I played yesterday morning. I arrived at 6:15 am, figuring I could get it done in time before going to work (the first time I’ve ever tried that.) I asked if the course was pretty open and I was just told that I wasn’t the first out there. He really should have mentioned that I was going to be following 2 fivesomes. When I realized this on the first tee I told myself that if it took too long, I would just bail after the 6th hole. Luckily, both groups were all no-nonsense players who didn’t waste any time. I did wait a bit on each hole but it turned out ok and I finished in 90 minutes. This is a fun little 9 hole course with 7 par 3s and 2 par 4s that can easily played in 3 for anyone that hits longer than I do. Despite its short length, it is quite challenging. Water comes into play on 2 holes and there is a ravine to carry on the 9th. The super short 4th hole (88 yds) has the trickiest green on the course. If your shot doesn’t hold, it will take off like a bullet and run off the left side into the creek. The course conditions have been slowly, but steadily improving over the past few months. There is new netting in several places. All of the orange trees that were between holes 1 & 6 and between 7 & 9 have been removed, giving the course a much cleaner look. The rough was in better condition than I’m used to seeing here. This was very helpful in the area left of the first green where I seem to always land. It was thick enough to keep my ball from rolling into the ravine, but my ball sat up well for an easy chip onto the green. The fairways, while a patchwork of different grasses and colors, had decent coverage. The tee boxes were chewed up but were level and big enough to be able to find a spot to hit from. The bunkers were thin and damp but I really didn’t mind – it’s good for practice. The greens were nice- soft, smooth, a bit slow, with surprisingly few unrepaired ball marks. I guess this is another advantage of early morning play. I really enjoyed playing before going to work. It put me in a good mood for the rest of the day. I’ll be back!
