I was a little hesitant to play after reading the prior review but must say it is patently false. Is this a pristine course? No. But it was nothing like the previous reviewer reported.

The tees were mostly level with good coverage. Par 3 tees had been shuffled around to keep good grass available.

The fairways had good coverage. They were thin in spots and outside of some small isolated areas were wonderful to hit off of.

The rough was thick in spots, the locals warned us they hadn’t been trimmed in a while and would be tough.

The greens were borderline excellent. A pleasure to putt on, rolling true and medium/fast consistently throughout the round.

The customer service was good as the pro shop and restaurant staff were great.

Will definitely be playing here more even if it’s just for the greens.

I’m going to try and be as nice as possible with this review. In short this is the worst course I have ever played. To attach the words country club is absolutely false advertisement. I rode the blues, POP 4 hours for my work tournament. We are always the first group so this is misleading as we caught a foursome that started an hour before us. I will start with the positive, the greens are very good. A touch slower than sterling and they rolled true. The rest of the course is terrible. Uneven tee boxes, the fairways were straight dirt. The traps and you shouldn’t call them that were dirt pits with no sand. When I say no sand I’m talking drives hit into them just rolled out. I pay $7 to play Vista Valencia and I wouldn’t pay close to that for Montebello. I’ve never said this in a review, but don’t play this course. We ate in the restaurant after and the service was fantastic and so was the burger. So maybe go to the restaurant and putt on the putting green.

Played early this AM prior to tournament. The greens after aeration have come back very nice. They punched on the 9th. No issues. Fairways still have good coverage and seemed better after several days of cool weather. No changes made on the bunkers, so past statements still apply. The rough had been cut down to manageable level. Tee boxes were all good and playable. Excellent customer service as usual.

Played today. They did the greens a week ago today and they came back very nice. Still some fine sand that will slow putts down, but no holes. So now they say they will verticut tomorrow. So it might ... Continue »

Played today. They did the greens a week ago today and they came back very nice. Still some fine sand that will slow putts down, but no holes. So now they say they will verticut tomorrow. So it might be another week for total healing I guess. Fairways are beginning to show brown areas, I guess the dog days of summer took their toll. You can find some good lies but you will also find a brown area, no way around it. But they are rolling out very good. Lots of rough outside of fairways and around the greens, compared to my last time here. Always great customer service in AM. Not sure about PM as I don't play then.

Played this AM in 2.5 H. Course is holding its own during this heat spell. Greens are in great shape at the moment, but they are punching Sept 9 (hope they come back like they are now?) Fairways have good coverage and lies, though there are some areas browned out and they have decent roll. Semi long rough on the outside of the fairways and around the greens. You can read my previous comments on the bunkers, as there are no changes. Great customer service this morning, as always from Mr E.

More rough outside of fairways than last play and it is thick. Tee boxes were all clean and playable. Fairways were all playable with no issues. Greens are still in great shape? Chipped/putted just fine. Great customer service as always.

Early out, early finish. Course is holding its own. The greens are in very nice shape at present. Fairways are green but with some brown areas (they are bermuda) but overall lies and roll out, are very good. Lots of rough around the greens which is sticky and tough to play out of (actually found two balls that someone had lost?). As I have said many times, stay out of the bunkers. This is the one big negative to this course? Put some sand in PLEASE and make the course even more enjoyable. No tee box issues. Customer service here, is some of the best in LA county.

Out early done early. Course is in good condition, despite all the heat. Found the greens to be the best (IMO) I have seen in a very long time. Fairways still have good coverage, good roll out/lies, but there are some thin spots in a few places. Nothing new on the bunkers. Maybe they should just remove them and make it a links course? Very little rough and what is there, is playable. No tee box issues. Course was clean and not overly watered, like many these days, so that added to the playing conditions. Customer service was excellent by all staff, who worked this morning.

Twilight action at Montebello and the course did not disappoint for $32 to ride from the blue tees. Met up with two friends there on a beautiful, warm Friday afternoon after braving the infuriating traffic on the 60 for far too long and arriving just before the late tee time. Greens are definitely the highlight of the course. Holding shots well, really nice coverage, rolling medium fast and true. No major tiers or difficult slopes to navigate here, and even when you see a break, it's probably not as severe as you may think. But they're very fun to play. Fairways had some nice coverage in a lot of areas (especially on the back nine), but there are still plenty of thin or burned out areas to avoid, especially on the fairways fringes. Rough can be pretty thick in some spots with patches big enough to hide your ball away, but other sections are not as bad. Tee boxes were a mix of good and very shaggy and poor, while the bunkers were all very poor. They just can't seem to get the bunkers in order here. Like ever. And that's a shame. You're basically chipping out of every bunker. There's no sand to take. No cart service all day which was a bummer, but maybe we started too late and it's only for the weekends. Either way, the course layout is actually quite fun and you'll likely use most of the clubs in your bag. The 18th is a quality closing hole as well, but there are a lot of fun holes here despite the overall conditions not being all that great. I would definitely go back to Montebello if the opportunity came up again soon. The track just agrees with my game and, with the exception of those pesky bunkers, never leave without having a good feeling.
