Played on Saturday 1/29 with a mid-morning tee time. POP was just awful. It took about 5 to 5 1/4 hours to play 18. We teed off about 20 - 25 minutes from our scheduled tee time. We had to wait to play on every hole. We got to hole #13 and by the time we teed off, there were 3 groups waiting to tee off. So we decided to let the group behind us that we would waive them up after we reached the 13 green. After we finished the 13th hole, POP on the last 5 holes was much better as it allowed more space from the group in front and behind us.

The tee boxes had decent coverage for this time of year. Fairways had good grass coverage but there were bare spots here and there. The fairways were very dry and the ground was very hard. The bunkers were a little hard packed today. The greens were running very fast today. It is not a flat course. Some holes are very hilly. First hole and the ninth hole are very tough to play with steep hill on both these holes.

I noticed on the driving range they got some new balls. When we got a bucket of balls, there was a mix of old and new balls. It's very hard to get a tee time on the weekends. They have gone to getting a tee time 9 days before at 9 am like the other LA County golf courses. We like playing here but playing here is starting to be what it was like pre-Covid (5 plus hours to play 18). Course has a nice layout going through a housing track. Snack bar is open.

Nice little twilight round at Knollwood this past Friday with two friends. We took one cart (one walked) and played from the blue tees. The two-tiered range and practice putting green is open and ready for business.

Hopefully one of the lasting impacts from the Covid restrictions will be the more staggered tee times as KCC was quite infamous before for six-hour rounds. It's definitely not that bad right now as we played in just around 4.5 hours, but we did have a slow group in front of us who seemed pretty new to the sport, and some other twosomes that just seemed to show up out of the blue and be in front of us again. Very odd. No marshals to keep this in check.

Conditions are pretty darn good right now across the board at Knollwood, with the exception of some of the tee boxes. Hole 18 for example was absolutely at an angle and a few others were simply not mowed down at all with lots of bare spots. The rest of the course was good.

Greens were running medium-fast and had good coverage with a few holes showing some damage, but overall quite good. A lot of subtle but significant breaks at Knollwood, and a few really sloped greens, like hole 3 especially. The fairways were mostly good with some thin areas here and there and rough was generally playable but some mulch/dirt areas that have rocks along the sides of the fairways so keep it straight. I was not in any bunkers all day but did not hear any complaints.

I always enjoy my rounds at Knollwood when they don't take six hours, so it was a really fun afternoon and I would definitely recommend stopping by right now if you have the chance.

Course conditions are one of the best I've seen for this time of year. There's a reseeding in progress on some of the holes. The fairways had very good grass coverage from tee to green. Though there were some parts of the fairways that were a little sloshy and there wee bare spots here and there. Tee boxes have very good grass coverage. It wasn't as beat up like I've seen at other courses. Bunkers were a little hard packed and some had water in it. The greens are the best I've seen around. Sometimes the greens would roll a little bumpy. Most of the time balls would roll fairly smooth. It was a little windy when we played which will effect play on some of the holes.

The only drawback is that it's so hard to get a tee time here on the weekends. Just got lucky to get a tee time for 4. Carts were available and I saw a lot of people were walking today. Course is not flat to walk. Hole #1 is hard hole to start with especially with an elevated tee box, driving range on the right and it plays uphill. Like playing here as the course runs through a housing track. Covid-19 golf rules still in effect - can't remove pins, no ball washers, no rakes in bunkers. Looks like you can only share carts if both riders are from same household.

There's a two level driving range here and the putting green was open. The snack bar was open with outdoor dining. This is one of my favorite courses to play.

Ended up back at Knollwood this weekend after a buddy magically picked up a 9:30am tee time for this Sunday. With so much difficulty getting local tee times of late, jumped at the chance to come back to this fun course despite all of Nickesquire's attempts to keep me far from the Hills of Granada. ;-p

Organization at the start was a bit of a mess as we paid for carts that simply weren't there. We ended up walking the first hole and then the staff actually drove our cart to us on the 2nd tee box, so no harm done, but I can only guess that was an issue all morning after with so many people waiting around to tee off with no other carts in sight.

Conditions were not much different than my review from last month, essentially that the fairways are in good, not quite great shape, tee boxes are hit and miss, bunkers are almost always very nicely maintained here, and the greens, while very slopey and difficult, usually have good coverage and roll pretty fast. Sometimes they're bumpy here but that was not the case this past weekend.

The layout is the star here with a few quirky holes mixed in, but I think some of the views, especially closing out the round, are just phenomenal. When the clouds broke and the sun shone through yesterday, the 16th tee box view was quite a sight to behold. It's a very fun challenge and I got through the entire round playing the same ball and no penalties so that was a great day.

POP, which is often an issue at Knollwood, was very good as well yesterday. No delays whatsoever and only really waited a bit on the par 3s - so nice work there. No cart service anywhere but great little snack shop en route to the 10th hole from the 9th green. Very convenient. Good times all around.

Perfect weather in the low 60's with sun and clouds made for an enjoyable round for my group at Knollwood on Monday, 3/8/21. Overall, Knollwood is in decent shape for winter conditions. I really like the layout here. Many different types of shots are required, and a nice variety of terrain.

Tee boxes are OK. Some were chewed up and hard, but mostly it was not an issue. Fairways are winter thin with plenty of roll. Being in the fairway does not guarantee a good lie. There were bare spots and hardpan, along with some decent lies to be had. The rough along the fairways was about 1 - 3 inches. Sometimes you had a difficult lie with your ball settled down and sometimes it wasn't too bad. The areas surrounding the greens were very firm and thin. You had to be careful with your pitch/chip shots not to blade them. I was in two greenside bunkers. They had adequate firmly packed sand. No trouble to get out of. For the most part, the greens were good. They were medium fast and generally smooth. although we did experience several putts that were bounced off line by bumps in the greens. I enjoyed the round today. But the condition is only fair right now, which is typical for many courses at this time of year.

Long weekend second round at Knollwood with three friends, playing from the blue tees and riding with cart for $60 - a very fair price for this great layout and especially when it's not a six-hour round. I've seen conditions better here but it's very playable right now, even though the greens are extremely challenging with their severe slopes and current bumpiness.

Yes, the greens are something else here. They're already extremely difficult to play thanks to the many slopes, false fronts and tricky angles, but with the current speeds added to a number of bumps, it's a real tester without a doubt. Be prepared to watch seemingly solid putts go for a long ride far, far from the pin.

Fairways are playing pretty nicely right now but you're going to find some thin lies as well, and also lots of trouble in the fairways adjacent areas with lots of mulch and just general mayhem. Lots of collection areas too that will make shots difficult. Bunkers looked nice but I only got stuck in one of them, but no complaints from the others, while the tee boxes are in need of some work - not sure if it's from being overplayed or just the shadows making it difficult to keep them in good shape.

No cart service as per usual here (can't remember ever seeing it here) but a super-convenient snack shop at the turn. Carts are very basic. Two-tier driving range is open but practice putting green is still closed. Saw the marshal out there as well moving things along which was nice.

Knollwood remains a super-fun and challenging layout but current conditions make it play even harder than it normally is so be prepared for a strong challenge but a rewarding day.

Played today on 1/18/21 with a mid-morning tee time. POP was just under 4 hours to play 18. It's been a long time since I last played here. Morning tee times are so hard to get to play here. Driving range is open but every other stall is closed for COVID-19 social distancing. It's two level driving range with the top level irons only. Practice putting green was closed due to COVID-19.

This is a challenging course to play. Hole #1 is a challenging hole to start off with an elevated tee. There's a driving range on the right, hill and trees on the left, and about 1/2 way down this hole, the rough on the right slopes down toward the driving range. Not too mention there's an elevated green with bunkers in front. Tough par 5 to start the day. Today was a rather windy day which made it harder to hit into the wind. Course is not flat . Hole #9 is a challenge to play with an elevated green. But we did see a lone coyote near the 9th green. Tee boxes were fairly decent with good coverage. The fairways had very good grass coverage. Though fairways had some thin, yellow and dirt spots here and there. The bunkers were a little thin on some holes and sometimes a little hard packed. But the greens are in excellent shape. They're the best I've seen in the area. Greens were running a little fast but there were running fairly smooth.

Playing here with COVID-19 rules. There's no rakes in the bunkers, you must not touch the flag on the greens, and there's no ball washers near the tees. They removed all water coolers on the course. Bathrooms are open on the course.

There's no GPS in the carts. I believe the snack bar is open for take out orders but we didn't visit so can't comment on the food. Love the layout of this course as it goes through residential areas. We'll be back again if I can get a tee time here.

"Go west young man, and grow up with the country"...grown up is overrated, but golf isn't! So, after the extra hour of sleep, I left the house and headed west to Knollwood 11/1, for a team match with Sr714/m.pugh. First time there for me and a good day for a match. The layout has mostly holes that are nestled in tree lined canyons with homes just beyond the trees. There's pretty much always an elevation change, so if this is your bag...baby, get your fix here. It's fairly quiet, except for a few planes on approach to Van Nuys. We finished in about 4.5 POP on a Sunday. The tees were a little chewed but playable, we played from the whites. The fairways were good, and you'd get both helpful run out on some and soft saving landings on others. I had no issues hitting woods to wedges from any fairway lies today. The rough was good and not to fear(you won't quite lose your ball, but it will challenge you here and there). Now, the areas beyond the cuts of rough are dominated by canyon banking and pine trees. This means hitting the ball, either above or below your feet, with pine needles, twigs and pine cones...so don't expect grass in there(one should discipline oneself to avoid it). I will step out on a limb and say that the greens were putting med/fast. They were mostly tricky to me today on reading the break, because I do better when the practice greens are open. They were anywhere between softer and firmer,  but clearly accepting typical shots. Foam in cups.
The pro shop was open, the snack shop window was open, patio seating open with limited seating, no drink cart, putting green closed, 200yd max driving range open(mats), and the front and back 9 restrooms open. There's no water holes at Knollwood, and that helped me shoot 2 strokes below my handicap. My teammate had useful knowledge and strategies for Knollwood, so here's a shout out for Perry! I would play here again.

I played Knollwood this morning at 7:50am and got around at a sweet pace (especially here!) of just under 4 hours with BigIsland818.

This was the first time I've been to Knollwood in about 10 years. I love the layout and it feels so nice to not be playing a desert course. I love the tree lined fairways and the coziness, but there is still plenty of room in the fairways and of course the elevation changes add a great deal in places.

Unfortunately, the greens are still a big issue here. I'm not sure why, but no one apparently thinks repairing ball marks here is a good idea. There are soooo many unrepaired spots it's frustrating at times. I try not to be too picky, but I would bet I repaired no less than 50 ball marks today and that was just around my ball. There were also a number of greens with lots of small clots of grass and dirt just laying on top. I wasn't sure whether that was from the green mowers or something else, but it just doesn't seem to be a high priority here.

Overall, the fairways were in nice shape, the tees may have been a little shaggy in places but are flat and easy to find a place to play from. Rough is uneven and thin in some areas, but could be because of our recent weather.

Honestly, i think this track is a nice challenge. After playing here in the Men's club for years, a long time ago, the pace of play was surprising and should be commended! Maintenance is ok, customer service is routine and there is nothing in the pro shop at the moment, which is also understandable. I look forward to going back and can only hope the staff start reminding players to repair their ball marks and start being a bit more diligent about their greens.
