Played the Goose in my regular weekly match. Played from the blue-tees today - (not normal for us) - it really changes the complexity of the golf course. Tee-to-green the course may just be in the best condition ever. The greens are still a little slow - but they roll true. Finished in four hours (not bad for a Saturday morning) - it could have been faster - but the two guys they put us with insisted on looking for their obviously lost ball on one hole. While they were doing that - I looked and found a dozen golf balls in the weeds to the left of the 16th gold tee-box. Most of the balls were pretty good, once I cleaned 'em up!! Not a bad haul for five-minutes work. The 18th Hole at Goose Creek is, IMHO, still the best finishing hole in So. Cal. when a match is on the line! It takes real cashews to go for the pin over the water from the blue tee position. I got on with a three-wood today. The wind was just starting to blow. Great staff!! The had overcharged me last week (charged me for a cart when I walked) - no problem - they refunded me my $10.00 - no questions asked, just on my say-so. Try *that* at Wilson, Harding or Rancho!!! Long live the Goose!!!

I had not played here for about 4 months and the place is in great shape. Teed off at 655 am and back in by 1020. It helped to be with guys who hit the ball well. Get out early before the heat and the wind and you will have a fun round.

As always, the Goose was GREAT! Greens were a little slow, but overall they were very smooth and people seem to be more religious about fixing ball marks. I've never seen to course look so good. Th... Continue »

As always, the Goose was GREAT! Greens were a little slow, but overall they were very smooth and people seem to be more religious about fixing ball marks. I've never seen to course look so good. There was one hole on the front....I think it was #5 - short dog-leg left with the driving-range out-of-bounds to the right - anyway - the course has had problems with these feral (wild) pigs that live in the river bed - the pigs had recently torn up a good section of the right-side rough - looks like a "Roto-Tiller" dug it up. Strange, eh? Other than that - it was wonderful as always.....4 hours total for 18-holes walking. Not bad!

Doesn't anybody else play the "Goose" ?? Am I the only one ?? Played 6/6 - same as always - a great course and a great deal. Oh - I ran into the rudest golfer out there I have seen in 33 years of playing golf!! He and his partner cut in front of us on the 7th hole - within two holes he was hacking it up and spending 10 minutes looking for lost balls and buying beer from the beer cart girl. We said "C'mon, guys - pick it up!", as nice as can be abter they fell a hole behind. The one guy went ballistic!!! Swore like a sailor, managed to piss everybody off - including the group in front of them at the turn. Even the Marshall was scared of the guy!

Next time, I bring a gun!

Well - it's the middle of May - and - it's allllmost back to perfect. Greens still a little bumpy (as of 5/10) and unpredictable - but the plugging and sanding has healed nicely - and - balls hit high, with soft six-irons don't scoot off the back of the green like they used to before the aeration. Overall - the Goose is still my favorite course - (wellllll....that could have something to do with the fact that I shot a 79 and a 78 last two rounds there - and - I'm a 14.5!!) Not for long, eh?
