Played 4/25 in the afternoon. The course is in excellent shape. However, the greens were aerated early in April and are still recovering. They are lush and slower than usual. The greenskeepers are apparently letting them recover before "bikini-waxing" them as usual.
The course is in a spectacular location. The views of the Pacific from the holes by it (especially 11 and 13) are worth the trip.
That said, the $124 green fee in the morning is a bit steep. Wait for the twilight rate even though the wind kicks up in the pm.
I've also heard bad things about the staff lately but I had nothing but good experiences there. (Who knows?)

Played Monday, 10/24. As mentioned in a previous review, some soggy/wet patches on a number of fairways -- enough to warrant mentioning. There were a few thin/bare spots, but not really a lot and nowhere near as common as the wet spots. Otherwise and overall, the fairways had good coverage. A bit harder and thinner with run vs. lush. The greens on the day were arguably unfair. I've never seen faster anywhere and there were holes that any ball set in motion from above the hole that didn't go in the cup would run ten feet past or off the green, whichever came first. Scary fast. Similarly, very hard to hold the green on approach shots. Hit a couple square that ran off the back. Bottom line, a tough course that was playing even tougher on the day. Still a beautiful course and a great time just to be on it playing. While it made scoring tougher, rather than walk away in disgust, I wanted to go back, make adjustments, and take another shot at it. Wish I had that luxury. There was some kind of large group that went off within the hour before we teed off @2:00pm. As a result, the round was slower than I expected and hoped for, but still JUST made it around in time to finish 18 in the dusk. Gorgeous sunset on the second half of the 17th. Twighlight rates currently start at 1:30 and will go to 1:00 at the end of the month. It was a great deal for me since I walked it for $60 and got the 18 in. I was playing with my high-school buddy/best man, in for a cross-country visit, so it was good company on a noteworthy course. Make a few more putts and it's as good as it can get. As if it needs mentioning, the combination of ocean and mountain views and the ocean bluffs-side location make it a special place to play.

Played on Tuesday. Great pace for the round. The greens were immaculate, fast and smooth. There were workers all over the place - cutting lawn, raking traps, fillings in divots. It was kind of annoying but perfectly acceptable since there were so few players on the course. Fairways were good but there was a lot of soggy ground and bare spots here and there. The rough is terrible and very bare in spots.

Customer service was not acceptable as the starter told us they didn't like players to break for lunch at the turn. I wanted to ask why they provide the phone and menu at the 9th tee. Definitely not the service I expect at a course like Sandpiper.

Overall a great place to play. It's not my home course as I feel there are far better values out there but it's a beautiful course that is enjoyable to play every now and then.

Played 7/22 as a tournament. Beautiful golf course. Weather was GREAT, compare to over 100 at LA. Front nine was nice and two of the holes have beautiful ocean view. But back nice was Great, with beautiful scenic ocean views on most of the holes. Regardless how you are playing, you will definitely enjoy this golf course. Fairway greens are thin and great for second shots. Greens are Firm and Fast. Down hill putts were killer. Hard to judge the speed of down hills putts. Overall, Great course - Must play course. Like to go back again soon. Thumbs UP!

Played 7/22, sat. beautiful day. low 80's, wind was mild. Course in excellent shape. Greens lightning fast as usual. Missed 3ft putt that broke 3ft for birdie on 18 to break 80. They cut down the weeds on the back nine... I mean mowed down and trampled, so that it's basically nonexistent. So if you go into these weeds, you can find your ball 90%of the time, vs 0% before. Interesting. Of course, the one time I went in, I couldn't find it. But this affected at least 7 holes on the back. anyways, if any course is worth the $150 green fee, this would be it. and I don't say that ever.

Great views, interesting holes pleasurable experience. Was a bit disappointed with the greens. Although I expected FAST, I was surprised with the mediocre condition. They were very bumpy and many areas had barely any grass. The rough was tall just off the putting surface so ups and downs were rare. Played at the twilight rate (let me go out early at 1:30) for a green fee of $75. Round took about 3 1/2 hours. Don't think I would fork over the full price of $135.

One thing to keep in mind while playing this course is that the stunning ocean views are worth the round regardless of what kind of shape the course is in. That being said, I was very pleased with every aspect of the course except for the greens. On of the employees told us that they have really firmed up the greens to try to beef up their stature with elite players. However, by beefing up the greens, they were like putting on cement. The ball would roll for miles, and your second putt would be from San Luis Obispo. 3 putts are extremely common, and most people will have a 4 putt (or worse, if you haven't picked up your ball by then). However, like I said before, the ocean views made the green frustration fade away.
