Played Piper yesterday, friday afternoon, teed off at two in the afternoon and fininshed with just enough light.

In all the times I have played the Piper i have never had a day where it was so still, there was not a breath of wind. Perfect playing conditions. The recent rains showed as I have never seen the course that lush before, but it played LONG. There were a few bare spots and mushy area, but every course has them.

Course was in tip top conditions. Greens were slow compared to how they normally roll, im talking like 10 rather than 12 or 13 which they normally roll. Still they were, as always tour quality greens. It's a treat to be able to roll a putt and see it track on it's line.

The rough was very lush and pretty long. Im a scratch golfer, but had trouble because im not a long hitter and the beuatiful conditons because of the rains made it play a couple hundred yards longer overall. But if thats the only complaint then it's just more of a reason to get a time and play one of the jewels of California

PLAYED ON 11-12-08. TODAY WAS BASICALLY THE PERFECT DAY TO PLAY GOLF. NO WIND AND BEING 70 ISH DEGREES. CONDITIONS OF THE COURSE IS GREAT. HAVENT PLAYED A COURSE THIS IMMACULATE IN YEARS. THERE ARE SOME BALD SPOTS IN THE FAIRWAY, BUT EVERY COURSE HAS THEM. THE GREENS ARE PERFECT. VERY FAST AND SMOOTH. PGA TOUR QUALITY GREENS RUNNING AT A 12 ON THE STIMP METER. VIEWS HERE ARE EXCELLENT. VERY COMPARABLE TO TORREY PINES, PELICAN HILL. I ACTUALLY LIKE THE SANDPIPER BETTER THAN THOSE I MENTIONED. VERY ENJOYABLE DAY, WILL DEFINITELY PLAY HERE AGAIN

The weather was perfect with a light breeze, golf course played great, but i must comment on the greens-what kind of bikini wax do they use, those greens are the best i've ever played, smooth and true. I defeinetly appreciate having the Piper in my backyard, a must play if you haven't before.

Just played it 10-7-08. The course was challenging and in good shape, weather perfect, staff very nice and it was a fun outing. They were doing work on the fairways which was a noise nuisance and obstruction at times. You're paying a lot for the ocean, coastal and mountain views mostly. I took some incredible pictures that will make great screen savers on my PC's and make my friends in the Midwest USA envious.

I had been interested in playing this course for years, but was always put off by the greens fee. Stayed in SB a couple of weeks ago and played twilight, and it was an outstanding experience. While some of the holes have strange layouts, the great majority are beautiful and very challenging. The ocean holes are gorgeous. The one disappointment was the course upkeep. The greens had numerous ball marks and there were some dead areas on the fairways. The course layout more than made up for it, and this is going to be on my 'favorites' rotation for some time to come.

I live in Goleta right behind the course and played the course last thursday Aug 28th. I've played the course dozens of time and this is the first time I think I was not as pleased with the upkeep. A few holes have multiple brown spots and many of the early players were not fixing their divots which made it a bit frustrating. Overall, the service was incredible and the weather/views were immaculate.

I will play again this weekend and will give a new update!

Spectacular! If you wanted to play a classic California costal course, this is it. Even though only about half the holes include views of the ocean the inland holes are still beautiful, well-crafted layouts. I played the up (silver) tees (10 handicap). The length, from the back tees, is only for truly advanced players. Don't let your macho get the better of you. Changes in elevation and hole layout require really thoughtful club and swing selection. Wind is a definite factor, at least in the afternoon, when I played (Twilight rate). Before you waste a truly ridiculous amount of money at an ocean-side gimmick like Trump National, get in the car and play Sandpiper.

Played on Sunday 7/20 with friends from Arizona. 1st time I've played this course and it was great. Although it was misty and a little wet on the front 9, it got beautiful in the pm. Really great holes along the ocean. Greens were really tough. Have to stay below the hole to score. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Very good experience.
