I had an opportunity to join a good friend for a round here on Friday, 8/28, with an early tee time. We were joined by another member for an awesome round. Nice relaxing pace and finished way too early in 3.5 hours. Started the day at the huge all grass driving range with Titleist practice balls. They have enough space to move the stations every day for 2 weeks before they repeat. Practice green showed signs of aeration with a sandy topping on it. The club owned carts come with GPS to that day's hole location, big comfy seats, dual coolers, and a bunker rake (I don't know if this a C19 adjustment and forgot to ask). There's an outdoor snack bar for before round and prior to the back 9 refreshments. Post round, enjoyed the view overlooking the course and Lake Las Vegas in the distance. The course is a Jack Nicklaus Signature course with a very intimidating scorecard. It tips out at 6903 yards (74.1/149). We played the whites, which are 6175 yards, 70.3 rating, and an eye opening 141 slope. Visually, the course is spectacular and not fear inducing (for the most part). Tee boxes level with little to no divots. The mostly wide fairways are lush and carpet like. The rough and bunkers are where this course has teeth. The fairway bunkers are deep, but with firm sand. Greenside bunkers are also deep, the sand this morning was a little firm due to watering, but all are well manicured. The rough is sneaky long, up to 3-4 inches in spots. You definitely need to pin point where your tee shot went to have a chance of finding it. Almost any shot not on the fairway required a huge decision to "go for it" or just pitch it forward and recover. The greens were incredible. I was told they were punched 10 days ago, but showed no signs, except for some light sanding on a few greens. They were running at a perfect medium-fast pace, I could see them making the greens faster and the undulating triple tier become a roller coaster of fun. It was everything I expected of this course. Some fantastic views (17th tee box is incredible), elevation changes, and about 7 holes with water in play. The tee shots on the closing holes of 16-18 are the most intimidating shots I've ever faced. All 3 are huge carries over canyons that look farther than they are. It's tough to compare a private course to a public access one, so I will judge it against the other private courses I've played in the Vegas area (Las Vegas CC and DragonRidge). It is absolutely the best of the 3 overall.
