Played 8/10. Wow, what happened to this place? Horrible course conditions all around. Fairways don't even look like fairways, just a little bit greener version of the rough, and being in the fairway is a 50% chance of a good lie. Greens are struggling to maintain grass, inconsistent and slow for SCGA.

This used to be an easy recommendation for out of towners. Not anymore. This is definitely the worst course conditions I've seen in SoCal in quite some time. Huge disappointment.

played this morning at 6:40 as a threesome. We showed up early and a twosome was supposed to go out before us, and we were going to go after them. A single showed up and, the starter, instead of putting him with the twosome in front of us, put him with us making our group a foursome. This makes NO sense, especially since there were many twosomes and threesomes behind us. Why make us a foursome when we are only going to slow up the groups behind us? Why not make the group in front of us a threesome? The answer is because the starter was friends with the group in front of us and asked them if they wanted to play alone. Of course they said yes. Why don't WE get the same courtesy. As it turns out, the single we got stuck with was a really nice guy and a decent player, who played at a good pace.

The course was WAY too wet. One of my partners, as an assistant greenskeeper at a prestigious private course, was shocked at how over-watered the greens were. He said they were really unhealthy. On the first few holes, our footprints on the greens looked to be an inch deep (I only weight 180 lbs.) Everything was over-watered according to my greenskeeper friend. From my perspective, it was definitely worth the money and the course played a lot more friendly as we were able to hold more greens as a result of the moisture on the greens. I hit a 5 iron approach into 17 (we played from the tips) and the ball plugged on the green. The ball didn't move from it's original ballmark. I've never done that with a long iron to an uphill green. WAY TOO WET GUYS!

Took my car to the dealer in Temecula this afternoon (Thursday) and I was teetering between playing Cross Creek for $25 at 330pm (golfnow) or SCGA for $35 at 230pm (member rate). I chose SCGA since I hadn't played it. Made it through 9 holes, and quit. I was underwhelmed, and it was playing pretty slow for a Thursday afternoon.

I was really surprised that I was underwhelmed by this course. While I don't want to be accused of criticizing an RTJ Sr. course, the course isn't terribly exciting. I mean, the course is ok, plenty of bunkers (which are VERY inconsistent) some RTJ hazards, but nothing will knock your socks off.
Also, there really isn't anything to look at around the course other than distant mountains and SoCal track houses with no yards to speak of. It's a typical housing development golf course -- fairly well conditioned.
There were obvious signs of lack of attention to detail that happens when you don't have the labor that it appears they've had. Finishing, edging, deep raking were inconsistent. Speaking of raking...does anyone know if some of the traps are supposed to be dirt? I mean on one side of the 5th(?) green, I hit out of D.I.R.T., literally, and was mumbling about having to rake really cheap dirt with a really cheap rake. The other trap had sand, at least.
Lots of unfilled divots from several days. My pet peeve is clearly seeing where the previous few days' tee positions were by the ugly, unfilled scars. Someone just moves the tees, and IGNORES the scars on the box. (cmon rangers, the LEAST you can do if you can't speed up play is fill the divots on the tee boxes. It takes, what, 3 minutes to fix up a tee box with a bottle of sand?)
Anyway, I suppose for $35, it's worth a visit if you're in the area. I certainly wouldn't pay more for this than Cross Creek, which in most cases won't happen.

Greens are in great shape, fairways and rough very nice. Tee boxes were a bit rough with heavy divots, bunkers were wet, but thats due to keeping the course wet during this hot time of year. Carts had NO sand in bottles, we fight slow play with sand repairing divots in the fairways, the sand buckets on the tees had no scoops, what did they think ? we were going to grab a handfull? This is dumb, most folks would and do repair divots, The marshal seems to drive around, maybe he should be doing something? We have heard rumors re the SCGA up for sale. We know that they are not as busy due to housing slump. We can tell they do NOT have the same # of on course employees. Staff still there are friendly and professional. We love this track, we have always supported it by driving looooong ways to play. BUT,, they are not going to get too much of our AFTER play business with the prices they are now charging. We used to stay and do lunch and a couple of beers, but they are presently we assume, trying to gain revenue with high food and drink prices. The eating area was empty. It could be interesting how this sale works out. understand East Valley is having membership problems already and Eagle Glen seems to be heading in the same direction. Too bad as these are some of our favorites. One would think with $4 + gas these places would do ANYTHING to get NEW business. The senior rate is terrific at SCGA, and as everyone knows seniors are the revenue besides tournys during the work week. We will continue to support SCGA untill they drive us away. There are a lot of choices in the Temecula area.

Course is up and down, Very good condition right now as they just had Senior Open Qualifiers a couple weeks ago.

The nines are now reversed so that you start off with a par 3. The course is in excellent shape. The greens are sneaky fast and break more than you think. If there was a tunnel through the mountains from Orange County which connected to the 15 I would play here a lot.

I wish I lived closer to this course, because its one of the best conditioned and best layouts we have in southern california.

I played friday, 6/13. Everything is in top notch condition - greens running medium fast and smooth, fairways perfect, and rough about 2 inches with great borders from fairways to rough. The bunkers were mostly consistent with maybe a few being slightly wet and hard. The driving range grass area was in very nice condition. It was about a 4 1/2 hour round teeing off at about 8:30 which is a little later than normal for me, so it was fine.

If there are any deficiencies in your game, this course will bring them out. You've got to have all the shots to play well here. Oh, and green fees are a bargain here too, especially for scga members.

First time at this course, and I loved it!! Every aspect of the course, from quality of fairways and greens, to challenge, to requirements on the golfer to hit different kinds of shots, this was an absolutely enjoyable time. Except, of course, having to deal with the devishly fast greens. And yeah, it is kind of weird starting the round with a short par 3, but heck, that's a minor detail. Will definitely be back!!
