Played Knollwood on Saturday 10/5, and just wanted to report that the greens are pretty much fully healed from punching. Just a slight bit of sand underneath the surface but putts rolled fairly well -- maybe a bit on the slow side very early in the morning due to moisture. Greens were also pretty soft and receptive to approach shots. The first few fairways were a little beat up (not sure if they punched fairways too) with a lot of dirt and loose grass, but the rest of the course was pretty much fine. Overall a very good pace because we were one of the first few out.

Can confirm aerated greens. I should have known better to check here first, but it is a peeve of mine when the course doesn't make it clear online and in the golf shop. That being said, the rest of the course is in good enough shape for the price. Fairways mostly green with some visible dead areas on each hole, tee boxes mostly OK (definitely not recently leveled some clearly not mowed in awhile to keep as flat and cut as possible), bunkers were wet sand but still sand. Pace of Play for 1:50 tee time was about 4:15. Pro shop sold as single and said "just find a group of less than 4 and go out" instead of organizing, but it worked out because he said that to other singles and we ended up as a 4some.

Layout is a fun one. Typical of the residential country club era in LA...hilly, can really get some extra yardage playing the right spots.

Got a last minute tee time with a buddy for Knollwood on Saturday with an 11:40am tee time. Last few visits to KCC had gone pretty smoothly so I assumed the same for this round, but I was well mistaken. I will say the gent at the starter's office was great and handled everything well. Got there early to hit the range only to find out only one range ball machine worked, there was a line of ten people because it was out of balls and was going to take another 20-25 minutes or so to fill it. So much for warming up. We were then paired with a twosome and took off around ten minutes late. NBD. Unfortunately after that we ended up waiting on every single hole for a long time, and even two deep on some of the par 3s. It never let up even on the turn (where we had a twosome trying to cut in on us starting on the back nine) and we finished the round in just under six hours with the sun going down. Insanity. At least the course was in pretty darn good shape, which was the only saving grace. Greens were in good shape albeit with a few too many unrepaired ball marks, but they were rolling well and consistent. Fairways had some thin spots in and around the fairways but good grass if you hit it where you're supposed to. Tee boxes (we played the blues) were in mostly good shape but not pristine in any way. Rough was mixed but playable. Only bunker I ended up in was very thin and still on the wet side and I have no idea why. Old country-club style layout at Knollwood is always fun and a very good challenge with some great looking holes along the way, but of course the luster was taken off a bit when having to wait anywhere from 5-15 minutes on every single hole to play. Frustrating and definitely an issue that needs to be looked at from the KCC brass.

We had the first time this AM had a nice POP of 3 H. With the exception of a 10/15 sometimes 20 MPH wind from the N, all went smoothly. But it was a challenge playing into the wind on the N holes and a wild ride on those heading S. Course is in nice shape and the wind has dried out the fairways and greens making it play fast. Tee boxes all fine. Fairways had good coverage, lies and roll out. Traps were all playable and heard no issues. Greens were firm and putted in the 10 to 12 range all morning and anything downhill was heart stopping. Found very little if any rough which made the fairways nice and wide. Customer service in the shop from Glen was terrific. Sr rate with County card is $38. Of course the real issue here is the freeway. Took us 30 minutes to arrive this AM but an hour coming home using the 118/210 through Pasadena. Course is recommended.

I played on Friday, 9/22. I did not read the prior review, but I had a feeling. A buddy of mine was paying for me, so I can't complain too much about that. We had a 2:40 tee time and went out a couple of minutes early, first as a threesome, then a single joined us at Hole 4. Knollwood, IMO, is notoriously slow. However, although the course was stacked up, everyone played without delay, and we finished each nine in about 2:10. We finished right at sunset. Greens were aerated last Monday and Tuesday. Big hole aeration with a moderate amount of sand. It was not too terrible, and I think it will heal fast. Maybe within another week or two and the greens will roll great again. I was fixing a lot of ball marks as the greens were soft and it seems like folks just aren't fixing. Fairways and rough seemed very lush and soft. The kikuyu grass was thick in many places and hitting a good shot from the rough was a challenge for me. Fairways were cut just enough to get some good rollout, so that was good. Bunkers had a decent amount of sand, but nobody seemed to be raking today. I was in a few bunkers and only once I had unexpected hard pack. We played the White tees and they were mostly level and lush, although a little beat up in some places. It was a good time playing here, as I have not been here in some time. Maybe it's been a few years. I may have to come back soon.

FYI, Played yesterday, 9/18/23. Started off the back 9. Front nine aerated and sanded, back was probably done today!! So buyer beware!!

Got a late twosome at Knollwood this past Saturday with a 9am tee time. Unfortunately my buddy had to bail out last minute but the KCC staff was great as they took care of everything and got me in with a fun threesome going out at around the same time. Hit the practice range, bought a sleeve of balls and got a cart all for around $87. Not bad at all.

Very good conditions right now overall at Knollwood. Greens were in nice shape, rolling true and medium-fast speeds and holding shots pretty well. You'll get some pretty big ball marks on some of the greens so please make sure to fix them. Fairways are in really good shape compared to past visits, and the rough is in nice shape. Bunkers were avoided all day but seemed to be fine, while the tee boxes (played the whites this time around) were level and covered properly.

Very fun and picturesque layout at Knollwood that's always a treat, but of course the only thing that can be difficult is the POP. This time out was no different, but better than some past visits as we finished up at just over five hours in total. Company was good and the day was hot and gorgeous so it didn't really put a big damper on the proceedings.

If you've never played KCC, it's worth a visit right now to get pretty prime conditions, but just make sure you're whole experience isn't hinged on a four-hour round.

Played a Friday twilight round at Knollwood with three buddies after finding a late foursome available online some time earlier in the week. Check-in went smoothly and we played from the blue tees on a hot afternoon with a very reasonable $45 greens fee.

First thing to offer praise for was the POP. Normally this can be a hassle at KCC but there were plenty of carts ready to go when we arrived and you could tell the hot temperatures were keeping a lot of the casuals at home. So when we finished in just four hours, it was a terrific accomplishment. Moved freely all afternoon for the most part and that's just such a pleasant rarity at Knollwood.

The course itself is in good late summer shape with a few trouble spots here and there. Tee boxes are definitely feeling the summer strain, but you'll always find a flat area to hit from. Some are just overgrown though and some too thin. Same sort of 'hit or miss' applies to the bunkers where some were quite nice and fluffy, while others were granular and thin.

Fairways were in overall pretty good shape with lots of good lies, but there were definitely some burned out areas off to the sides and even close to the greens. There's a lot of dry and mulch areas just off the fairways at the often tight Knollwood course, but you'll be well rewarded right now with shots that find the middle. The greens were running pretty good as well, probably about a 10 and nothing much to complain about there.

Always a fun and challenging layout, if you can get in and out of Granada Hills in four hours, it's been a very good day. Long may it last.

Played 7/5 at 540 in the morning as a two-some. If not for a couple twosomes walking in front of us, we'd have been done in 3 hours easy. Pace of play was great. Course on the other hand - not so much. Greens were hit or miss...they were all shaggy and needed to be mowed/rolled, but all of them included some very thin/dead spots. Tees (backs) were like a cow pasture. Weeds/unmowed made it hard to find decent places to hit on a few of them. Rough was basically non-existent. You could tell that this place has cut back on water big time. Always love the layout of this course (except number 15, hate that hole), but as long as the drought continues, this place will continue to be nothing more than a goat hill.
