I just got done playing in the Oxnard City for the last two days on the Vineyard course (Jul 7&8). These rounds were my first rounds ever here. Overall, I liked the course - even though I am not partial to courses where homes line the fairways. The course design is pretty good - there is a lot of hole variety; doglegs both directions, uphill and downhill holes, and some tricky green complexes. The fairways are pretty generous, and there isn't much rough at all. But when the wind blows, it plays much tougher than the 118 slope from the whites. For the tournament, the course was in B+ shape. Most of the fairways were in good shape - only a few had some dry patches. The greens were pretty good - they rolled fast and smooth. For a $47 green fee on weekends, I would say it is a very good value. The tournament was run very, very well. Everyone associated did a terrific job - the staff was very friendly, helpful and efficient. They deserve a lot of credit - it was a fun time.

Greens are recovering from an apparently big punch, and have still quite a ways to go. As others mentioned, the area where the holes were punched are higher than the rest of the greens. Putting is all about luck not line, as there is nothing out there remotely resembling a true roll. The bumps kick putts (even short ones) unpredictably off-line. Other than that, the course is in great shape and is still fun to play.

Played on June 16th with a 6:42 morning tee time. The course was in great shape, except for the greens as mentioned in other posts. I don't know what was done to them but they look like they were punched with holes the size of a quarter and it is growing back in those areas with little raised areas. I don't know how many putts straight forward fairly easy putts were missed by the group, but I would say it cost everyone a couple of strokes. With that said the rest of the course was in fantastic shape and I will be returning again soon as it is a fun layout and if played smart good scores can be posted.

Played June 10 early AM; greens conditions completely changed from previous post [9 days ago]. Bumpy, bouncy, unpredictable. What a difficult job the greenskeeper must have! The balance of the course level with what was. But the greens were downright bad. What was makeable 6-8'er now predictably bounced off line...

Played June 1st STL- first time back out in a long 3 ½ months. For the Ridge regulars- conditons are better than average.
Fairways, even #9 are in very good shape, yield very good lies. Generally very few bare spots/GUR. I liked that the rough has grown out a bit and shaped the course more than usual. More noticeable on some holes than others [16/17/18/4/11].
The greens had just been ‘cross cut’ but nonetheless, once the speed was figured they are running pure and on line. Slower than average but still quick enough to respect.
Tee boxes punched in what had looked like 10-14 days previous.
No sand experiences. Wind was typical afternoon on shore making the course longer than advertised…
I’ve read all the Olivas gushing and talked to a number of friends as well - will get out there soon enough to check it out. Regardless, the Ridge offers plenty of variety, shape, elevation change, water and wind to entertain anyone. I hooked up with an out of towner and his take was interesting and complementary. I’ve noticed the rating/slope for the Olivas Links and once again am left scratching my head as to why the Ridge remains one of the most underrated courses in the County, in more ways than one.

Played on Memorial Day. Suprisingly quick pace considering holiday (4.5 hrs.). The course was in decent shape and the weather was nice so it was a good day overall.

Winds blowing 20-30mph today(2/13), played twilight today,nobody on course except our group and one other group behind us. Greens were not in great shape, alot of lumps and balls were fish-tailing(very different from last round were greens were true and were rolling at about a 13 stimp). Course maintenance has gone downhill the last couple times that I have been out here.

Played just after noon today(Sat 1/20). All I can say is WOW. Our group was humbled today once again by the speed of the greens. Example: My buddy right on hole 9, chips ball (mind you) lands in the rough just over bunker, ball rolls through fringe, through green, past red pin , down slope and into lake. My other buddy actually said nice shot when chip landed.

It seems that they have not watered greens in weeks and can you say it made for a real interesting/frustrating round. I shot about 4 shots worse than my index and I was happy with that. Fairways are really dry in all spots( no green grass). Lucky there was no wind out here today or it would have been that much tougher.

Got out Sunday/Monday/14th and 15th early both days. You can imagine with the temps dropping, even close to the beach the impact on the course. Hard hard fairways, harder greens. Bang your putter on the greens and sounds like cement. They had not watered them for 2 days prior to Sunday to avoid frost delays at the speed become very entertaining for chips/bumps. Today [MLK day] they did water Sunday night and have to report it did not help much- esp. with down wind holes. Also, Kyle put pin positions on 2-4-8-10-11-16 that were strategically much more difficult with the prevailing wind [long drive=short pin and/or on down slope or spine]. Mighty civil of him to put a retaining weed fence below the red pin on 11 to prevent balls from rolling into the lake.

Overall, the course is holding up pretty well. Came close to beating my index both days and under the conditions, feel good about that. The hard pan lies, rock hard greens, and wind are teaching me a lot about how to manage my game right now and I believe will lead to some really good scores later in the spring and summer – might do the same for you.
