I will be in Carpinteria Sept 7 and 8 visiting non golfing friends and I would like to play somewhere. Is it better to go SB or back to Ventura to play? How about a course recommendation. Thanks Bob Z

My daughter lives in Carpinteria. Nothing but a driving range there.

Santa Barbara GC is probably your closest public. Okay course maybe 15 minutes North.

30 minutes North is Sandpiper.
40 minutes East are Ojai Valley Inn and Soule Park.
30 minutes South is Olivas.

OVI will cost you more but is an excellent course if you want to treat yourself. Sandpiper more still, but the reviews have been poor lately.

For the $$$, Soule and Olivas are excellent values and would be my top 2 choices Bob.

The goal has always been long and straight! But since I can no longer hit them long, hopefully straighter could be achieved more than occasionally?

I'm going to echo Nick and say that you can't beat the Soule Park-Olivas duo for value, awesome golf and beautiful settings.

Day 1 La Purisma early morning followed by Sandpiper for a 2pm tee time.

Day 2 Olivas Links morning followed by Soule Park in the afternoon.

Have fun some of my favorite places to play.

QUOTED  Day 2 Olivas Links morning followed by Soule Park in the afternoon.

Its probably best to do the other day around, playing Soule Park in the morning, and then Olivas in the afternoon especially now during the summer. It gets hot at Soule Park in Ojai since its over mountains, so a morning round would be better so it's the best way to beat the heat. Olivas would be better in the afternoon after the round at Soule Park since that area has the best coolest weather during the summer since it is always below 80 degrees most of the time. River Ridge is also in the area, and it has 2 great 18s, and also Buenaventura is there next door down the street from Olivas. I would recommend Olivas and/or River Ridge over Buenaventura if you only have time for 1 or 2. The area where River Ridge is, and the 2 Ventura courses boast the best weather during the summer since it is always below 80 degrees, and golfers from LA always make the drive over when they want to play and beat the heat in LA.
