Call me a curmudgeon, but I can't stand this "tradition" that seems to have taken hold on the LPGA Tour where people run up to the winner and douse her with water or champagne. The last thing I want in one of the happiest moments of my life is a bunch of people splashing stuff all over me and making me feel sloppy and gross.

Kinda reminds me of the MLB shaving cream to the face during post-game interview after a heroic walk-off.

They're both just stupid.

Am I being old and crusty, or do you agree?

The goal has always been long and straight! But since I can no longer hit them long, hopefully straighter could be achieved more than occasionally?

Old and crusty. Look at world series celebrations. They wear ski goggles and spray champagne all over the place and each other. After walking in the heat for 5 hours they need to shower anyway (which is available to them right there at the clubhouse).

Not quite. World Series it's a TEAM all doing it together as a celebration, not a bunch of competitors doing it TO one person. And like you said, they're wearing goggles. LPGA players aren't. MLB players can go take a shower immediately, but I'd contend LPGA players cannot. At minimum, they need to go sign their card, and I'm sure as the winner they have media responsibilities they need to fulfill as well.

I think there's a little passive aggressiveness in it on behalf of those who go spray the winner.

When the winners start complaining I'll concede you might have a point.

Just for the record, I never said the winners don't like them. I said I don't like them.

Wait, so you're watching some people you don't know personally, and you aren't required to watch, but it bothers you enough to complain about it? This is how it starts, first it's the small few things, before long you'll have a long long list of harmless things that others do, that bothers you.
I know, sometimes I feel that grumpy old guy growing inside of me, but I'm determined to fight him off, life is too good!

Are you trying to claim you've never had an opinion on any professional sport unless you knew one of the players?
