Played in the SCGA outing here this morning. Shotgun start at 8:30. We were never pushed from behind and we never pushed the group ahead, so it was a nice relaxed 4-hour pace. The staff here is excellent and attentive from the moment you roll up to the valet to the time you leave. Massive modern clubhouse and nice facilities all around to complement an old-fashioned course design. Conditions were nearly immaculate throughout. The tee boxes were excellent. The fairways were lush and beautiful. The rough was green and beautifully kept everywhere you looked. Not deep, but just enough to make you work a little. Bunkers had fantastic soft sand. The greens looked like they may still be recovering from a recent aeration, but they rolled super smooth and true. Medium/slow-ish speeds and firm surfaces that would still accept well-struck approach shots. This is the oldest 18-hole private course in the Coachella Valley, so there's a lot of history here to appreciate. The layout is pretty simple and not overly memorable, blending in with other old school courses in the area. Very forgiving all the way around. Some nice water hazards in play and you play through the wash on a handful of holes, but nothing overly intimidating. Overall, a pleasant on-course experience, exceptional conditioning and a bit of a confidence booster. It's the type of classic track where you'll remember the nice overall presentation and exclusive feel of such a historic club much more than the course itself, but still enjoyable in its own way.
