The bad news is the greens were just aerated; the good news they offered the $99 twilight rate all day which is a pretty good bargain for this course. The course is beautiful and in good shape (except greens of course). It is short with mostly narrow fairways which demand that you leave the driver in the bag. The course is worth playing if you can find the rare bargain. One oddity is you have to drive to the range which you pass a 1/4 mile before the course entrance so stop there before checking in.

Played as a Threesome at 1.35 pm for the twilight rate of $135. Well worth the green fee.
From the valet service to the proshop staff and the cart barn guys, it was good service all around. The golf cart had many good features, like GPS, a carpet padding for the 2 sides to put handphones and other stuff, spikes to clean the cleats, 2 water bottles in a box of ice and ball and club washer. Now, thats service. The on course service included guys coming around to clean clubs after nine holes, sweeping away access dirt on the cart and providing more water if you need.
The golf course was in great shape despite rain the day before. Fairways and greens were a little damp and soft. The course layout is fantastic. The back to back par 3s along the ocean was beautiful. Never seen anything like it. The course though short from the blues or the tips, offered a great challenge. I think the best feature of the golf course is the relatively wide fairways because you do not feel congested on the tee box and when you are on the fairway, it seems like you have the golf course alone with your foursome as you have so much space around. A very relaxing round of golf and Pelican Hill is undisputedly the best public golf course in Orange County in terms of quality.

A truly wonderful course, but...... is it worth the $$? The only real consistant condition which always seems to prevail, is the poor attitude of many (not all, but most) of the staff.

I used to play this course around 2 times a month before I joined a private club. I decided to go back for old times sake. Boy was I disappointed. The fairways were extremely soggy with many bare spots. Greens were just ok. To top it off, the fog didn't burn off until the back nine. I won't be going back for a while.

Played for the first time on the 17th of January, it was amazing. Caution on the 5th hole, watch out for the drunk construction workers across the canyon, yelling at you on your back swing. With that said....it is a must play course....even considering the price!
