Walked the golds this afternoon 12/22/25 at 12:10pm with my buddy Mark, his buddy Kyle and a nice single Ed out from the Midwest. Very little wind today under partly cloudy skies and cooler temps for Goleta around 60 degrees. Met by nice proshop and cartbarn staff. Used there putting green which mirrors speed on the course well. Our pop was 4 hrs 35 minutes finishing with about 15 minutes to spare. Greens were in great shape rolling very smoothly and were very firm above the hole. Greens held iron approaches so just a beautiful combination. So these are what pga tour speed greens are like 12 stimp and pure glass Rated 8.5/10 Fairways were in good to great shape with only minor portions wet/muddy. About 95 percent of every Fairway was perfect. Rated 8.5/10 Tees very lush, some divot damage on par 3s and mostly all level. Rated 7/10 Rough just lining the Fairways in great shape. 9/10 Was only in one bunker right greenside on #14 that was nicely raked, contained just enough sand and had that wet brown look and texture that all the bunkers have here. One of my favorite courses in socal. Highly recommended!!

This review a little late but short. Out on Friday 10/24 at 1:30, as a single joining an amiable threesome, all playing the silver tees. No issues with teeing grounds, fairways were generally fine, a little on the tight side and some thin patches that were scattered about. Rough is hard to grade because not far off the fairway it can be anything from a dirt patch, to cut down, straw-like grass, to varying degrees of thick green stuff. Bunker sand was slightly heavier grade but clean and in good shape. Green surrounds tended to be a little thicker while the lead-up fairway shots tight. Greens were quick and appropriately challenging. On some holes, even a light touch from above the hole would still leave a 6+ foot come back. Once dialed in, I really enjoyed them. It was the perfect day for Sandpiper. Sunny, warmish day with minimal wind that died down to nothing by the end of the round. Pace was slow at @4.75 hours but left the 17th green with the setting sun splitting the horizon. Finished 18 at dusk. I'm not here often and it was all I could reasonably ask for.

Sandpiper was excellent, challenging, and testing! Played longer due 10-15 mph winds and the heavy marine layer. Pin placements were brutal at times. Apparently the Greenskeeper wanted to take it out on The Monday Golfers.


Tee Boxes: Level and green, no damage. Condition good with limited divot damage from the day.


Fairways: Green, lush, and defined from rough. Condition good with some limited areas being too wet or too dry.


Greens: Green, medium-fast in speed, with softness. Speed about an 11. Condition excellent.


Sand: flooded with water in several bunkers or rock hard. Below average condition due to flooding or dryness. Not sure what happened to the bunkers, no bueno!


Rough: very well maintained and defined, about 3 – 5 inches. Condition excellent. Very grabby.


Water Hazards: Very scenic on Hole 18.


Waste Areas: Waste areas were maintained lower than usual and cut down. Offered little to no recovery potential. Condition good.


Driving Range: one of the best grass ranges you can find in California. Condition excellent.


Practice Putting Green: excellent condition but speed much faster than the golf course. It runs at 12 to 12.5.


Sandpiper was again amazing, other than bunkers. This is such a great course and always a treat to play! Endorsed!

Walked the golds this afternoon 7/14/25 teeing off just before 2pm with my buddy Mark. Pop was 4 hrs 10 minutes under beautiful skies on the front nine around 70 degrees turning to a colder damp foggy back nine with a nice marine layer.

Sandpiper remains in good shape with just a few blemishes from the last round out here 2 months ago.

Fairways still in very nice shape. There are several sections that have dried out in most Fairways but would say 80% nice and 20% dry. Rated 7.5/10

Greens were in fabulous shape. Quick, pure holding shots nicely. Perfect combination. Rated 9/10.

Rough in great shape just off the fringes and fairways at times overwatered near the greens. Rated 8.5/10

Was in no Fairway bunkers and in 2 greenside bunkers. Sand was a clay like wet more hardpan surface. There is sand in them but they need to be raked to get a fluffier texture. Poor link of the course.

Rated 5/10

Tees mainly all level with some usual divot damage on the par 3s.

Good test of golf from the golds or blacks. Course plays fair and had added length with the lingering marine layer today.

Highly recommended!

Played early last week as a twosome for twilight teeing off around 3:40 and finishing in about 4 hours and 45 minutes with just enough light to see last shot. Greens were in pretty good shape rolling medium/fast with an occasional bump, but that looked to be mostly foot traffic from teeing of so late. Rough was generally in good condition, varying in different heights from 3 inches to just barely longer than fairways. Was in one fairway bunker on 15 that had a good thin layer of sand. Fairways for the most part were in good shape with a few minor thin spots and some areas that had been a little bit over watered. Tee boxes were cut tight and level. Overall good conditions. Only complaint would be they need a Marshall, with an eightsome in front of us slowing us down, luckily the sixsome behind us never caught up to us.

Walked the golds on Cinco De Mayo this afternoon teeing off around 1:40pm with my buddy Mark. Pop 4 hrs walking under partly cloudy cooler conditions in the low 60s with maybe a club wind. Very pleasant conditions. Met by Vern in the proshop who is always so friendly. They have an all grass range and a huge very sloped putting green to get players warmed up for their round.

The conditions at Sandpiper are very lush and awesome.

Fairways were close to pga standards in 95% of the fairways. Perfect carpet lies ball sitting up beautiful. They have a couple spots of ground under repair on a couple holes they are working on but I have never seen the fairways better. 9/10

Tees were very lush, mostly all level. 8.5/10

Was in 2 greenside bunkers that had a brown clay like material that had just the right amount of sand. 7.5/10

Rough was very lush just lining the fairways and mowed beautiful. Great shape 9/10. They have grown the rough up between 8/15, 15/16, right of 17, left of 13 and left of 14...it is lost ball city if you spray in those areas at this time which I experienced luckily only once on my tee ball left on 13. For sure makes this course so beautiful on the eyes and adds toughness and POP.

Ending with the greens which were in beautiful shape. Evidence of a small circular punch that really did not effect putting at all. Stimp rating an 11. Greens rating 8.5/10

If you want to challenge yourself under lush conditions and fast sloped greens get out to Sandpiper now.

Made a day trip out to Sandpiper. Have taken over 5 Central Coast golf trips, but have never played Sandpiper. Course is great shape. The greens were a little crusty, but fast and firm at 10/11 on imaginery stimp. Downhillers were scary. POP was 5 hours on a Sunday afternoon. Fairways well maintained and bunkers has plenty of sand. The rough is super penal here. If your crooked off the tee, you will have a hard time finding the ball. We had rough up to our knees at one point. Layout was very unique with some quirky holes around the ocean - Hole 12. However, there were some very memorable ocean holes including 6, 10, 11. Hole 18 is a par 3. Customer service was good in the well stocked pro shop and the snack shop had plenty of well priced goodies. This might be controversial, but I rather play Sandpiper all day long over Torrey Pines South or North. Better layout, way.....better customer service....better ocean views...clean bathrooms. BTW...Underpar has all you can play deal right now...go take advantage of it!

Walked the golds 12/19/24 with my buddy Mark and two of his work colleagues Mike and Kyle who were a pleasure to play with. Our POP was 4 hrs 45 minutes teeing off at 12 noon and finishing with about 15 minutes to spare watching the SB sunset at our backs as we walked back up to the clubhouse. We maybe had a club of wind midway through the front nine that was very mild all day. It was almost 70 degrees as a high just picture perfect SB/Goleta weather with sunny skies. Super friendly staff. We had a driver head fly off on 7 tee for one of our playing partners. He was able to rent a driver at the turn. Cartgirl around several times, very friendly cartbarn staff. Top notch customer service here. They have a very sloped putting green and a grass range. The conditions were very good for December golf. Fairways were really nice besides hole 8 that looked a little drier and thinner than the other 17 holes. All other holes were semi lush to lush with good lies. Rated 8/10 Tees were mostly level, very lush and very soft at times wet. Good shape! Rated 8/10. Rough cut down very low left of 13, left of 14, right of 15, left of 16 and right of 17. This dramatically improves pace and makes the course more manageable if you do happen to spray one which I did once going a little left on 13. The fairway rough just off the fairways inside the cart paths was beautiful lush and around 3 inches thick. Rating that portion of the rough a solid 8.5/10. Was not in any greenside or fairway bunkers but they looked decent maybe a bit thin at times Saving the best for last the greens. They were a solid 12.5 on the stimp. Downhill 15 footers had to be treated as 2 to 3 foot putts to give you an idea. They were rolling very quick and true. One of the main reasons I come out to Sandpiper is to putt these greens. If you can putt these here on a day like today you can putt anywhere. Rated 9.5/10 Highly endorse this track. It is one of Socal's gems.

Played here on 9/25. I would compare this course to Torrey Pines with much better conditions. The scenery is spectacular with a lot of holes with an ocean view. Still no GPS in carts.

Local told us to land all your shots below the pin as any puts above the pin would most likely roll off the greens. They were correct, as the greens were also fast. The rough was not as punishing as the tall grass had dried out and it was easy to find your ball. The fairways were in very nice condition except for some unfilled divots.

Very fun and with spectacular views. Small clubhouse and eatery at the end of the round.
