I played here yesterday morning. I've been trying to reach out to private courses in the desert to see about playing during the summer months and Desert Horizons was the first one to open their gates to the Golf Nomad—with open arms, I might add. They set me up with a 7:00 tee time and I literally had the place all to myself. They had a small tournament group starting at 9:00, so I was the only one out there that early. I zipped around easily and was driving away as those tournament guys were still loading up their carts! The course was in good overall condition. They did let me know ahead of time that they are redoing their whole practice area, so it's a bit ugly next to the clubhouse right now. The course itself, though, was very well conditioned. Fairways lush and I always had great lies. Rough starting to brown out a little bit. Shaved down and not much of a factor. Bunkers very good. Tee boxes excellent. The greens were a little thin and burnt-out in places. Firm, but not too bad. Rolling at medium/slow speeds as is typical in the summer out in the desert. The course is a solid design. Nothing too dramatically different than a lot of the "country club" courses throughout the valley. One of many enjoyable Ted Robinson designs. Greens a bit smaller and less undulation than most Robinson courses, but otherwise about what you'd expect. Solid and enjoyable course all around. Friendly staff and facilities will be nice once they finish practice area renovation. Worth checking out if you get a chance to play it, but not worth going out there just for it. Playing this in the morning and then the PGA West Norman course in the afternoon (with a cheap, but fun walk around the Palm Royale par-3 course in between) made it a productive summer day in the desert for me!
