Made it out to Ojai Valley Inn for the first time today. Tee time was at 7:20, rode as a single and had pretty much the entire course to myself, finished in under 3 hrs. I caught the twosome ahead of me on hole 16. This place is a really fun and exciting experience, and I cannot wait to go back. As of right now the course is healing from the rains and from the recently punched greens. I would say they are about 80% back to normal but still need some time to be perfect. The water caused some flooding and at times I was in the mud, particularly on hole 13. The rest of the course is in phenomenal shape, a few tee boxes were being worked on but not the ones I was playing from. Just about every hole I saw a maintenance worker, 1 month from now this place is going to absolutely perfect.

For those who have never played it. The Ojai Valley Inn GC is a true turn back in history. Built in 1923, this course and facility turned into an army training ground during WWII. It returned to golf after the war and ever since has attracted families and golfers alike who are looking for a special experience. Much like a meal at a classic old restaurant, this classic golf experience should be on everyones bucket list. It is a par 70, 6292 yard but feels much larger as you often don't see the other holes. The views are stunning at times, especially the "lost holes". There are some long par 3's and some short par 5's. The carts have GPS and are brand new. The practice facility is very nice and a large putting green with undulation and several holes. If I were staying here I would spend some serious time practicing on the range. Yes this course is a resort course, and it feels that way, as you really do struggle to find your way to the actual course.

Pace of play was fantastic we felt like we had the whole course to ourselves. Nice to have a 3’15” round. Great course for a splurge round. Played Friday 2/16/24

Last round of 2022 had me riding the blues this morning 12/30/2022 at the historic Ojai Valley Inn teeing off around 10:10am. I played through 4 foursomes and 1 threesome for a 3 hr POP with a threatening rain chance that never materialized and cloudy skies and no wind. Very comfortable 58 degree day. Thx to Dave and his staff for having me out. OVI has a grass range, seperate chipping/putting area below the range Greens were terrific in the 8/10 range holding shots very softly and rolling beautifully. Fairways were mostly padded mostly lush surfaces with a winter yellow hue that were damp from overnight rains but very playable. Rated 7/10 Tees mostly level, lush and in good shape. It's a shame 18 is not where it usually is. They have the tips[blue tees] playing as a 300 yd par 4 up the hill. Rough was wet and in good shape. Most of the fringes and chipping area just off the greens were soggy more than usual. Rated 6.5/10 Was in greenside bunker on 1 and 7 which had a nice layer base of raked sand . Rated 7/10. Love this place! So many greats have played here. Highly recommended!

Played here today with a friend. We had a 12:50 TeeOff.com "Deal" time for about $78 pp after 20% off promo code. Checked in around 12:10 and were told we could start right away if we wanted to, so we did. This led to crazy weird "tale of two nines" POP. We played the front nine in about 80-90 minutes, but then at the 10th tee, several groups were stacked up. We invited the twosome behind us to join us, which they did, and then the entire back nine was backed up. Overall time on course was still decent at around 4:00 hours, but the back took probably at least an hour longer than the front. Gorgeous day in Ojai with blue skies, big puffy clouds, a slight breeze and temps in the low 70s.

Conditions are very nice. Greens are smooth, medium-fast, and various firmness. Some full shots stopped very quickly while others took a bounce before stopping. Fairways are excellent with great coverage, providing nice lies that really sat up on top of the kikuyu. Rough was a little spottier but mostly nice, maybe 2-3 inches deep and could be somewhat penal because it's thick kikuyu. Blue tee boxes were mostly good; a couple were not. I was in two bunkers and they were both good.

Second time playing here. The setting is hard to beat and the course is fantastic. I love the first seven holes, then 8 through 14 are a little more pedestrian, then 14-18 are great again. The short par-3 8th is really weird with a different type of grass on the green than the rest of the course, rolling completely differently, too. Luckily we didn't have to play the neutered version of 18; the tees were at the actual 402-yard tee box. Definitely recommended at the rate I got.

NOTE: Aeration begins in a couple days.

Rode the blues today 2/5/2022 at 12 noon on a glorious weather day for golf. 70 degrees no wind and a POP of 4 hrs 30 minutes. Both the Inn and golf course was thriving today. Such a great setting to play golf. I was joined by a nice single and a nice twosome all riding. All grass range and putting/chipping green down below the range. Conditions were similar to my round here just before the holidays 6 weeks ago. Greens were in great shape! True quick greens that rolled pure. Only hole 6 and 8 were a little shaggy but the other 16 greens were in the 8.5 to 9 out of 10 range. Highlight of the course. Fairways were a mix color wise between green and yellow and had a nice padded base to hit from. Rated 6.5/10 Tees were all level and in good shape. Some of the par 3s on the front had a top dressing of sand which did not effect play. Rated 7/10 Was in 2 greenside bunkers that had darker sand and just enough sand in them. Rated 7/10 Rough was mowed down and in decent shape and playable. Most of the kikuya around the greens that used to be penal looked more manageable. Rated 6.5/10. Love playing here. Ojai Valley Inn Golf Course 12.20.2021 summary. This last Monday, I had the opportunity to play Ojai Valley Inn with my buddy Gary. After being pamper playing Rams Hills, The Classic Club and Desert Willow last weekend we wanted to play a golf course almost a 1/3 of what the above course were. Our Tee time was at 11:40 but we were able to tee off at 10:40am instead. The golf course was busy but not that much. We finish our round in 4.5 hours.

The golf course is in decent and had a great time. The fairways were dormant for the winter and their were areas in the fairways that it was to wet and muddy. The tees were semi level but I felt that I always had a place to place my ball and hit it. I played from the white tees and had a great game. The rough no comment as there was none. The sand bankers were decent, in my opinion they need a little bit more sand. The greens were in good conditions with the exception of hole 15th and 17th they for sure need a TLC.

Other then having the driving range close, a little to much water and muddy; I had a great time playing Ojai Valley Inn Golf Course. As always, customer services an A+. Over all a rate this course 7.5 in all.

Rode the blues this morning 12/20/2021 with my buddy Pedro teeing off around 10:45am and coming in with a Pop around 4 hours. Thanks to Ojai Valley for having us out. Friendly staff in the proshop and cart staging area, Range was closed this morning due to frost delay but they have an awesome chipping/putting area down the hill just right of the first tee. Weather was ideal around 60 degrees at tee off and no wind the entire day just perfect scoring conditions. The Inn looked packed but not to many golfers on the course. Glad to see the Inn doing well. Lots of history here with names like Vardon, Hogan, Palmer and Trevino gracing the grounds. Very peaceful setting to play golf especially on the front nine which is shorter and winds its way through a Grove of trees. The back is longer with 3 par 3s over 200 from the blues. Greens were in beautiful shape other than 6 and 8 which were patchy and bumpy. The other 16 greens were pristine, quick and rolling beautiful. Holding shots nicely. For sure the star of the course. Rated 8.5/10 We never had a bad lie in the Fairways but they were more firm than lush and were very playable. Rated 7/10 Tees were level with minimal damage on the par 3s, Rated 7/10 Rough was cut very low almost the height of the fairways and was more thin than lush. Good shape. Rated 7/10. Was not in any Fairway bunkers but was in 2 greenside bunkers that were raked and had nice fluffy sand on the top and firmer underneath. Good shape rated 7/10. Always enjoy my rounds here. Don't let the 6300 yds fool you from the tips. 3 tough par 3s and a couple tough par 4s. Love playing here and with the great Soule Park so close getting 36 in on a summer day is the call if you are close to Ojai. Recommended.

Found a 12:50 teeoff.com deal for $70 on Sat. I had never played Ojai Valley in so I decided to pull the trigger. I arrived around 12:15 and parking is a little bit of an issue at the resort. I found a spot near the valet but had to walk quite a bit to the golf shop. There were shuttles around but I missed them. When I arrived at the starter he said that he wanted to send me out right away and I obliged. The range was open but off mats so I didn't mind not warming up. We started on hole 10 becauase of a tournament and I was not impressed for the first 4 holes. I thought it was just a basic course and nothing special. Then the rest of the course got into the trees, valleys, and canyons. Man were those holes spectacular.

Course was in good shape I would say its a 7/10. Greens were very nice and ran quick, there was a lot of unrepaired ball marks which is typical on a resort course. Dang rich people too lazy to fix their marks. Fairways were lush and cut short, mostly green with just a few browning patches here and there. Tee boxes were adequate but I noticed the blue and white tees were in the same area almost every hole. Sand was a dark brown color but very good. I had 3 plugged shots that really make you think when planning your approach to the greens. Fairways bunkers were a little firmer so no issues there. The there is the Rough and I can only think of one work for it Kikuyu!! Looks like they gave up fighting the kikuyu grass in the rough as a majority of the rough is nasty kikuyu. However it was all cut to normal length so as long as you knew what you were doing its a non issue.

Overall this is a wonderful resort and I would play here again if 1. I was in the area and 2. There was a deal. POP was around 4:45 waiting on almost every tee shot including 2 groups on each par 3. Carts are new with shar experience gps although both battery lights in our group started flashing on hole 16 so they barely make two rounds in a day. I recommend playing here if you have the chance but remember its a 3 hour drive back to OC.

Our Saturday Golf Friends group played Ojai Valley Inn on Saturday 9/4/21. If you have never played the "Inn" you are missing out. It is one of Ventura Counties Gems!! We play there often and just love OVI. The course is always in excellent shape and the greens are fair. Not super fast and definitely not slow. Only one green is in "not so good" shape with rough patches and has been sanded. Hole 8 par 3. I'm sure it will be back to normal soon. For a Saturday , play time was quick, 4.5 hours. The staff at OVI are always super nice and helpful and hanging out at Jimmy's Pub after the round is always a treat!!
