Ok, so pretty much same as last time. Everything is getting close to really nice shape, except the $%^&#*$ CARTS!

We started out and got through the front nine before the low battery light came on. We called for a new one that arrived in the fairway on 11. The new cart died on 14. We called, and no one ever came. 2 of us walked in from there. Granted, the starter told us that new carts (with upgraded GPS, too!) are coming in 3 weeks or so, but man, they should have done a little better keeping track of which carts were holding a charge. Once I can understand, it happens. But 2 carts?

Anyway, Darkhorse is great. It kicks my butt everytime.

Yep, Darkhorse is getting into fine shape. The greens were zippy and relatively smooth, though pretty spiked up by the time we got around in the afternoon. Fairways are pretty good, though I wasn't in very many of them today. Sand was pretty good, considering all the rain lately, and the rough was thick, but recently cut down, which was good... it was still really tough to get out of.

A word of caution on the tee boxes... check the card for the recommended tee based on your handicap. I'd been playing the Blue tees and decided to try the Copper yesterday. The difference is only a couple hundred yards, but sheesh, it's a whole different and much more difficult course. You'll have way more fun if you don't go too far back.

Course was overall in great condition. Played a few days after severe rain. Course handled the wet conditions well. Will definately be back to play again.

Ok, finally Darkhorse is on the way back. The fairways are getting close, the tees aren't bad, the rough is fine, sand is ok. However, here we are almost a month after aeration and STILL the greens show clear signs of the holes and are lumpy lumpy to putt on. Shouldn't they be back up to par by now?

Anyway, besides that, a fun round. Still the coolest layout around.

Tees are beat up, the fairways aren't that great, 12 is still a mess, sand is heavy and packed. As usual everyone is very nice, but conditions just aren't up to snuff for this great of a layout.

I think DH should think about lowering rates while they get things in order. It's right on the borderline of not worth the green fee... for twilight golf. I'd never pay the full rate... just not worth it.

8/18/05 Heat has takin its toll on the whole course, the Rye grass fairways in that climate doesnt hold up well and the prior week of 100+ temps has burnt most of it, leaving many many bare spots. Drive down the middle and hit second shots from dirt was dissapointing to say the least and not worth the money we spent , New housing construction within the confines of the course added to a dissapointing round.......It is going to need months, maybe years to recover........ On the plus side , people were friendly,some great holes (view wise), nice practice area

Ok, so I still love this course... however, conditions are a little sketchy right now.

It actually looks like they had some irrigation issues or something. A bunch of the fairways were very burned out, 12 being the worst. A few of the tee boxes were the same... 16, was probalby the worst. The greens were still good and fast, but there sure are a lot of ball marks. They're all fixed, just a lot of marks left over. Maybe we need a "how to fix a ball mark" class. Sand was generally pretty wet and hard, but I guess that could be due to the focus on trying to get the fairways and tees back.

I've only been playing this course for 9 months, so I'm not sure what the yearly cycle is for Darkhorse, maybe this is something they go through in August every year... I hope not, as this is way too great of a course to be in this kind of shape ever.

It's still worth playing, but I'm not sure I'd want to pay full price for it... maybe they've lowered rates due to the conditions, I'm not sure because I get tee times online.
