Ouch...from OC Register

Garden Grove declares Willowick golf course ‘surplus land,’ readies for sale.

The move paves way for public development, but local neighbors remain wary

That's two down in the area with MSQ Players closing up.

Sad. As a local high school golfer, I played countless rounds at “the stick” in the early 1980’s. Carded my best round ever (to that point), getting around the course in 1-over par in 1985. Played my last round there in summer 2016. It will be missed.

I used to play there a lot in the late 80s/early 90s. Think it might've been the first place I broke 80, shooting 77. Haven't been back for probably 20+ years. Hopefully someone figures out the right way to play that crazy 16th hole before they close. ;-)

Used to caddy for my dad in my early teens in the 1960's during his Saturday morning rounds before I finally was good enough to join the foursome. Like one of the other posters broke 80 for the first time there .....

Always found Willowick to be an interesting study in "old school" design compared to the newer and more modern courses that came into being since the '70s. Usually only one real natural hazard or design feature on each hole while guys like Nicklaus or Dye were putting 15-20 design features on theirs.

Seems like Willowick over the past 30 years has always been involved in discussions to convert it to condos or some other real estate product.

I just played there today with an employee and no mention of closing down, hell they just bought new carts before the quarantine and I doubt they would do that if it was shutting down.

There has been talks about it closing for a while now; it was purchased I believe and there are plans to develop housing at some point. When that is, who knows, but its been a few years now going.

And it is very difficult to take care of the golf course, such services are also expensive. As the saw field neighbor has which field looks very nice and on how many I know he not strongly for him sits. How is this possible? I just think that it is unlikely that he himself can cope with such an area of territory, I decided to make my own golf course. I turned to https://lawn.com.au/gardeners/
for help because I don't know much about botany and I can't do anything good myself, because my hands are growing out of the wrong place. They very quickly made a good lawn out of my old unkempt field, it took them 1 month. Well, very quickly, well done.
