Played on Friday 4/18 with fellow GKer's tonybarrett, kviser and Sixpez. We had vouchers through MoreGolfToday.com that including a cart and range balls. The practice facilities has a driving range on grass(no mats). Staff was very friendly.

The course was in good condition for being in the middle of the desert. There are many tree lined holes. The course condition got better as we progress but the wind did pick up. Plenty of fairways roll. Greens had been aerated a few weeks ago but roll ok. Bunkers had sand not dirt.

I would pick AVCC over Rancho Vista in terms of Palmdale/Lancaster courses, but I was in minority in our foursome. I liked two of the par 3's, hole two with a big Joshua tree in the middle of right green-side bunker and hole 11 with a large lake. I can't wait to play again.

Played Friday 4/18 with other GK'ers with a pre purchased coupon. Great experience as its always nice to have the opportunity to play a members only course at your own pace without the crowds. The course itself was just OK with many long fairly tight tree lined flat holes. From a distance the course looks to be in great shape with striped fairways but when you get closer you are faced with many hard pan lies and its thin in some areas, as a result it started to feel average. The greens were recently punched but putted true and will be great when healed.

Played today with fellow GKers on a "Member for a Day" voucher we purchased for $45. My first time here at this old-school, desert layout. It did remind me of a tighter version of Crystalaire CC in nearby Llano. I totally agree with sixpez's take. Lots of Joshua trees and prickly desert things in the waste areas that dot the course, as well as large pines and cottonwoods. Prudent shots down the middle should keep your score down. Yeah, good luck with that. The greens are small by comparison to most courses I play. They're still in recovery mode from recent punching and sanding, but a nice medium speed and pretty smooth. I bet they could make them fast if they wanted to. In a week or two it's going to be even better. The fairways and rough were in great shape; it seemed a little more lush on the back nine. There was a barranca running diagonally through several fairways on the back and it was just deep grass, so not too penal. I pretty much stayed out of it, but Mr. Barrett had a thick lie in it on 14; he was only able to advance the ball half way to the hole from it. There are two lakes on the course, but only one comes into play; over the water from the tee on 11 (par 3), and again on the 14th (par 5). There is a great practice area with a large putting green, two pitching greens (a small one by the range and a larger one near the putting green), The range is adequately sized (hitting from grass, thank you) with several target greens with yardages marked out on a sign. Great customer service and lots of friendly folks. We asked to play some extra holes and they obliged us with the promise that we have the carts back by 6:30. Four more holes and we were done as members for a day. I'd go back any time they will have me.
