Great course after it grows in a bit more. Greens are still a bit sandy and will not hold anything. Speed is great, but it would be nice to shoot for some pins and not have to roll everything on. Environmental areas come into play alot, and if you can hit a straight tee shot, leave the driver in the bag. What's with the brown spots already? As this course matures, it will be awesome. Great layout, and challanging for everyone with the multiple tee boxes for different levels of play. A bit dissapointed with the pace! Rather pricey and tee times 10 minutes apart should have kept pace smooth, but we had to wait multiple times! Our tee time was 10:30am Friday. I would and will play it again. I look forward to knowing the layout and being able to fire at the pins.

Played on Sat. the 3rd and Sunday the 4th. First off, the course is in great shape, as it should be for just openning. The course is as advertised, desert style, target golf. Keep the driver in the bag most of the day. if the wind kicks up, look out, it will make this an even bigger challenge. The greens are where your score is going to balloon the most. It's all about position. Huge undulations on the greens. You've got to play the course a few times before you know where to position the ball, at the moment there are no yardage books and the GPS does not give the undulations of the greens. So far, the pace of play is slow, but that is probably due to the lack of knowledge and people looking for their golf balls. Should get better as the course matures.

I played Angeles National on Monday, July 5 for the first time. I had waited a long time for this course to finally open. While I thought that the courese was a fair challenge of my golfing skills, I was a little disappointed. Here are some of the things that need improvement.

1. Not being able to look for or retrieve an errant golf ball that lands in an "environmentally sensitive" area, even though the ball is in plain view is just not acceptable. I understand that the owner/developer had to make several compromises with the environmentalists in order to build the golf course, but this "rule" is going too far.

2. What's with the brown spots on the fairways? This course should be in top shape, and we have not had the really hot weather yet.

3. I understand the effort to have fast greens, but there has to be a compromise. Having shots that land on the front of the green run off the back is not fun.

4. They need to check the watering schedule for the bunkers. Hitting dirt or compacted sand on every bunker shot is not what I expect on an upscale course, and especially on a course that just opened.

5. While the staff was generally great, the ladies who operate the beverage carts need to be instructed so that they are not coming up behind groups when someone is teeing off.

On the positive side, I thought that the pace of play was great. I hardly had to wait on a shot the entire round. Perhaps this track just needs to mature.

At last! Wow. Go--now! Played blue on the front, tips on the back. From the immaculate tee box that trumps a municipal green any day of the week, no tree lines to aid alignment, but generous fairways can get most off to a good start. Beware the fairway bunkers, they exist. If in the rough, your ball can go anywhere, so luck and strength are big. Luck because there is all sorts of trouble (seen and unseen) in front of the greens. The greens are hard! Think Shinnecock but for the public. Your ball, if you spin it, will release. Low game is big. Greens roll like Robinson ranch, if not faster, then definitely smoother. The best track you can play in "L.A." Please take care.

Did we all play out there today? Wow!!! What a golf course! Angeles National Golf Club was worth the wait. Greens were soooo sweet. Like a pool table. Course design is fun and fair. Fairways are forgiving and I like that! I’m so sick of the new tricked up courses. Although the Par 5’s play too easy. I guess from the blacks that would change. They should come up with a hybrid tee selection that combines half the blues with half the blacks. Now is as good of a time if any! Love this course. Get out and play it!

Played today on Opening Day. The course is in fantastic shape. Greens are rolling fast, sweet and pure. No ball marks whatsoever, of course, cuz it's new! Played the blue tees, but next time would like to play the back. Without any wind, this course is defenseless and a little short. Greens are very large, chipping areas around the greens present a decent chance to get up and down, not punishing like a Pete Dye design where you miss a green by 2 feet and your ball rolls 30 yards into a bunker or down into a swale. Fairways are more generous than they appear off the tee, but there are a few holes where they are a little on the tight side. From the blue, all the par 5's are reachable in 2 and some only play 480 yards. This course plays very similar to Landmark CC out in Indio, and Desert Dunes out in Desert Hot Springs. Now people in LA County won't have to go to the Palm Springs/Palm Desert to play a "desert course". I liked the course very much, thought the conditions were outstanding, and it is very playable for all handicaps. All grass range and large practice putting green. Played in 4 hours, so the pace was good. Overall, a fair and honest test, w/o the wind. With the wind, bring a lot of balls or else..
