Played early on Sunday morning (3/8). I was grouped with the first group off the tee so the pace was really fast. The course condition was good. There were some patches here and there but nothing too bad on the fairway. The greens were speedy and nice. I believe they have it noted here on greenskeeper.org that they will be aerating this weekend. The only disappointment was on the 18th hole. They have a temporary tee box set up that makes the par 4 hole into a par 3 156 yards. Other than that, wasn't too bad.

Back again today and we played in 3:30. Not much more to say than what we said last week, but glad to know they will aerate 3/15-17 as some of the greens need it (more of a visual vs affecting putting... Continue »

Not much more to say than what we said last week, but glad to know they will aerate 3/15-17 as some of the greens need it (more of a visual vs affecting putting). Was nice to see the maintenance guys out using the stamping tool to fix the divots, that others do not (nice touch). Overall course in nice condition. Good tee boxes; fairways clean and providing good roll (though they need more grass as you will find good lies but some tight lies await). Bunkers all raked and clean. No rough to speak of (but stay out of the water). Greens clean and though they looked slow, they were very fast and even faster when the sun dried them out. Customer service with starter excellent. Enjoyable course to play and easy to walk.

Played this morning in a great time of 3 hours. Very cold when we started but warmed up nicely after an hour. The recent rains have helped the course and kudos to the maintenance team for how fast they cleaned it up today. Tee boxes were cut/clean and level, no issues. Sand traps had all been raked by maintenance crew. Rough was not high but wet. Fairways were mowed and in good shape (considering recent rain) and provided good lies all morning (only bad fairway was # 18 as mentioned by Hammer74). Greens were all mowed and provided great putting/chipping (sure they will only get better with sunny days). Held shots well and saw no unrepaired divots (yeah) and no divot damage present. Customer service was excellent at all levels. Had not played here in many years and look forward to returning on a more regular basis, as it is an enjoyable layout (classic old layout done in 1928) and easy to walk (I noticed they had Sun Mt push carts for rent).

Played on sunday 1140am tee time. course was backed up and did not tee of until close to 12pm. Checkin was fast. They have 2 windows for the 2 different courses.

Played on sunday 1140am tee time. course was backed up and did not tee of until close to 12pm. Checkin was fast. They have 2 windows for the 2 different courses.

Headed to 1st tee and upon finishing 1st hole, we saw a backup of 3 groups on the 2nd tee box. 20 min wait. Turns out this is the bottleneck of the course and it did not help that they put the flag at the verge of the ridge where missed putts will roll all the way down to the front of the green. After this - it was smooth sailing. POP 5 hours 15 mins not including the wait times to tee off.

Course overall is in good shape. Decent amount of turf on the fairways. Greens rolling medium fast. Bunkers decent.

Saw the bevcart 1 time. No marshalls except the ones on #2 hole. Food at the turn was decently priced. the cook was friendly and fast in getting our orders done.

The only area that was a bit of a let down was 18th hole. There's some construction and somehow the fairways are not only punched but rather left with very little grass. If your ball is on the right side of the fairway, you are laying on dirt.

Overall, had a great time and will revisit this again.

Played # 1 (Koiner) on Monday 2/16. Had a 9:59 tee time. probably didn't tee off til 10:10 or so. Played as a single with another single and a twosome (4some). Wound up with a birdie on 1 after a good putt from off the green. but after hole 1, the course kind of got pretty slow. waited for 2 groups on the tee before our group on #2 hole. Wound up finishing around 3:45 or so... d%mn near a 6 hour round.

Course looked to be in good shape. Greens had some bare spots but for the most part held shots well and rolled pretty true. Some greens needed to be cut better or perhaps need to be redone, but didn't necessarily affect putts.

Tee boxes were pretty nice, mostly level (except 18 but more on 18 in a bit). not too many divot damage (on par 3's) and if there was, there was usually a good spot to tee it up.

Fairways, on some holes, were probably the most inconsistent part of the course. perhaps because of the weather, or the fact that they do use some of the course for parking at rose bowl events, 18th fairway was horrible. 18th green was horrible, really disappointing that 18 was in such disarray. i wound up hitting my approach shot off of dirt even though my drive was on the right side of the fairway. all the grass from 160yards and in was ... well there was hardly any grass.

I would play this course again for the 47.00 i paid on GN (golf now) but i would tee off much earlier in the day assuming that would guarantee a less than 6 hour round. i think the rack rate is 75.00 for Koiner, which i dont see myself paying anytime soon with the conditions on 18.

other than 18 the course is very playable. they send out 5somes.

TLDR? course in decent shape, tee off early, rough not too penalizing, tight fairways, accuracy is ideal, long course, worth 47.00 and not rack rate

In a word, terrible. Severely disappointed in the condition of this course. You used to be able to count on Brookside always being in great condition. Not anymore. Greens were hard as rocks and bumpy. Area around the greens was grassy but wispy with hard as a rock ground which made the golf club bounce hard on pitch/chip shots. I literally could not stick my tee in the ground on hole #2. One of my playing partners spoke to a girl working the course area and she said there is a new superintendent and her working the condition of the course. I hope they get their act together because I won't be going back any time soon. She told my friend, "I'm sorry you feel that way" after he told her of his disappointment. Don't spend the money to play here, I'm just glad we found a deal on GN or I would be severely po'd!!

Played the back 9 on 12/20 as a single, paired with a father and son twosome. I can only speak for 10 through 18. The course was in fantastic condition! I almost didn't go after reading the previous review. The fairways were in good shape and green. The greens were quick for early morning and in very good shape, I was most impressed with the bunkers, I found three of them, the sand was fantastic! I expected early morning mud but I got nice quality sand! I paid $22.00 via Golfzing for a 7 am tee time, totally worth it! I wouldn't pay the $75 rate for 18 holes though.

I play here four to five times a week and it is very clear that the ROSE BOWL does not give a crap about eather course! I played course 2 yesterday and 9 holes to day before it started raining. This is what you will find on eather course if you play: bottle caps (plastic & steel), broken beer bottles, trash, burn spots from charcoal and in one case a pile of charcoal in the middle of the fairway. The game was on Friday and today is Tuesday, how long does it take to clean up. It's no wonder that some of the people that play here have no respect for the course when the Rose Bowl uses it as a parking lot and the people that park here use it as a dump.

This is a perfect example of what goes on were every day. Today I was third off (trying to beat the rain) the two-some in front of me could only manage to put the flag half of the time and rake the bunker not on your life!. In one case the woman walked right over the rake that was in the bunker and out the other side.

Don't come and play here, it's not worth it.

Played 10-20-14 in the afternoon on a teeoff deal for $19. It took almost 5 hours to play waiting on every hole. Tee boxes where just OK. Fairways where on the thin side with some dried out areas and some dirt with a little mud thrown in. Rough was thin with some bare areas. Found one green side bunker that was on the thin side. Greens where medium fast but very bumpy with a lot of them having two different grasses. Overall the course needs a lot of work.
