What a difference a few months makes. After reading the review from this past February, I was looking forward to great conditions at this course. BIG DISSAPOINTMENT! Yes, it was considerably warmer than in February - in the mid 90's. But the real heat in the Phoenix area hasn't really started yet. My best word to describe the course conditions right now is ROUGH. The fairways are mostly quite thin, with many burnt out areas that have been recently punched. There are numerous areas where grass patches have replaced regular turf, and these are dead. I had many lies in the fairway that were on dead, punched, chewed up grass. The areas around the greens were very thin and dried out, or wet. Either way, getting a wedge under the ball was VERY difficult. The greens look bad, from an aesthetics point of view. They rolled somewhat smooth, but were also a little bumpy. My main complaint is with the inconsistent speeds from green to green. It made putting a real challenge. Although the layout is decent, it was just no fun playing this burnt out, dry course. We paid $60 for each round, and it was not worth that much too me. I do not recommend playing this course right now.

Played here today (2/15) with my father in law on an absolutely perfect Peoria day; cool to start but mid to upper 60's by the 6th hole and almost no wind. 10:12AM tee time on a busy but very quick day considering all the waiting on every hole until 13 when the culprits finally let us pass. Paid what I assume is the rack rate of $100 here since it's prime season in the valley and golf is clearly exploding, but even then I would probably pay it again to play here. I like the layout, the conditions were amazing (greens were slightly less than great because of recent top-dressing), staff was friendly, pace was excellent, and I just happened to shoot the best round of my golfing "career".

Tee boxes: Not sure I have ever seen tee markers set so wide apart and let me tell you, it works! Great conditioned tee boxes and four major sets of tee options for players of all skill level.

Fairways: Lush green carpet; no other way to describe it. Played with a member who tells me they rotate one hole as CPO every day so they don't get so beat up by the amount of play this place receives during the busy season. Roll was fair, visually they were stunning, and not a bad lie all day.

Rough: Penal though to be fair, I don't remember it being so bad that it affected my shot making terribly. The further you go away from the fairway the thicker the rough of course, but my bad shots rarely required more than an extra club.

Sand: Was in one fairway bunker and one (now infamous) greenside bunker. Fairway bunkers were a bit crustier, but all the sand here is the darker brown desert sand rather than the pearl white Pebble sand you see in many higher end places.

Greens: Unfortunately, the greens had recently received some top dressing and it was more apparent in some holes than others. It didn't affect break too much but did affect speed. No crazy undulation here and greens are a decent size.

ETC: As mentioned, layout here was fun, however reminiscent of many mid-level desert courses; winding through housing development. Staff was very friendly. No GPS on carts. Restaurant was not offering any food and beverage cart attendant only had snacks. Love that they offer so many tees for players of all skills. Price was a tad more than I wanted to pay but for all the reasons mentioned in the first paragraph, this course was fun and is recommended.

Overview: Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia is in the Shea Homes built master planned community of Trilogy at Vistancia. The golf club was designed by Gary Panks and opened for play in February of 2004. The links style course has 70 pronounced and transitional bunker areas. Originally the course had a beautiful golden hued native grass that grew about 10-15 yards off the edge of the fairway and was often almost 1 to 2 feet in length. If a ball was hit into the native grass, it was almost 50/50 you would be able to find it. The contrast between the over seeded rye grass and this native grass was very unique, but there was a lot of complaints about the amount of balls that could and would be lost in the native fescue grass.

COVID-19: All the staff wore face masks and if your group was not from the same household each player could ride alone. No water was on the course, no seed in the carts and no rakes in the bunkers.

Clubhouse/Pro shop: Acclaimed Scottsdale Architect Bing Hu designed the clubhouse that holds V's Taproom and the pro shop. Mr Bing has built many dream homes through out the world and he has also designed clubhouses for Desert Mountain and the Gallery Golf Club in Tucson.
My wife and I spend time at V's Taproom and we enjoy the menu and the outdoor patio area that over looks the 18th hole and the practice facility. We had dinner there the night before Thanksgiving and looking down the 18th fairway I could see that the over seed turned out really well.

Course: While I live only about 15 minutes from the course, I have only played the course once in the past 5 -6 years. From about 2010 to about the last year or so, I have not been really impressed with the condition of the course ... even during the high season. The greens have been spotty at best and for awhile this year they used a temporary green for the 6th hole. The first 200 yards of the 18th fairway have been poor over the years, but this past late spring and summer it looked like they had lost 90% of the grass in that area. I really enjoy the layout ... especially the par 4 3rd hole, the short par 4 6th hole, #10, #11, #13 and #15 - #18, but have stayed away for the most part because of the course conditions.
As we ate dinner last week, I decided that I had to get out and play it again. I was glad that I did ... we had a beautiful 1st day of December to play golf. Not a cloud in the sky, the wind was down (which is very strange at Vistancia) and the temperature peaked at 70 degrees. The course was probably in the best shape I have seen it in since 2010. The overseed came our great ... the greens were smooth and ran at a medium speed, fairways were lush and had good grass coverage, the over seeded rough was in good shape and the native area was cut back significantly. The bunkers were not in great shape because we could not rake them. The 6th green was in great shape and the fairway on the 18th hole was in peak condition.

Final Thoughts: As mentioned earlier, I really like the layout and it seems like the course will be in great shape for the high season. Right now the rates are a great value. We paid $55 and then tax for a 11:40 am tee time ... which I think is super for the time of year. If you are visiting the Valley of the Sun in the next few months, I would definitely suggest that you play the Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia. Happy Holidays!!

My friend and I were probably the only two people on the course, so POP was no problem. $20 is a great deal for what is normally a wonderful course, even in the heat. Unfortunately, the greens here are in terrible shape. I have been playing Trilogy since it opened and I have never seen any aspect of the course in such poor condition as the greens were on this day, I'm sad to say. All the greens had major areas where the grass was dead or even bare. It was rare to find a smooth putt and so putting was essentially not possible. Very disappointing. Bermuda can rally quickly, especially when the monsoons show up and we start getting moisture again (if indeed the only issue is lack of moisture). But I'd give this course a pass for a while and maybe drive by and take a look at the putting green to get an idea of whether the greens are recovering before playing here again. Hope they can come back because this remains an excellent course and the rest of the course remained in good condition. Fairways were firm and rolling but had good coverage, tees had a good amount of grass, and the bunkers (I was in plenty on the back nine) all had ample sand. But the greens would keep me away until they are better.

Played 7/14 around 945 with a rate of around $40 off their website. Rate included range balls as well as GPS on the carts. Quite a bit of play going on and I started as a single but joined with another twosome after a foursome in front of me decided they didn’t want to let a single play through.
The course was well conditioned for the time of year. Some bare spots on the fairways but they still had grass on them. Recent rains probably helped the situation. Greens were all in good shape and on the slow side. The course provides opportunities to score well as long as you keep it in play. Desert areas and native grass areas protect the course. The back nine is definitely more difficult with some long par 4s. The 18th is a tough finishing hole as a par 5.
As of right now Vistancia is a place to go. The 303 freeway makes it much more accessible.

The highlight of my four rounds in the Phoenix area. Beautiful club house. Excellent service from everyone. With exception of a few areas that were being repaired with sod the course is in excellent condition. Tees perfect. Fairways were very nice. Not too hard, not too soft. Rough was relatively short. They had cut most of the deep, deep scrub brush off of the fairways down very low. From what I understand when it is at its normal depth it is tough if not impossible to find/hit your ball from. Green side rough and chipping areas are very good. Greens were very nice. Excellent condition. Not as slow as the other courses I played but still pretty slow. Grain plays a big part in speed and break on these bad boys. A few people when hearing that I was playing there gave me the "bring lots of balls". While that would be true when the native grass is long for a high handicapper, if you can keep it near the fairways you will be fine. Most driving holes offer plenty of room to hit the big dog (Watch out for number 3 tee shot). Also, great set of par 5's. All in all a really, really nice course. Some purists don't like courses that play through houses but it did not distract or bother me in any way. Probably the best/favorite new (to me) track I have played this year. Killer deals in the summer time. I have to assume in the high season it would be quite pricey.

This was the last of my four rounds on Sunday. During my morning round at Quintero, the guys I was playing with were raving about the current conditions at Vistancia. It was a convenient option and the price was great (only $20 plus some tax). I called over and they said it was pretty wide open. I teed off around 4:40, played through a few groups and finished in about 2 hours. The course conditions were indeed excellent. Hard to believe this course hasn't gotten a review since 2014, but things are far from what the last reviewer described. This course rated the best across the board for me on this trip. The conditions were a little firmer out here, so I actually appreciated the extra roll-out on drives after so many soft and fluffy fairways. Still, the grass was lush, green and beautifully kept throughout the tee boxes, fairways and rough. Always had perfect lies and found few flaws anywhere. Only issue was with the bunkers. They had great sand, but every one I was in was littered with footprints. The greens were on the firm and dry side, so ball marks were few and far between. They were still reasonably receptive and most importantly they were rolling very smooth and quicker than any of the other AZ courses I played on this trip. This is an enjoyable course. Not as dramatic a setting as Quintero. It's flatter land, so there are no significant changes in elevation. The course still has nice contours to keep thing interesting. Lots of native desert areas and some hazards in play. Fairways pretty forgiving. Greens feature some nice undulation. A fair test of your game with a good mix of holes, but the course won't beat you up too much if you play the proper tees. Overall, a very nice layout and fantastic late summer conditions. Amazing deal for what I paid. After my round, I was enticed by the smell of wood-fired pizza coming from the Tap Room here. I decided to sit down for a bite and was very glad I did. Great menu and some of the best pizza I've ever had!

The course is and has been in poor playing shape for a few months. They have tried verticutting fairways and now they have aerated the fairways and the greens. They have very poorly maintained sand traps. The desert grass is not maintained and it is easy to lose a ball being just off of the fairway as there is no rough. The greens will take 2-3 weeks to recover from the aeration and only one coat of top dressing has been used. It seems that the sand was used vs. dry sand. I am not sure that the superintendent knows what to do and he seems understaffed. There are better courses to play in the area and they charge the same or less. I would not rate this a 5 star golf course as they state that they are...low rating of a 2.0

I played Vistancia on 6/23 at 2pm. The course was empty and I was able to get out by myself. Greens fee was $20 including range balls. Not a bad deal if the heat doesn't bother you. No beverage cart was out but they do have coolers on the carts and water every other hole.
The course has dried out some since I played in May. Tee shots carry a bit further but the course is still challenging. The native grass areas seem to suck tee shots in and hide them. The fairways were a bit dried out and had some bare spots but they weren't horrible. The sand traps were in great condition and it shows they try to take care of them. Tee boxes were in good and level.
The greens were good save for the lack of consideration by other golfers. Every green on the course had numerous unrepaired divots, spike drag marks, drag marks from picking up the pin, and marks from where people leaned on their putter. Many of these were near the hole or in my putting line. The person or people responsible are probably the same as the person who left their used tee on every tee box and couldn't bend down to pick it up. I understand it's summertime and maybe the course isn't as lush as in winter/spring but a little consideration for other people playing the course goes a long way.
Vistancia is a fun and challenging course worth the drive up there. It's amazing what has been built around that area since I first played the course eight years ago.
