Out of work early today for a meeting that got cancelled, so I decided to hit up Victoria due to its proximity to my location. The starter was kind enough to give me the twilight $27 rate with cart a bit early, so that was great.

I was hoping that the fairways would have improved a bit since last visit, but that was not the case. If anything, they were a bit worse, as was the rough, the dirt, the weeds, the GUR, the vermin holes, and just about everything else associated with any parcel of land between the tee boxes and the greens.

Speaking of the tee boxes, they're generally terrific. Amazing that they can make those look so good but not the rest of the course. The greens were also in very good shape, but far too many people stop caring at Victoria and don't fix enough ball marks. If they did, the greens would be in tremendous shape. Hold shots, roll true.

Bunkers were a mixed bag but mostly a decent bit of coverage that was enough to get out with minimal difficulty, but of course they could be better.

No service out on the course of course, and poorly maintained ball washers and no range to speak of still. Starter said earliest by July the new range would be up and running.

POP was great playing solo and then joining a threesome on 14 until the finish. All told it took about 3 hours so that was great. We joked on the 18th tee box about how spectacular Victoria could be if only those areas in constant trouble would get fixed. It's such a very good layout and the green complexes are fantastic.

Once again, if you get a deal and have your expectations tempered, go enjoy a fairly chill round knowing it's not premium. And never, ever pay rack rate until those fairways at minimum cover the entire course. Doesn't even have to be super green.
