Not a lot of info on this formally private course, so I took a shot and made it part of a north state trip. YOWZA! It's been many years since I played Dark Horse and Apple Mountain but if they had a baby this place might be it. A tight in spots tree lined mountain course with good elevation change. Not sure what I expected but this wasn't it in a very good way.
Course in solid winter shape with some dicey lies mostly in the rough. Greens were smooth and quick. Not a lot of bunkers on the course and most are green side. Wasn't in any of them but they looked fine. I hate target golf as well as having to lay up off the tee esp. on par fives and I had an absolute blast. It is a stout test from the blue tees at 6,349( 71.5/137.) If I played the 6,000 green tees it might have played much different for me. Even still it was just one solid golf hole after the next.
A creek meanders thru the course, mostly on the back nine and can cause havoc with your score. Pro shop guy(bad with names) was super nice and gave me a yardage book that was most helpful. Definitely a course you need to play more than once. It is rough terrain so I'm not sure if the course is ever in pristine condition but if it is it could be a top course for design, shot values, challenge, and scenery. I've rambled on and probably left out lots of info but the best thing I can say about this course is; if I hadn't already made tee times at other courses I would have played it again the next day. As an added bonus it was a "hot deal" With $20 off it cost me $12 and it was 78 degrees on Dec. 1st. Highly recommend.
