Dry Conditions and Dormant Warm Weather Turf

This is the season when overnight lows trigger warm weather turf such a Bermuda to go dormant plus with the very dry 2020 we've had it simply does not add up to good fairway/rough/tees playing conditions. I've been noticing ratings across the board dropping significantly from last month.

Unless the golf course overseeded with mild weather turf such a rye grass its going to be turning more and more blonde color over the next two months. There are some exceptions for golf courses with all season turf (Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort in Vegas is a great example)

Also its was a difficult rye overseeding for many golf courses in Palm Springs because of much hotter than normal temperatures in October. Those golf courses that overseeded in late October/November will likely be in much better condition than those that overseeded in late September/October.

Not trying to be a downer just trying help GKers be more prepared as to what to expect if there is not a recent review or rating posted.

ON THE BRIGHT SIDE:
December and January are typically the best times of the year for fast, smooth, firm greens if that's what you enjoy (which I personally love).

Barona is a good example. Tee's and greens are lush emerald green but the fairways are brown, dry, and fast but still grass.

It's just another example of how wacky 2020 has been.
