Played here yesterday as part of an SCGA outing. $60 was a great rate for such a nice course. Several GK'ers were there, including rgm2525 and abbacat. It was an 8:00 shotgun and it's obvious the club hasn't hosted many outside groups because of how disorganized things were. They also had us playing the "Original Course," which consists of holes from all three nines, but it was the original routing before they added 9 more holes at some point. Those other 9 holes across the street were closed off for major maintenance. Our group started on the 18th hole (9th hole of the Island nine). We never pushed the groups ahead and the group behind was always at least a couple holes back, so we felt like we had the place to ourselves and enjoyed our own relaxed 4-hour pace.
The conditions were exceptional from tee to green. The tee boxes, fairways and rough were just perfectly manicured. The fairways were ideal to hit from and the ball generally sat up nicely in the rough. The bunkers could use some more sand. The greens were firm-ish and rolling a little slower than they looked. The greens definitely showed more imperfections than the rest of the course, but still pretty good. My overall number rating will probably be a little lower than it should be. I gave the greens a 7, fairways/tees a 10 and rough a 9, so that will give you some idea.
"Pleasant" is the word our group kept using during the round. It is a very pretty course that is so nicely conditioned. The big houses around the course are quite nice and the aesthetics overall are great. The layout itself is interesting enough to keep you engaged, but is still relatively forgiving. In other words, it won't beat you up too much, but it won't bore you either. It's just a nice pleasant country club experience that I would certainly recommend to anyone. The colonial/southern style clubhouse with bricks and columns has a great stately look as you drive into the parking lot and the facilities are excellent overall, even though we didn't quite have access to everything as a big guest group.
