Was invited out this afternoon 2-25-17 by my buddy Pedro's friend who works at Tierra Rejada. He got Pedro, my buddy Matt and I out for $25.00 at 1:44pm riding. We got 17 holes in riding the blues before dark on a very cold and breezy afternoon. We had a great time. The course really held the rains and water great. This is the nicest that I have seen Tierra Rejada this early in the year. I drive by this course daily and you can tell just by driving by that the rains have really helped make the rough and fairways lush.

The fairways were semi to very lush--some great lies in the fairways. Rated 8-10

The tees were lush, mostly level with only divot damage on the par 3's. Rated 8-10

The greens held irons nicely and were soft on approach. Some poa is creeping into these greens. I thought they putted slower than normal but were in good shape. Rated 7.5-10.

Was in one greenside bunker that contained soft thick sand and was raked beautifully. Very easy to hit out of.

Some of the rough on the back bordering holes is very long and thick and balls can sit down. We could not find 2 balls that each of my buddies hit between 13-15 hills and 12-16 hills. Overall the rough is thicker and in beautiful shape. Rated 7-10.

The more I play here the more I enjoy it. It would not be my first choice in the area but its a must play on birthday rounds and rounds that you can land a deal on--especially in its nice current shape.

Played 1-24-17 on a Teeoff deal for $18.49 including cart. It was cart path only and we teed off at 12:20 and finished at 4:35 as a twosome with some waiting on foursomes in front of us. Tee boxes were on the thin side and a little un-level. Fairways had about three different types of grass, all growing at different heights with some small bare spots here and there which most likely is not going to give you a good lie in the fairway.. The rough was in about the same shape as the fairways, mostly cut pretty short with some long areas mixed in. Was in one greenside bunker on the back side that was pretty firm with some minor erosion from the rains.They were working on the bunkers on the front side getting them back into what looked like pretty good shape. Greens were a little soft and showing some foot prints from the groups in front of us but they still rolled pretty good with medium speed. Overall course is in just okay shape but it did seem to hold up pretty well from the rains.

Course was cart path only - which I can understand on some of the holes, but some were completely dry and should have been normal operations. Course in general was okay at best - and for that reason I won't go into my normal detail on a review. Boxes were okay, fairways were okay but greens were horrible. Far too soft and everyone who putted left spike marks in/around the hole, as well as quite a few marks. A little unfair to write a review on a course after the amount of rain we've had, so i'll leave it at that.

Played Wednesday morning, had to endure a light rain for a few holes.

Course is in average at best condition. Greens were good - true, decent speed and not too many ball marks that were unrepaired. Would rate them a 7/10.

Boxes were sub-par. While on most you could find a level spot to hit from, there were a lot of divots and the grass wasn't too full on most of them. Quite a few dead spots. Would give them a 5/10.

Sand - only got to visit one beach on this round...sand was thick and wet - likely due to the rain that we endured and the thick, heavy air. Can't really knock the course for that when they don't have too much control over the weather.

Rough was pretty dead. After years of having played in the thick, lush rough at Tierra, this was a different experience. Could always find a way to hit the ball and often even got a little run out of it. Would rate it a 6/10 just based on knowing what it once was.

Fairways - this was the worst part of the course. WAYYYYY too many dead spots on the fairways. Very thin in the areas that had grass too. Would give this a 4/10.

Bottom line - Tierra is a fun layout and I will 100% be back, but will probably give it a little bit of time to get the conditions back a little before heading back out.

Played Saturday Morning with a 7:30 tee time as a twosome. Got out on time with a group in front that we waited on for the first few holes, but opened up after that. The group behind us was at coming up to the tee on two as we left the tee on three, and didn't see them again till about 15 when it looked like they were teeing off on 13 so it felt like we had the course to ourselves. POP was right about 4 hours which for a weekend round was great.

As others have stated and it seems like everyone does this course has two distant feels to it. Holes 1-11 wind through the hills and the native vegetation comes into play, while the final 7 are basically flat with a few gentle rolling fairways here and there.

Tee boxes were in good shape, I didn't notice that it was hard to place a tee like others have stated. Fairways had mostly good coverage dried out in some places, but not to the point of having a hardpan lie. Rough is either thick hard to find your ball type rough or the same as the fairway and mowed close. Wasn't in any sand, but my buddy was in one and it looked to be decent. The greens were soft and a medium speed. Some ball marks and bumps but not to bad. Putted true so can't complain about it to much.

I really want to like the layout, and for the price it wasn't great. Thank you Costco (2 rounds for $80, have to pay an extra 20 each for the early time on the weekend), but with Rustic right down the street and Moorpark a better target golf alternative, I see why it doesn't get the same amount of play and felt like there was hardly anyone out there.

Overall, I would say it's playable for the right price, and I will return, I just wish that the course felt more consistent (Mountain vs Flat).

A tale of two nines. Played the blacks. Front nine is borderline tricked up, "views" oriented golf, with very small landing areas in many of the fairways and crazy undulation. It is a beautiful course but believe they should make some of the fairways a bit more playable. The third hole literally demands you land your ball almost into a hillside with anything but a massive cut. Landed a perfect draw in the middle of the baked out fairway only to discover it had bounced over the wall and out of play.

The back nine is absolutely stunning in my opinion and about as good as it gets for a non super premium course. Peaceful, serene, and more straightforward actual golf.

Great place to work on your tee game and driving but make sure you bring some extra golf balls.

Greens were running medium speed and well. Fairways a bit bare but greener than most Ventura County Courses, Tee boxes are over seeded and decent but a bit uneven. Will be back again.

Tee boxes were hard as nails here and there and rough (as noted in prior review) was extremely spotty, from non-existent to downright US open style around some of the greens. Un-playable in one or two situations.

2 observations about the course in general. It is still a tale of two cities: 1 through 11 are all tight, mountain/target golf, while 12-17 are a partly tricked-up but mainly flat parkland course. Never sure that these two parts merge as one and play like a complete course.

Second: course was empty at prime time on a Sunday. Not sure why as it's an equal play to Rustic or other area courses. (although their rack rate is higher.) But most groups were only twosomes and on the back nine I only saw 2 other groups. Eerie (but most welcome)

Out for the 3rd and last stretch of the bday rounds this morning 9/15/2016 at 8:45am riding the blues teeing off with my buddy Matt(Barkdog1) on a beautiful morning with no wind and temps in the 70's. POP was 3 hrs 30 minutes never waiting on one shot and nobody behind us. I paid $15.00 which is the mandatory cart fee price on your actual birthday. It was nice for a change to play this course on my birthday when the greens were not punched as this is usual maintenance time for punching here.

The greens were fantastic. They were firm, rolling beautifully and holding irons perfectly. I fixed an extra 2-3 fresh ballmarks per green that groups in front somehow just walked by? Anyway the super is doing a great job with the greens--highlight of the course rated an 8/10.

The fairways were more thin than lush--would say 35/65 thin to lush. A ton of roll on drives. I hit a bomb draw on number 5 and the ball rolled to 1ft away from the greenside trap--that gives you an idea on how much roll you can get. The fairways for sure were drier today than I have seen them during this time of year. Rated 6/10

Was in one greenside trap on #12 that contained wet compact sand that was actually easy to hit out of and contained enough sand underneath. Walking by many traps and seeing my buddy play out of a couple they all looked like this. Rated 6.5/10

The tees were more lush than thin and had some divot damage on the par 3's. Some tees were level and some were not so level. You could almost always though hunt and find a good stance. Rated 6.5/10

The rough ranged from lush just off the fairways on some holes to very Rough and Dry on others--hard to rate.

Layout is very fun, unique, tight on the front nine and overall a pleasure to play. I don't think I would pay the morning rack rate of $65.00 but I could see possibly paying the twilight rate here. Considering its 1 mile from me--I will continue to play Bday rounds and e-mail specials here.

Its been a while since I've played here, and the first time that I've touched a club in a month so needless to say I went back to my favorite local course. Played this morning at 605 as a single. Second person out on the course; still a little dark when teeing off, so you know this was a quick round. Was actually back home in Saugus by 930.

Got out for $49 riding.

Boxes - 8/10. Generally level, could find a good lie on every one. Only thing keeping this down is that several of them were a little thin where they placed the rocks today. Had they been 5-10 feet forward or backwards, probably would have given this a 10. Overall, VERY playable and certainly not something to deter anyone from the course.

Bunks - 7/10. Found myself in a few today unfortunately. Both greenside and fairway. The greenside bunks were nice and full. Being so early they were a little wet and heavy, but I would surmise that by 10am they were in great shape. The fairway bunks were thin. 100% opposite the greenside bunks. I ended up pulling my ball out of the third one I went in since I wasn't keeping score.

Fairways - 8/10. Fantastic, given the water situation this state has put itself in over the last few years. Found a few thin lies but overall was pretty impressed with the state of the fairways.

Greens - 9/10. These were the highlight of the round. Every one of them was in great shape and rolled true. Only reason I can't give them a 10/10 is because there were a bunch of ball marks that weren't fixed. Not the courses fault per se, but I did have a crew of guys 2 holes in front me the entire day and a work following me on every hole to change the cup location - any of them could have fixed the ball marks.

Rough - 5/10. If there was any negative at all here, it was the rough. Depending on what you prefer, this could have been a much higher rating. Personally, I like the rough to be longer than what is out there currently (guessing it's due to lack of water, but that's pure speculation). Rough looked to be a similar length to the fairway, just yellow-er grass.

Side note - the hillsides/waste areas were VERY clean. Made it really easy to find a lot of balls today.

Overall - highly recommend this course anytime, but I have a bit of a bias for it since I grew up in the neighborhood you can see on the other side of the freeway on holes 2/3 and played here every day when I was learning how to golf.
