If a player and caddie are not enough to play a round of golf....Green Books should not be allowed in tour events....

No mystery, whether remembered or written down its simply resourced knowledge. A caddie, a book or just a course you have played often. “Phil would have never won”? Seems a bit of a stretch. How about the guy who came in 23rd with the same knowledge?

Recently watched a documentary about the 1986 Masters win by Jack Nicklaus. Jack gave a detailed, retrospective interview for the documentary. Jack explained in detail that he knew that certain putts may have broken a certain way for years, but that year, they had subtlety changed. He was explaining that the pitch of this green was 15%, the pitch of that green was 13%. Did he get this out of a green book, or was it common knowledge? How did he know this?

Because he explained that his company had been commissioned after the 1985 Masters to redo the greens before the 1986 Masters. And he knew exactly what had been done to every green in the renovation. So he not only had 25+ years of Masters experience to rely on. He also had been apart of redesigning the actual greens they were putting on. Unfair advantage?

Jack won by exactly 1 stroke in 1986. So any putt he made with this knowledge definitely affected the outcome of the 1986 Masters. The last time I checked, it officially shows him as the 1986 Masters champion for his 18th and final major title. And I have never heard a single one of his competitors complain that he had an unfair advantage.

He won it on the course.

You could give 100 competitors the same green book, and some would gain a bigger advantage than others. Some read greens better than others. But some are also just more meticulous than others. Better attention to detail. A green book isn't going to assist a guy who is too lazy to analyze it's info.

Bottom line is that Green book or no green book, you still have to get the ball in the hole in the least amount of strokes.

Phil won it on the course. Move on.

The goal has always been long and straight! But since I can no longer hit them long, hopefully straighter could be achieved more than occasionally?
