Played on Sunday, using the 2 for 1 coupon. Cannot say enough good things about this course. First of all this is a private club just recently opened to the public due to bank issues. Don't really know how much longer they will be available for public play, but if your in the area, take advantage of this course now. First rate clubhouse, restaurant, grass driving range, basically just what you would expect from a country club. It's a little out of the way if you live in L.A. or the Valley areas. But for inland empire or the OC, not too bad a drive. Now the course. What can I say that hasn't been said by the other 2 reviewers. This course is only 7 years old, but seems like it has been around for 20 or 30 years. Very mature trees and landscaping. I found the undulations in the greens caused a few 3 puts. And the traps. although they looked great, did not have enough sand in them. We played from the white tees, only because that's what I do when I play a new course, and with only 2 of us playing, really didn't have a feel for where to hit the ball on a few holes. Next time I play here, and I hope there is a next time, I plan to play from the Blues. Overall a very challenging Golf Course, And one more tip, Don't be above the hole.

Played The Golf Club of California Wednesday and really enjoyed it. As Steve663 stated, I agree, it’s a wonderful layout with all the most difficult holes on the front nine. (I shot 51 – 39) I found the approach shots very demanding with many forced carries, elevation changes, good bunker protection, hazards in play and difficult pin placements to access. The tee shots are very demanding with tight holes and more forced carries. With the layout, something I really like is the course features excellent variety. There are holes well suited for left to right or right to left players. It won’t favor a particular type of player. You need to bring all of our game to have any chance to score well. I found the most demanding parts of the course were the greens and approach shots.

Something you should know…The Golf Club of California was once a private course that fell on hard economic times and closed its doors. Recently those doors have been reopened and now it’s open for public play along with being a simi-private facility. Amazing is considering the course went without watering for a long period of time while closed, now it is already in good shape and looks to be improving. Overall, the conditions were on the dry side, but nothing that is worth complaining about – IMO. The greens were running around an 8 on the stimp and held shots nicely…but man are they undulating. The fairways had no bare spots but were dry and tight. I can see them improving quickly with more water. The rough was mostly lush greenside but at times thin directly adjacent to the fairways. No big deal. The sand traps where in excellent shape with good quality sand and well kept. The tee boxes where on the dry side but well groomed. I would certainly say the conditions are good.

Looking back on the all the photos I posted – I really love this course already. I could see myself enjoying round after round out there. It’s a very strong and unique layout that is far from boring…I would recommend this course to anybody.
