Played here 8/14 at the "special group rate" of $130. Others have compared this course to a muni, but I think that does a disservice to most munis. The tee boxes are rounded with many bare spots. Fairways are either bone-dry and patchy/bald, or wet and bald. Greens and bunkers were pretty good. The layout is reminiscent of Sycuan/Singing Hills, and you can play there for under $50. There is no way La Costa is worth anywhere near this fee. Save up a few more dollars and head to Aviara.

Was disappointed with the customer service. As with the KSL resort in La Quinta, the staff seemed to be going through the motions. (The resort rooms were excellent.) The course must rely on publicity for the Match Play Championships or its spa as a lure because some aspects of the course are comparable only to my local muni course. The course seems to have a drainage problem because the rough and fairways were spongy and thin. The greens were fine, but not worth the rate charged. However, the sand was good and the bunkering was tour caliber. Many of the holes on the front nine had homes to the left and right. The course gets more interesting in the back nine, where it gets more open. I assume this is the nine used for the tour event. I preferred the North Course in terms of design. Overall, not worth the fee unless you are part of a golf package. Next time, I'll try Aviara when in Carlsbad.

The South course just underwent an extensive cart path renovation. The last time I was playing there were 50+ workers moving the cartpaths. They are now out of the way of play, hit it down the center of the fairways and you wont see them. This time of year the little valley that La Costa is in will hold some moisture, so some of the fairways will not give the normal roll. The greens were good, not great yet! The speed just was not there yet, and the ruff is getting past 3 inches and moving up to 5+ for the tournament. The bunkers are deep but they are the best I have played this year, sand is there but not too much so ball plugs, not beach sand but not mud either; just right. We played 18 on the South and then headed for the front 9 of the North. I love the North course, It just fits my game? North course was in great shape on the front, did not make the back, only 27 played this day. Thank You Phil, you are a good friend and an amazing person!!!!!!

Truly a disappointing round of golf. The course reminded me of a lower-end public links, the tee boxes were in terrible shape, and the greens looked like they had been beat with the ugly stick. Coupled with a terribly slow pace of play, the only redeeming aspect of this day was that the beverage cart was frequently making rounds. Pass, Pass, Pass.

Thank you Phil!!!!!!!! I have been fortunate to have a friend that is a member. We got to play the tournament course, 1,2,3,14... of the north course and then got to play the south for the back nine. The south course is under some HEAVY CONSTRUCTION right now. Totally moving the cart paths out of the way and redoing them. The greens were great on the south course, North course the greens had some holes and a bit of sand from aeriation. I have had the chance to play both courses , 36 holes in one day but never the chopped up tournament course. I used to think the pro's had it easy but those 18 holes are long and difficult with tons of ruff and fast hard greens. This course by end of summer is going to be even better.
