GIR Hit: 15%

New Courses: 8 - Shandin Hills, Sierra Lakes, Goose Creek, Oak Quarry, Glen Ivy, Birch Hills, Coyote Hills, Black Gold, The Ranch at Laguna Beach

Low Round: 88 - Santa Anita - Sept. 2021
High Round: 107 - Shandin Hills - Jan. 2021

Memorable Round: First time breaking 90 since Dec. 2019 (88 @ Jurupa Hills) shooting an 88 @ Santa Anita in Sept. 2021, and Free Round on my Birthday in Aug. @ The Ranch at Laguna Beach!

New Clubs: Traded in my Cleveland Classic Black Platinum 1.5 Putter for an Odyssey White Hot Pro D.A.R.T Mini Putter back in March which only cost $30.

For this past year of 2021 in golf for me, I'm glad that I was able to break 90 for the first time since Dec. 2019 by shooting an 88 at one of my local courses, Santa Anita after shooting a 110 last time there back in Dec. 2018. My main goal is to play every course in So Cal, and usually for the past 2-4 years, every time I play alone, I always play a new course. For this year up until May, I played new courses for my monthly round with the exception of a 9-Hole round at Altadena in March which was my 2nd round for that month after playing Goose Creek earlier that month. This year, I was able to play some of the expensive and hyped-up courses in the IE and northern OC which I always wanted to play such as Goose Creek, Oak Quarry, Glen Ivy, Coyote Hills, and Black Gold. I was disappointed with Coyote Hills because I paid around $75 for the round, and I was hitting irons off the tee for more than half the holes. After August, I slowed down in playing new courses and went back to some courses I haven't played in years such as Woodley Lakes, Vista Valencia, and Rancho Park which I luckily got a tee time one Friday in November after refreshing the site non-stop that morning. I also returned to some of my local courses such as Alhambra, Altadena, Montebello, and Santa Anita after playing the past 2-4 years in new courses all over So Cal. I do wish I played more golf this past year since there were only 4 months out of the whole year where I played more than 1 round for the month, especially I should have at least snuck in one more round in the month of December, but this past month has just been so cold weather-wise.

For this new year of 2022, I want to get back to the grind of playing new courses and getting closer to reaching that goal of playing every course in So Cal. As I'm writing this, that grind has already started since on this day as we speak since I went out for my first round of 2022 by playing Arrowhead in San Bernardino and shooting a 96. After playing Arrowhead, ideally, the next courses on my list would be to play General Old, Rancho Del Sol, and Yucaipa Valley. After that, I would then want to play Oak Valley, and the Morongo courses and that would reach my goal of playing all the courses in the northern IE. I wish for this year, I could find a good deal for some of the courses I haven't played yet due to their prices such as Tustin Ranch, Oak Creek, Strawberry Farms, Arroyo Trabuco, Tijeras Creek since I've played every course in the OC north of Rancho San Joaquin, and a good deal at Moorpark since I've played every course in Ventura County except for the Ojai courses. I also have a list of some executive courses I wanna try out such as Brea Creek, David L Baker, and Cerritos Ironwood which would be great if I could finally play it this year. I hope to have some out-of-town trips this year where I can play such as to San Diego, and Palm Springs which I haven't gone to since the pandemic, and Santa Barbara where I haven't played golf yet but started taking some day trips to after the pandemic. Furthermore, I'm hoping this is the year where I can finally get some new clubs such as an upgrade for my driver, 3 wood, hybrid, and wedge, and I'm liking some of the new releases, but disappointed that Callaway didn't release an adjustable hosel fairway wood. New clubs, new courses, and rounds under 100, and more rounds breaking 90 is the ideal 2022 for me in golf!
