Played the blues (6018/68.8/122) in slightly more than 5H on a Golf Now deal for $30 that included a cart. Today made me remember REAL quickly why I usually avoid weekend and holiday golf. The POP was brutal! The greens putt nice. They were smooth, VERY firm and many greens have moderate to VERY severe slopes/breaks. However, they were medium slow today and looked like they plain need more WATER. The greens are definitely the best and most challenging part of the course. 7/10 The fairways and rough were decent, a little dry but good overall. Many areas looked like they needed a good watering. 6/10 The tees were fair, they could use some work. 5/10 The sand traps were fair, they had very fine sand but were mediocre overall. 5/10 The layout is decent, there are numerous fun holes. Their signature hole is #12, a 184 yard severely downhill par 3 where the green is 186 feet lower than the tee. After previously going over into the red hazard when I played it 2 clubs short, today I hit wedge almost pin high. I normally hit my wedge 130-135 to show you how downhill this is. A negative is that for this hole only, you tee off on mats. I presume because the tees are in a heavily wooded area, that they could not keep grass growing there? #15 is the hardest 512 yard par 5 I have ever played. Tee shot coming out of a narrow opening with OB left, thick trees right and a yellow hazard running across the fairway 200+ yards out from the blue tees. After the tee shot, the hole doglegs 90 degrees left & plays severely uphill for the final 250 yards with OB left and big trees all around. The green has so much slope from back to front that you can have side hill putts with 20' of break, and it can be almost impossible to keep a ball on the green from above the hole. I have played this hole three times and went 7-8-7 on it? The greens (along with many tall trees) are definitely the main defense of this course, Some of the short par 4's and short par 5's look like birdie holes on the scorecard and from the approach shot... until you get up to and see the green. Holes 2,4,6,11,12,15,16 & 17 in particular have very sloping greens from back to front or from side to side that can produce some downhill putts impossible to stop near the hole unless you make it. There also have a couple of greens that are among the smallest greens I have ever played on a regulation course. They have a very nice clubhouse and a restaurant onsite that I did not try. The snack cart came by twice, but there are only a few water stations on the course. Carts are older, no GPS, which would be beneficial here, because the course is NOT well marked for yardages. They have cement stones in the center of the fairways @ 100/150/200 that have not been repainted in awhile and are often hard to see from even 20 yards away. Fun little course about 45 minutes SE of Portland, but not one you would pass by other courses or drive very far to come play.
