Played Sunday 6/3/12. Went out at 6:40am and the pace was really good. Was done in 4 1/2 hours easy. Little to no wait on any holes. Course is in real good condition and the greens were actually faster then I remember them being. Overall I had a great morning out there.

Played Sunday, off at 9:36. As always it is a little slow for the first two holes. The pace picked up and then slowed at the turn. We finished in about 4.5 to 5 hours. The greens are in great shape; they were lush, soft, medium fast speed, and no ball marks or damage. A couple of my playing partners found some bumpiness, but it was not bad. Tees, fairways, and rough were all in good shape. Leaves and debris was being raked by the grounds crew, most notably along the left side of 10 in the trees. The weather was in the low 80's and it felt a little humid. The prime time resident rate on Sunday to ride is $52, which I find a little steep. Non-residents can expect to pay $5 more. Ouch.

Played Thursday (5/17) as a 4 ball and had a good time. The course is in good shape. Greens med/fast and smooth, fairways and rough good. The sand I can't tell you because I wasn't in one but they look good. A very good four hour walk. T-time 6:48 and in the car by 10:50 Only had to wait on the first two holes.

Played Hansen dam on friday 5-4 twilight. Was the third group out for twilight. Course is in great shape for a city course. Greens are healed from aeration. Rough is one of the thickest i've played this year. Bunkers was in good shape except all the foot prints in them. Surprisingly finished the round in 4 hours 15 mins.

Sometime the Starters can be real jerks though (we went after an unscheduled aeration, they didn't mention a thing on the phone ahead of time, and when we sent for a refund they basically told us to screw off, we just ended up playing in the sand)

Got there around 9 and checked in with my buddy,,,who made a T time for 10am but for Balboa!! Doh! The starter was cool and said we could go out whenever! There were a lot of kids in the practice bunkers with a coach, but the course was empty! One foursome in front of us and they blazed a trail after the second hole which we waited for them to clear the green to we could "Go For It!". The weather was great but the course was greater! The greens were in great shape so get out there before they aerate! They fairways were in great shape as well. The bunkers were a little firm, thin soft layer on top and hard underneath. What a great day for golf and we were lucky with virtually no one there. The pace of play was perfect as we were able to really look over our putts and approach shots. The service was great inside as well, food and the pro shop. Very nice people and a fun track!

Played in windy conditions today. I have not been here in a long time, maybe a year. The course is in great condition for mid-winter. Greens are somewhat fast, but not overly so. A little soft, firm at times, but no ball marks. Some bumpiness on a few greens due to poa, but not bad. Lush conditions throughout the course. Maintenance crews working in the trees raking up pine needles, etc... Hole 2 tees seem to always be on the left and they are actually extending the tee box as far left as they can go so going for the green is almost out of the question. Additionally, there are a lot of new cedar trees planted along the left side of the fairway. When they grow up, it will make going straight for the green a bad idea.

I haven't played this course since it they switched the 9's. Was lucky enough to get out on Monday (holiday) at 7:48am. Pace of play was not too bad, despite the slow 4-some in front of us, and the even slower twosome in front of them. It was a blessing getting out early as it appeared to get busier as the day progressed. I still hate the old #10, which is now #1, hole. Kind of a really dumb layout. I also don't like finishing the front 9 on a par 3. I miss the old par 3, which would be #6 Hole (old #15.) I've always liked this track, not the greatest, but can be fun with a few challenging holes. I have always been impressed how they've maintained the greens here, for as much play as they get. They hold yet role rather smooth (not too fast, and not slow at all.) I do wish there was enough money that the city would put a little more TLC to the fairways and also the palm trees and landscaping. Those first two opening holes are horrendous looking with hard pan, dry fairways. And a net would be nice to separate the driving range from the #1 fairway as to not have to spend more than the needed time to look for your ball amongst all those range balls. Other than that, I don't play this course very often, but when I do, as long as I'm having a good to decent round, as I did this day, I thoroughly enjoy playing here. A lot more than the madness at Wilson or Rancho.

I have now played this course several times over the past 2 months. I will be moving to better pastures for at least a few months. The pace of play here is not daunting, but 4.5-5 hours is typically especially on the weekends. I played Monday the 19th, teeing off at 7:50. Played with a couple great guys, but the movement in front of us was rather sloth like.

The tee boxes definitely need some work. I think this course sees a lot of action, because almost all the tee boxes were really cut up. The rough on the course is probably my biggest gripe. You have no idea what to expect from hole to hole. Some holes the rough is really thick and lush, other holes it is sparse grass with gravel and hardpan. The fairways are well maintained on most holes. The sand bunkers are in excellent shape from the few I visited, plenty soft, well raked and fresh. As some of my previous posts have pointed out the greens here are excellent. They run much faster than they appear, and some are quite difficult to read. Saw very few unrepaired divots, and the over all condition was good.

With some more rain and TLC the rough would see some great improvement. Hopefully when I return in a few months the course will have improved. Overall though you get what you pay for at this course, and it is what is expected from a local muni.
