I was visiting the in-laws in Maricopa and made the short drive to Casa Grande to play Francisco Grande. Rate was $34 plus a little extra for range balls. The course and resort has a lot of history but the surrounding area is nothing to get excited about.
The grass on the driving range was great but you are hitting into dirt range with ample targets.
The course is long for sure with lots of tall trees throughout. It’s a fun mix of holes through the rounds.
The fairways were in mostly good shape but on the dry side. Some landing areas were hard as a rock. The greens were in great shape save for a few with bare and/or damaged areas. They were firm and that needed to be taken into account. Bunkers were in decent shape but on the crusty side.
I enjoyed playing but not sure it’s a destination course. For the price and conditions you can’t beat Francisco Grande in its current conditions.

This is in Casa Grande. A small city between Tucson and Phoenix. It was built along with a small resort for the S.F. Giants when they used to train here. Willy Mays enjoyed the course (?). It is a pretty flat course with alot of forgiveness. Green with mature trees being the main challenge. Boasts a Nick Faldo youth camp.1 over water par 3 the other lake has been drained. Another course in the Arizona desert that goes on the why is there a course here list. I do love those though. Not great not awful. worth the 22.00 plus lunch deal if your in the area. I'll post some photos.

The back nine is hilly and has water with some severe dog legs. greens were nice and dry...this place will only get better with the seasons change coming up. Cart girl was out there too. At the time I only paid $10 with a cart!!

Nice pratice facility, a small bucket was over 60 balls. This coures was in resonable shape but the rough was thin and so were the greens in a few spots. Nothing really remarkable about this course so... Continue »
