Played on Sunday afternoon 10/2/2011. They recently opened the Valley course after greens aeration and overseeding the fairways. It's cart path only right now. The course is greening up nicely. The fairways are in excellent shape - very lush and green. The tee boxes are still quite "furry" right now. I'm sure they'll cut the grass more tightly when appropriate after the overseeding. But the tee boxes are very lush. The greens are still quite bumpy from the aeration. They're slow, but not unputtable. There are good putts to be made. It will probably be another 10 days or so before they're healed.

I visited two green side bunkers. The sand was soft and fluffy in both of them. The rough is lush and about 1 - 2" in length. I paid $49 for an afternoon tee time. Definitely worth it, even with cart path restrictions and bumpy greens. The course is going to be fantastic in a few more weeks.

Greens were disappointing overall - slow and soft, they appeared a bit thatchy and spongy. Ball did not track well in my opinion.

Saw a punch on 7 green amongst an irate group of Korean patrons....no marshall in sight although they would have been better off with the sheriffs dept patrolling the course......

Played 7/17 with Tony B. - 12:30 start time - 5 hr round. Course is in great shape, fairways lush, rough about 1-3 in, greens smooth and rolling true, about med-fast speed. Fairway bunkers seem to be more like waste bunkers (small rocks, hard pack) but the greensides were fluffy, good sand, seemed to be a little deep, easy to dig under the ball. Customer Service was ok, only saw the cart girl (at) 2nd tee, then never saw her again. Overall a fun day, will go back again.

Fairways are close to a perfect 10, save for some divot damage here and there - really beautiful and healthy. Nice to play from.

Rough is mostly non-existent but spotty where there is some with different kinds of growth and occasional weeds. Sand was nice in the greenside traps but gravelly and thin in the fairways - typical for here. Tees very lush and flat - close to perfect as well.

Greens were very slow for RR - typical downhill putts that you simply wouldn't be able to leave short on a normal day were not making it to the hole. They appeared to have been top-dressed recently and were soft compared to the usual standard here. Fairly smooth but with splotches of poa throughout.

Good deal for the GN discount rate.

Played here on Thursday the 26th. Teed off about 40 minutes after we had arrived at 3 or so. Overall conditions were very good and the pin placements were more difficult than usual. The greens on the front nine were much slower than on the back, I had a 4 foot birdie putt on 10 that I blew past the whole with the same speed. They were also pretty firm but held with a good shot. The tee boxes were very lush and level with the exception of the first two holes of Death Row. Rough was nonexistent but that is how the course is supposed to be played. Fairways were in good shape and people seemed to have filled their divots for the most part. My only complaint is that there were some people that were six people playing together and started cutting and playing random holes on the back side and had to wait on 18 because they were screwing around in the fairway. Finished just as the sun set.

Back again on Friday the 13th of May. Greens and fairways in great condition. The greens have fully recovered from aeration. There is poa annua infiltration on every green; so much that it looks like all poa on nearly every green except 16, which looked spotty and ran slightly quicker. All the greens rolled nicely; a little bumpy at times but not terrible. The greenside bunkers had great sand. Light in color, soft, and plentiful. Fairway bunkers, not so good. Tee boxes are almost all domed and finding a level lie takes a little thought before you stick your tee in. A couple of fairways had severe divot damage in the typical landing areas. Watch out for your food when you park greenside on 10. There is a squirrel-raven tag team that will pilfer your cart while you go putt. I swear they were working together! I saw them under the big oak with my Lays potato chips; and they weren't just eating one. They had the whole bag. Later, they took Moneysworth's baggie of cigars but they dropped it because it wasn't food.

Course in good shape overall - playing firm and fast so check your distances off the tee and account for a lot of roll-out on the fairways.

Course in good shape overall - playing firm and fast so check your distances off the tee and account for a lot of roll-out on the fairways.

Greens are just about back from aeration and nice and firm - medium-ish speed. Tee boxes a bit lumpy here and there but lush. Sand very full and fluffy. Fairways lush and firm with lots of roll.

Only negative would be the thin rough (not a bad thing perhaps, but without a bit of rough the ball runs out of play a lot into the cabbage). Still a bit dormant and yellow, the lies on the fringes and aprons of the green can be a bit unfair as they are so thin. It's generally not a bump-and-run course so trying to get a LW under the ball when the lies are so tight and firm is not too fun - cost me a few strokes I'm sure.

Overall a very challenging but fun experience.

Played yesterday at 3:30 p.m. Greens continuing to recover from aeration. They were a little on the slow side, and somewhat bumpy. Fairways were pretty nice. A sprinking of sanded divots in the typical landing areas. Greenside bunkers had nice sand, but the fairway bunkers were terrible: little to no fresh sand or decomposed granite mixed with native clays. Other than that, the rest of the course is coming back into it's usual spring/summer green as the rough is starting to green up. The recent rains have given the few creeks a little running water; it was nice to see the water running clear and clean. This course is usually a great deal for locals. It is still really challenging after playing many rounds here over the years. I just wish they would widen the fairways and rough like Angeles National did.
