Played today 3-10. Due to the aerated greens, the ratings of this course is low. They aerated two weeks ago, so greens have decent amount of sand on them. They probably have more sand on the greens then the actually bunkers.LOL.(I always see people complaining about the lack of sand in the bunkers)Just make a steep swing inside the bunker and the ball comes out easily with alot of spin. Overall, the course is a great place to play with alot of signature holes. Just wait a couple of weeks for the greens to heal.

Played on monday 02/21/11, tees, fairways & greens are as near perfect as it gets, this time of year. The bunkers are another story. I know it had rained saturday, but the traps have had no sand for a long time, like playing from hard pan. Over all a great day at a great course. This place Rocks.

Certainly one of the most picturesque golf courses I have ever played on around the world.
The short par 4 4th and signature par 3 14th are two highlights and two of the best looking golf holes I've ever played.
The greens however are tough. Even for an experienced golfer such as myself, I found the break difficult to read and the speed hard to gauge. I was told that everything breaks towards the huge canyon to one side of the course. I couldn't bring myself to allow for that considering the slope of the greens. I therefore ended up with about 3 or 4 three-putts during my round which hurt my score a bit. Watch the speed and try to keep the ball below the hole! Some of my putts were also a bit bumpy but that's my only drama with this magnificent golf course.
I'll be back for sure.
Even from the black tees, this is not an overly long course (helped in part by dramatic elevation changes) but accuracy is essential with a lot of balls potentially lost. If your driver is off, you'd better have a solid two iron or hybrid to get it out there 200 yards, otherwise it could be a tough day.
I was striking it extremely well and still barely broke 80. Local knowledge required on many holes.
Worth the drive from LA, ten-fold!

Overall, course is in very nice shape. Played from the tips so the tees were very lush; fairways were generally lovely as was the rough - just the occasional barer area or un-repaired divots. Rough was lush and got your attention but not too penal. Fringes and swales around the greens were truly immaculate. Sand was iffy as other reviewers have stated. Thin, hard-packed and gravelly, it makes it difficult to play from as some of the traps are very deep so you need to get the club well under the ball to get it elevated.

As for the greens....they were kind of funky. At least 4 different types of growth on them ranging from dark green, light green, something sprouting yellowish buds and a fair amount of downright crusty areas that were very dry. Net result, the ball didn't track too well and speed was inconsistent. Curious, overall.

The course offers lots of options off the tee which I like - also good shot values on the approach. With the greens you have to be on the right quadrant to have a legitimate chance.

Got a special on golfnow for 39 which you can't beat.

Played 1/18/11. Always enjoy this course. Great layout, scenic and unique. Perfect weather conditions on the day I played (36 holes). Wind was down and warm day. I have played here under extremely windy conditions, so getting calm conditions prompted the second 18. Greens are nice, although a bit bumpy, at time, and typically, on the slow side. Overall, greens were very playable. Fairways were thin in spots, but again playable. Sorry to say the bunkers were unplayable. Extremely hard and packed sand / dirt in almost all bunkers I found. Some of the bunkers here have very high faces and are quite deep, so trying to play out was nearly impossible. They really need some work....just add sand! Otherwise, a great venue and very enjoyable. Staff and service was great. If you haven't played here, it is a must play in SoCal.

Since learning about this golf course, I wanted to play this course for a long time, and got a chance to play on 12/27, since I had a reason to go out to Riverside. The only thing I could say all day was 'wow'. The course is immaculate. I thought that the rain would make the course saturated, but it was really hard to find a place that was saturated. The fairway is lush, the rough is in great condition, and the greens were fast and rolled true. The only thing that was not worked on were the bunkers, still wet and pretty hard. Customer service was great. The guy at the golf shop was working really hard (The phone never stopped ringing!) and was very professional. Saw the cart girl several times on the course. For the price we paid on golfnow ($20 discount) and the 1 hour drive, this was worth every penny that I spent. Took a lot of pictures and also got a birdie on the famous 14th! Would definitely come back if I have a reason to drive down to Riverside.

After checking the doppler today, my bud and I figured the current storm should ease up around noon, so we packed our raingear, got lucky and only had some light rain with which to contend. I mentioned Greenskeeperdotorg to the starter and got a comp round ... naw, just kidding, but we did book with Golfnow and saved $20 apeice. The course actually drains quite well, only had to take casual water a couple times. Played in about 3 hours w/no one on the course. Greens were cut before the storm and rolled true ... surprisingly fast given the soggy conditions Greenside bunkers were simply diabolical, hard and wet, only perfect contact would get you close to the pin. Once the course drys out, the fairways should be flawless, green and lush. If you haven't been here, it's up and down canyon golf broken into segments, all with a bit of a different flair, and no parallel fairways. I enjoy the layout here at the Quarry, some semi-tight, shorter holes but forgiving for the most part. Just stay out of the bunkers cuz they can be brutally firm. Has some very challenging par 3's, too. If you can keep it in play, this is a course you can go low on. I'll be back soon.

One of my absolute favorite courses. To this day I am amazed by this layout. It’s remarkable that a golf course could be built and maintained so well within the rocky terrain of the old quarry. I understand they spent quite a lot of money on top soil and TNT to shape some of the holes. Hole 14 is indeed a jaw dropping par 3 worth the price to play the course. If I could describe Oak Quarry's layout in one word: BOLD. Regarding conditions, with exception to the sand traps which were thin and firm, the rest of the course is close to immaculate conditions as of 12/10/2010. The bag drop, cart girl, proshop, starter and after dinning service were terrific. Food afterward delicious. Overall one of the best golf experience I’ve had all year.
