The area of north San Diego county has a lot of nice courses. Castle Creek is unique in that it is very mature. There is a little bit of everything here from tight fairways to forced carries. Don't play the blacks unless you can carry it 230 yards. (14hole)
There is a very big difference in the greens between morning and afternoon. They don't take a lot of traffic very well and get bumpy.

I agree!!!! These are officially the worst greens I have ever seen in Southern California!! I don't like to see anybody get fired, but - they need to hire a new greenskeeper!! There is a "fungus among us", folks! The greens are devastated by the creeping crud, and they are just a mess! They give you a $10.00-off coupon for "the next time you play" - but it will be a cold day in HELL before I waste another day at this dog-track! Can I say anything good? Well - the fairways were O.K. - but the greens were so bad that NOTHING could make it worth the price. Even for free, I'd have to think about it! UG-LY!!!!

Should be free till they fix the greens, 30% of all greens are bare. Could at lease inform you about the condition of greens before you set a tee time.

Castle Creek is a quality golf course and a good test for all players. It has several sets of tees to accomodate players of every level. The greens as of this date (4-25-05) are not perfect, a few have some bumps from recent aeration, but they are rolling pretty true and will be perfect in 2-3 weeks time. The fairways are in terrific condition and great to hit off. Hit one extra club into the 9th and 18th greens and make sure you keep it in the fairway on 10,11 and 12 as they are very tight.
Pace of play was excellent (4 hours total) and the after 12pm rate is $30 to walk and $37 to ride, very good value for a quality course.

Played this course mid-week and had a very enjoyable outing. It was my first time playing the course and this is my first feedback. I think this course has gotten a bad rap from some of the previous feedback entries. The new management must have made some major improvements because the course was in very good shape and the staff was friendly and courteous. The greens were challenging and in good condition. As noted before, some, but not all of the bunkers were dirt rather than sand, but hey, you shouldn't be in there anyway. I had a Red Dot discount coupon (highly recommended if you can play during the week) so two of us played for $16 each with cart. That had to be one of the best deals around. Even at the full whack mid-week price of about $40, this course is a great value.
