Joined a Sunday game with the group out here to play the Royal/Indian nines. $40 to get on with a cart. First off, the conditions of the course is very good. The greens are a pleasure to putt on, the fairways are nice and lush. Not much rough. The bunkers looked alright. I'm so so glad the condition was good. This course is tight with some greens small or wide but short in depth. The design goes through an old neighborhood but I'm not a fan of it so much. It was still a golf round and it was an enjoyable day with the guys. The pace of play wasn't bad, we finished just over 4 hours.

1st time playing here. First group off @ 632, played the blacks (6430/70.9/125) on the Mountain/Royal combo (par 71) on a Golf Now deal for $45 w cart. The weather was perfect, low 70's with almost no wind. The greens putted NICE! Medium speed, very smooth & firm. Not a huge amount of slope, most of the breaks were relatively gentle. The fairways were semi lush, occasionally a thin lie but mostly good. The rough was semi lush, the ball had a tendency to settle down in the early a.m. dew. The traps were at best average with more well raked thick dirt than sand in them. The customer service was excellent from the cart person to the pro shop. While the course was in good condition, I was VERY unimpressed with the layout. Hole after hole that was tight, straight away with OB & homes down both sides. This is a slightly better version of Cathedral Canyon C.C., a very traditional desert layout that is tight with medium sized homes that back up close to every hole. The distance between #3 Royal green & #4 Royal tee was extreme, probably 1/3 of a mile. You had to cross residential streets and go through housing tracks to reach the next hole. This course in my opinion is not worth $45, I will spend my $$$ elsewhere in the future.

Played Mountain then Indian, just before reseed 10/7/2014. Tee boxes a bit beat up but greens were excellent, sand good and fairways pretty good. Ice water every two holes or so. Very appreciated. Almost hole in one on "Indian" Black tee, 2nd hole, par 3. Very enjoyable "old school" course.

I got froggy and decided to play a second 18 on Thursday afternoon, teeing off at about 4pm. I had played this course about twenty years ago, when they called the nines the Red, White, and Blue nines. They changed the names to Indian, Mountain, and Royal, (I played The Indian to Royal Course). Otherwise, everything is the same as I remember it . The short holes are pretty narrow, the longer holes are a little more generous off the tee. Course conditions were fine, though understandably dry and crispy. The greens were recently out of aerification, but putted pretty well. This is one of those layouts popular with people who are short and straight or enjoy hitting many different clubs from the tee. Straight is more important than long, for sure. I wouldn't make a special trip to Palm Springs to play here, but its a fine option for a second round of the day.

Sixpez basically said it all in his review. I often rate course conditions based on how much thought has to go into playing shots due to the conditions. Even though Indian Palms is dried out right now, I don't recall ever thinking that I would have had a better lie had the course been greener. Greens were crusty but extremely smooth with a pretty severe grain. This course is in Indio, but the old adage "everything breaks toward Indio" is still in play, meaning that flat putts tended to roll out when headed east and were a bit slower the opposite direction. Bring your straight ball, because this course puts a premium on keeping the ball in play with OB on both sides of most holes. Fun course, especially if it's a quick round at a good price.

Itslikeimsayin and I played here Friday afternoon on the way out to AZ. We booked a 1:28 time through golf18network.com, which we've never used before. For whatever reason, they had rates on that site for $20 in the afternoon when other sites (including the course's) were $50 or more, so it pays to be diligent I guess. There was hardly anyone out there, so we enjoyed a nice quick round at our own pace, never running into any other players on the course. We played the Indian/Mountain nines as the Royal was closed for overseeding.

The course is in good playable shape. Obviously fairly dried out this time of year and some thin areas, but mostly good lies in fairways and rough very short, so easy to hit from. I wasn't in a bunker, but some I checked out looked pretty terrible and others I noticed looked decent. The highlight was definitely the greens. Though the surfaces were pretty dry/crusty on top and didn't look that pretty visually, they rolled very, very smooth and true and were fairly receptive, as well.

Though not the most exciting option you'll find in the valley, it was an enjoyable experience and well worth the $20 we paid. For $50, I wouldn't have felt as good about it, though, so make sure you get a good deal if you play out there this time of year.

We got a good deal and thought we gave it a shot. Customer service was great. Majority of the tee boxes were leveled. Fairways were good with just a few little brown spots here and there. ROUGHS, however, were another story. They were about 3-5" long and we were not able to find our ball once you're in them. Most of time, we spent our time looking and searching for our balls while in the rough area. This is Indian course. It was frustrating to say the least

Mountain Course were a bit more manicured and roughs weren't as tough as Indian Course. Don't get me wrong, both layouts were very decent

Greens were a bit slower on Indian Course than on Mountain Course. Still debatable on the return trip tho

Played the Mountain-Indian 9’s Friday – 2/24 with Shebylo & Shazza. This was my first time playing Indian Palms and given its peak rack rate during season is only $69 I did not have high expectations. Fortunately I was very pleased with what I found. The clubhouse was adequate (small but had all the essentials well covered), the service was excellent (would have been better with a drinks cart on course) and the Practice Facilities good (grass range, chipping and practice putting).

I wish I would have gotten to experience the Royal 9 too but I did like the Mountain & Indian 9’s. In general it’s a tight-flat course, with many mature trees, greenside water features and homes adjacent left and right. The Mountain 9 was shorter than the Indian 9 but featured many small interesting water hazards and required precision iron play. It’s NOT a hilly design but rather very flat and appears to get its Mountain name given the many views of the distant mountains from the course. I felt the Mountain 9 was in good shape if you don’t hold slower than expected greens against it. I was told the Mountain 9 was the last to be overseeded and because of much cooler temperatures than expected, they had to apply a second layer of rye seed to the greens. This produced a very smooth service but now that the temperatures are warming more and more, that extra rye seed is really popping creating a denser, slower roll. They looked beautiful, held their line but were very firm. The fairways were lush with some thin spots. Got a feeling the fairways will continue to get lusher although with increased temperatures. In general I did not have perfect desert lies I’ve come to expect from Palm Springs courses this time of year, but the lies were certainly good. The rough was lush despite the many trees throughout the course. On average the rough was 3 inches. The tee boxes were level, lush but with some divot damage. The Mountain 9 had more divot damage due to its shorter distance. The sand traps had good quality sand with a fine consistency and varying depths. Perhaps what I liked most about the course was it had a relaxing feel to it with many trees to shade your experience and an excellent pace of play despite a full tee sheet. We finished in just 4 hour teeing off at 12:30pm. If you wanted to walk it, it would have been an easy stroll which is rare to find in the desert.

Overall its a golf experience not hard on the wallet or time that I’m sure many enjoy…me included. Recommended.

Friday Feb 24, four of us had the pleasure of Indian Palms hospitality teeing off at 1220 on Mountain/Indian course. Shazza, Johnny GK, and Brian Garlington (D.O.G.) made our way around the tight layout in just over 4 hours. Kind marshals kept the pace brisk, and well disciplined golfers maintained good play. This is a very active club; many locals attending the frequent events. Nice staff throughout -eager and friendly. Clubhouse is fine, with good F&B. No drinks cart on a busy course today (?) but lots of water stations most holes. Good prac-fac all grass two sided, removed from the clubhouse. The Mountain layout was the last to re-seed and the greens looked still fresh and new; consequently slow but smooth, holding moderately. Sand was inconsistent around the greens with varying depths. Rough tee to green was good- lush, green and a sensible length, unless you are way off the fairway, then 3-5 inches. Fairways were firm enough and encouraged some run, thinning in spots, so lies were also inconsistent, but easy to pick the ball cleanly. Tees were looking a bit tired from a lot of play and some holes did not have a lot of room for tee boxes. The layout takes you through a lot of homes. Holes were tight with tree linings or house boundaries. The Indian nine was much more engaging and interesting; clearly in better shape all around. Greens quicker, sand a little better, and the layout more of a challenge. I found the course to be in good shape all around, and nice golfers made the day. Worth a look with a deal.
