Curious as to what opinions does this golfing community have about pricing at some places that have, in some cases, doubled? For context, I'm only looking at early AM weekend tee times. Even with remote working, I can only get out to play on weekends with the boys.
Examples:
- Oak Quarry: previously an $80-90 range for a weekend AM time, I've now seen it up to almost $170.
- Goose Creek: ~$70 that's now just a bit over $100.
- Rustic Canyon: Now $100 min to walk it.
Everywhere is pretty much up since golf is in the midst of a boom-time. I completely get it that the business side of it is to maximize on the opportunity and it's also supply vs demand. Has any of this factored into decisions on which courses you'll be playing at?

I appreciate the early struggles the course went thru with Covid, but the price increases are ridiculous. Add to that the fact the courses are more crowded than ever. I just simply will not pay these prices - period ! I have a number of gift cards from some of these courses which have jacked up their fees, and I am just holding them until things get "normal" again, if that ever happens.

All the guys I play regularly with have all commented on the value aspect. It's not like we can't afford it - it's that the value derived isn't worth the price increase.

Private golf. I went private probably 7 years ago and haven’t looked back... there are many levels of private and if you love golf, practice, and 3.5 hour rounds... private golf is for you.

Absolutely. I probably will not spend double what a particular course used to charge. I will end up looking for discount golf or find a course that offers the best bang for the buck. It sucks, but I will end up not playing a lot of golf because I have other things I can, or should, be doing.

It's ridiculously high and overpriced... I've seen Oak Quarry charging $200+ NO THANK YOU !
On another note, have any of you seen any dramatical improvements on golf courses you now pay more money to?

For some, paying $500 for a bucket list type course is worth it. But that is an occasional experience for most golfers, not a weekly event. Others would rather pass on the Bucket List course and play 20 rounds for $25 each on a mediocre course for that same $500.
Two guys have the same $300 budget to play golf this month. Is value paying $75 to play a very good course 4 weekends in a row, or $300 to play an excellent course one weekend?
I rarely if ever play certain courses anymore because I can not justify the prices they charge. If I can play a course just as good, or even better for less $$$ closeby, I go elsewhere.
The goal has always been long and straight! But since I can no longer hit them long, hopefully straighter could be achieved more than occasionally?

I went private 12 years ago. But that was when I moved to Sacramento. I don't think I would've entertained the initiation fees in SoCal if I had stayed. Part of the reason I am glad I got out of LA.... the golf here is plentiful and affordable... the private options as well.

Seems many "Palm Springs area" courses on TeeOff/GN took a noticeable jump in price from December to January. I know that's customary, but still catches me off guard when you know there's not an overnight transformation in conditions, etc.
