There are three or four different kinds of grass growing in the greens. This makes them very uneven and even bumpy. I don't know if it's the time of year or what, but they were the worst I have seen them in the 10 or so times I have played this course over the past 8 years.
Otherwise the course was great as always.

Had a 7:16 tee time on 2/8. Course played at a decent pace (finished in 4hrs). The course was in decent conditions. Only complaints were that the greens were a tad bumpy (compared to the prev times I played there) and the sand traps were packed on a few holes. Also the wind kicked up at around 10:00 and made the last 5 holes pretty darn tough. Otherwise the fairways were in pretty good condition as were the tee boxes.

Course is still as beautiful as ever and in terrific shape. They were one of the few courses that over seeded this year and it shows. Just beautiful views and this morning the weather was perfect, no wind at all and for $40 you can't beat it.

Somehow they keep this place in great shape, have the staff always appearing to be happy to see you and all that makes for an enjoyable day. The course isnt extra tough but it is VERY interesting and LOTS of fun. You can get in trouble but you wont care as the place is just fun to play. We will be back very soon.

Played Tuesday 1-17-12 and I just have to say that (with the Birdie card discount) this Course is so worth the drive and bucks. Greaaaaat shape and super great greens. A must play for every golfer. By the way, buy a yardage book. This will enable you to see the landing areas better. This is probably the greenest Couse is the I.E. right now

Played this morning as the first group at 6:37am. Took us (3some) 3hr & 15min to finish. We used our players card, which is basically a $40 round, but the course is worth $90. I started playing there last year and I believe it's time to submit an overdue review.

This is by far my favorite course within an hour drive from the SGV. I'm so sick and tired of playing the packed, beat up city courses with horrible customer service and 5hr+ rounds. Customer service is superb at Oar Quarry. From the pick-up at the parking lot to the club cleaning and drop-off to your car after the round, we've always been greeted with a smile and sincerity. And guys, please tip the boys when you're receiving this level of services. The restaurant is above average, and again, service was unparallelled. The restroom was nice and clear, with lotion and mouth wash, which I never used but they showed management's commitment to treating the players right. The pro shop wasn't well stocked, with limited selection of mechanizes. I'm a cheapskate and never buy anything from pro shops anyways, so that didn't bothered me.

On to the course. I simply love the layout. Every single hole has its own characteristics, like the signature par3 #14 hugged by the huge quarry next to the lake, to the uphill par4 #17 with beautiful fairway bunkers. It's simply not one of those courses that you play and forget. For winter condition, this course played great. I was at Los Serranos last week, and that place was DRY, with bare fairways and browning everywhere. The fairways at Oak Quarry was lush and I didn't see any brown spots. The Par4 and par5 tee boxes were kind of beat up, but you're teeing the ball up anyways, so it didn't bother me. I had no problem finding a good lie at the par3 tee boxes. The greens were receptive, quite fast, and rolled true. They were kind of patchy (color spots. I have no idea how they form) but didn't seem to affect my putts at all. The bunkers had plenty of sand in them and were consistent throughout the course.

I hope management keeps things up and not fail like Lost Canyon (according to reviews here). I look forward to many more great rounds there.

Teed off this morning at 7:15 and finished around 11:30. Course is in great shape. Greens look bad but are really smooth and fast, about 10 on the stimp according to starter but I bet closer to 12. You had to stay below the hole. Wind made the course a little harder than normal but not that much, wind was steady. I would put this course on par with Goose Creek and for $40 will be back soon.

I have to say, this has to be one of my favorite courses. It does treat me very well and allows me to score decently. I did have two issues, 1. the sand traps. These have always been an issue as they are usually thin and hard, and inconsistent. Definitely cost me a couple of strokes. 2. I love the contour of the greens here, but they were really off this time around. Sure, they were quick, but they were also bumpy and not rolling true. A couple of times the ball would just have a enough roll to reach the hole and then get knocked off line at the last second due to the grain of the grass. They needed to be cut and rolled. This too cost me a couple of strokes, birdie scores as that. Other than that, the fairways were in grrrreat shape. I love this course and will always go back more than a couple times a year. It's worth purchasing the Advantage card for this place.
