Recently re-done slightly elevated greens, square-shaped 4 tiered tees and lush rolling fairways makes this a perfect example of a Donald Ross type golf course. If you like the challenges of length (over 7,000 yds), deep well placed perfect sand bunkers and majestic evergreens lining most holes plus the beauty of many visible mountain peaks, you must play this course. It is immaculate in every way but the greens are the star! Large and exceptionally smooth, fast and true they make putting a joy because there are no surprises.

The amenities are top notch as there is a great driving, chipping and putting area as well as a well stocked pro shop and a small cafe.

Combined with a second course only 10 minutes away (Big Meadow), this a truly a wonderful golf destination.

Shorter course in NE Portland. It is an oddly laid out par 71. The front nine is par 36 with seven par 4's and only one par 5 and one par 3. Overall, there are only two par 5's, three par 3's and thirteen par 4's. Numerous par 4's that a longer hitter can drive up close to and potentially have a chip/putt for birdie. Fairly tight with alot of tall, mature trees on every hole. Fun track in that regard, many straight holes, a couple with blind tee shots over a hill. Front nine was flatter, back nine was up/down hills.

The fairways and greens were firm, making the course play short. The poa annua greens putted well, medium speed. Fairways were decent for a course that gets alot of play, a few areas had alot of divots, but not overly extreme. The traps I was in were in good shape.

Definitely NOT a destination course, it's plain and no frills, but if you are close by, worth playing.

Not a tight course, which surprised me since it is a Portland city track. Older sourse with many mature trees in NE Portland. While they only had 1 true dogleg, there wasn't a straight hole on the course, every par 4/5 bent at least some one way or the other. There weren't any holes that made you go "WOW", but there wasn't a bad hole out of the 18 either... several long par 3's and reachable par 5's, plsu a good combination of shorter, medium and longer par 4's... and nary a flat hole either, it was constantly up/down hills. Not an easy track, but one where you could score if playing well.

The greens were medium fast and undulating, I never did figure out the breaks there... several greens had severe breaks where if you were on the wrong side of the hole, count on 3 putts. The fairways were decent, the rough was very good. The traps all seemed to have nice, fluffy sand, very good. The tees were decent, especially considering the amount of play.

I'll play there again sometime...

On vacation in Oregon, and I had the chance to sneak out early one morning to play Gearhart. The course was in very nice shape, the only thing being that the greens looked as though they were punched a couple of weeks ago. They rolled a little better than they looked, but were definitely the weakest part of the conditions. Fairways, tee boxes, traps, rough were all excellent.

The layout isn't very long, but there's enough challenge as a lot of the holes are really narrow. Some of the par threes play pretty long as well. Overall, a very fun layout. If you're in this part of Oregon, it's definitely worth checking out.

I played here during 7/28 to 7/31 Bandon Trip. Bandon Trail seems to be the one that is played least amount out of the 4 courses but as far as the course condition and layout is concerned, this is the best one. Its not a links style course so most people avoid it but its truely a gem of a course. Best greens out of the 4 courses, best condition out of the 4 courses. Only drawback of the course is that there aren't ocean views next to any of the hole. I ended up playing this course twice vs. other courses only once due to significant difference in conditioning. When the winds are up, this one is the safest one to play since many of the holes are shielded by the trees. It is also the toughest walk (IMO) out of the 4 courses due to severe changes in elevation.

Old Mac is a layout of different distinction on its own. Only hole number 7 has the Ocean view and rest are inland. I like the uniqueness of the course but with the heavy wind, it was practically impossible to land the ball on the green and have it stay on. Greens look shaggy but rolls fast and its very hard to read the breaks. We struggled mightily and shot at least 10 strokes higher than our handicap. Some areas of the course has minor burn out issues here and there due to recent lack of rain but still in good shape. If you're looking for finely manicured course, stick with Bandon Trail. If you're looking to play GINORMOUS GREENS and HUGE FAIRWAYS that bounces funny off your tee shots, this is the place to be. Course needs some more maturation but as of now, its a good links style course that you can have lot of fun or suffering depending on the day's wind.

27 hole executive course where all the nines have five par 3's and four par 4's. The par 4's are short, tight to very tight and several are potentially driveable for longer hitters if you want to risk the OB right and left of EVERY hole. The par 3's are generally longer to much longer than you would expect to find on an executive course. Their yardages, from the blue tees are 142, 160, 225, 176 & 203 on the Green course, 175, 201, 204, 238 & 192 on the Yellow course and 161, 197, 206, 147 & 170 on the Red course.

The greens are very flat and putted well, a little slow, medium speed. They are very well trapped, many greens have 3+ traps. Fairways and rough were both in good to very good condition. Many mature trees that could catch any errant shots and provide some interesting approach and chip shots if you got off the mostly narrow fairways. Customer service was a ++. Fun little course, I will be back.

Bandon Dunes course is always great choice to start your golf vacation. It has little bit of all the other courses so that you can get a feel for the playing the Dunes. Tee box, fairway, and rough are in good shape. Greens are in excellent shape for seaside course and putts very true. I enjoyed this course the most and if you only have 1 round to play, definitely play this one. None of the courses have cart girl so grab a beverage before you tee off. There are vending areas after 7 holes on most courses so you can refill.

Executive course with three different 9's, Green, Yellow & Red. Each of the 9's have five par 3's and four par 4's for a par 31-31=62.

You look at a scorecard for a course that totals less than 4300 yards from the longest tee combo and you think that this is a short course... Well, there are no par 5's and only a couple of the par 4's are medium length, most are short to very short, so that much is true. However, the par 3's are NOT what you would expect on an executive course.

The yellow nine's par 3's from the blue tees are in order, 175, 201, 204, 238 and 192... the five of them AVERAGE 202 yards. I have seen FEW 6500+ yard courses that have five par 3's that AVERAGE 202 yards!

The green course's par 3's weren't quite as demanding, but still had a 225 and 203 among their five par 3's. The red course had a 206 and a 197 thrown in... my long irons and 3W got in plenty of practice today!

There were several risk/reward potentially drive able par 4's for longer hitters. The layout on almost every hole has residential homes on both sides of the hole, so OB right and left is a given. However, there was a good mixture of very tight, tight and a couple of holes that were only moderately tight... if you want wide open, this isn't your course. There were several lakes and every hole is surrounded by many mature trees. The trees are a mixed bag, they kept several of my errant shots in bounds, but they also provide a formidable defense, especially when you are under them with no vertical shot possible and still have multiple green side bunkers between you and the pin.

Overall, the layout was a plus, they did an excellent job of providing different looks and challenges.

The greens collectively were some of the flattest I have ever seen, I don't think I had a putt AD that broke over a foot and most, even 20 to 40 footers were anywhere from an edge of the cup putt to a few ball outside the edge. The speed was medium and they rolled well. It seemed like nearly every green had a trap(s) left, right and long and some had bunkers in front as well. I averaged almost 4 green side traps per 4 today, a total that was heightened because I hit a driver and a #W into green side traps on short par 4's, but still, the greens were very well bunkered, so bring you A sand game with you. The amount of the bunkers are a good counter balance to the greens not having severe slopes. The fairways were good, the rough was excellent. I certainly had plenty of sand chances, and they were almost all good.

Fun course where you can really work on all your clubs but your driver if you are a longer hitter. There were several par 4's where the landing zone 250 out was awfully narrow, (with OB left & OB right), so I used 3W and 3I on numerous par 4's. And with the length of the par 3's, I was using 4I, 3I or 3W on over half of them.

I did a repeat trip to Pacific Dunes and course condition has changed quite a bit. This is probably the most beautiful and fun layout out of the 4 courses but is in the worst condition. Greens are horrible. Its bumpy and much slower compare to the other courses. It definitely doesn't roll true. I would compare the current green condition to week after my local course aerate their greens. Its also the most windy course out of the 4 (IMO). Lucky thing there is lot of ocean view else it would have been unbearable. We had a choice of playing an extra round and this course was the last one anyone in my group wanted to play again. Honestly, it was a pretty big disappointment. Tee boxes and fairways are in good but not great shape but that's expected for ocean side dunes course. Some of the private courses in my home town would have closed down their greens if they had green condition similar to Pacific Dunes. Unless the greens improve tremendously, I would hesitate to play this course unless they gave 50% discount. Proshop staff were excellent and always accommodating.

Take advantage of their twilight rate after 3PM during Summer and do play here. I highly recommend this course. Its a challenging layout with tough greens but scenery is very nice and conditions were top notch. I was very surprised to see an immaculate condition and fun layout. Practice range and multiple practice putting greens are more than adequate to accommodate a big group. By far the best conditioned course in Bandon.

Short, tight course, 68.5/117 6043 from the blues, par 72. Played on an internet coupon from their website, $23 to walk midday.

The layout is mediocre, the front 9 zigs and zags in and out of condo's, the back nine does the same with single family homes. Most of the holes are tight and straight. Almost every hole had OB left, if anything, the slope is probably a little low because there is hardly a hole on the entire course where trouble isn't just off the fairway or green.

While I would mark the course down for the layout, the conditions were excellent.

The average sized to smallish greens were smooth, putted medium fast and held approach shots OK. MUCH better than you would expect for a course that gets alot of play located in the city. Very few ballmarks.

Both the fairways and rough were generally lush, I only had a couple of bad lies AD. The aprons around the greens are mowed down, you can putt or bump and run from well off the green if you choose. This is sometimes required because of all the mature trees that are around many greens and the branches you have to go under if you are more than a few yards left, tight or long on most holes. The sand traps were just OK and were not up to the rest of the course.

Not a course I would drive past other courses to go play, so-so layout, but the conditions, (especially the greens) would warrant playing if you are close by.
