Played Thursday 9/28. Wide open links style course in very good running shape. Played the 6400-yard white tees which is the maximum I like to play. Course had a lot of roll to it, and all greens are open up front. So even though I had to hit a lot of fairway woods on approaches they would either run on the green or end up where you could easily putt from the smooth grass. Which helped because the back nine has several stout par 4's from the white tees. (422,395,430,385,421) Then for some reason the last hole plays 420 to an island green (no water in the hazard, but not likely to find the ball in the scrub) that lists as a par 5. It is 456 from the tips if I had known I would have played it from back there as a pretty easy par 5. Greens were on the large side and med fast; tees fairways and traps were all in good shape. Course plays thru a housing development and the routing is a little confusing but nothing mind-bending, just have to pay attention. No real cart paths so it's a little dusty. Got there at 3:30 and had the entire course to myself. I Paid $41 that had to be booked online or its $51. I think the online specials start at 11, so $40 midweek for prime time is more than fair, at 3:30 it could have been less.

Yesterday was my first time playing at Pheasant Run Golf Course, and I was very excited to play! The people in the golf shop were awesome and helpful. The pace of play was great, although I did go on a Tuesday morning, so it was very slow. Finished my round in just under 3 hours, as I did play by myself. I was impressed with the Front 9 holes as they were well up-kept with solid greens. The Back 9 is where I started getting a bit frustrated. I've never played on a golf course with such bumpy fairways. I have never experienced a golf cart bouncing up and down so ferociously. This happened on almost ALL fairways on the Back 9. I understand the unevenness in the rough, but not on the fairway's. I was getting extremely annoyed with that. The lack of concrete cart paths throughout the course was also very shocking to me. At times it felt though I was driving my golf cart throughout the desert with all of the dirt! Overall I was semi-bummed out with the course, and won't be playing their any time soon.

I ended the 2020 year with a round at pheasant run yesterday. Greens were in decent shape and the highlight of the course. Most greens are medium to large in size with subtle breaks and the occasional double tier that is manageable even if you end up on the wrong level.

Greens rolled smooth at a medium fast pace Sand traps were ok. About average for a valley muni course. Fairways and tee boxes were below average

Pace of play seemed longer than it actually was because of the cold temperature. We had a short wait on most shots. With all of the water features on this track it makes it a challenge and stand out from all of the other flat courses in the area. Hopefully when spring rolls around this place will be worth playing more than just on a rare occasion or like yesterday it was confident as it was on my way home and only 30 miles from by buddies house.

I would have enjoyed the course a lot more had my birdie putt on 18 not lipped out. Was soooo looking forward to having the birdie of 2020!

I played Pheasant Run Friday afternoon and what once was one of my favorite little hidden gem is now in sad condition. I can’t comment on the greens as they were recently punched. My guess is they did them earlier in the week. The fairways is were the course is really showing the poor conditions. Fairways were very thin with several “GUR” portions marked out due to no grass at all. Tee boxes weren’t too bad. About what you would expect for a typical muni course. I was happy to see that the sand traps were improved from the last time I played here. Bunkers actually had a playable amount of sand in them.

I still like the layout of Pheasant Run with all the water features. The par 4’s are all long in distance. Usually a long iron (or hybrid) for your approach shot. Once the greens heal and the temps cool off so the fairways have a chance to rebound, I might give it another shot. But it’s definitely a skip it for now.

COVID: cups are turned upside down, no rakes, single rider per cart, only two people allowed in the pro shop at a time, outside patio dining only for the restaurant which has a limited menu. No flags in on the practice putting green.

First off let me say that this GC beat the ?? out of me this time. So the weather was cold and there was a constant 10 to 15 mph wind. We were 3 and pop was just short of 4 hrs.
The tee boxes were all level and good. The par 3 boxes were chewed up quite a bit. The fairways were at best a five. There were tufts of grass between dormant or dead areas. There were a lot of areas where there was supposed to be rough but there wasn’t a single green thing in sight. The rough had turned to mud. The greens were surprisingly good considering the rest of the course. They were smooth rolled pretty true and were med in terms of speed. I was in 2 bunkers one had sand but it was extremely wet and the second was so full of water that I had
no place to even place my ball. GIR rule could be applied.
All in all I was tired and pretty beat up by the end of the day. Oh my score was an 84.

Pheasant run is another decent valley course. The greens at Pheasant Run are always in very nice shape and today was no different. Greens were smooth, pitch mark free and rolled at a fast pace. About half of the greens are single tiered with just a slight slope making you pay very close attention to the read because the breaks are very subtle. Others are two tiered with moderate undulations.

Whereas the rest of the conditions on the course were below average the greens were a definite highlight. I will say that I was pleasantly surprised by the sand in the greenside bunkers. I sampled plenty of bunkers on the back nine and all but one were above average for the area. In fact some would be suitable for higher end course.

Tee boxes and fairways on the other hand, left something to be desired. Tee boxes were flat but had patchy coverage. Not a real issue when teeing up a driver but made using anything else a real challenge. The par 3 boxes also had several divots in them.

Fairways were thin to very thin. It’s winter time so I get it but I’d say they could probably do a better job on the fairways to at least bring them up to average conditions.

Rough is pretty much non-existent. Hardpan dirt lies between fairways. Skirt area around the greens is also thin to patchy.

Layout is fun and challenging. There are several water features throughout the entire course. I believe water comes into play on like 10-13 of the holes including a peninsula green par 3 and an Island green on the Par 5 Eighteenth hole.

Pro shop is nothing special but the bar and restaurant are nice and well worth stopping at before/after the round. If you’re traveling through central California on Highway 99, Pheasant Run is worth a stop. Conditions right now are so so but the water features alone make it a worthy play.

Another fun day playing with the new GK App. Took some friends to Pheasant Run so they could experience the numerous water hazards on the course. And by numerous, I mean 13 of the holes have water in play. The peninsula green par 3 fourth hole and island green 18th highlight a track filled with forced carries and strategic shot placement due to the water hazzards. Plain and simple the water features make what would be a boring and dull track, fun and exciting. Greens were running their usual smoothness and in good shape. The first few were sloooow. Then we let the mower get ahead of us and they rolled a medium-fast pace. Greens aren't too complex. Most are single tier or have a small shelf in the middle to split the green into an upper and lower. They easily held well struck shots from all distances and were the highland of the course condition wise. Fairways were feeling the end of the summer beat down. A number of brown and thin areas mixed in with the green and lush. I was fortunate and avoided the thin areas (when I was in the fairway at least). There really isn't any rough at Pheasant Run. Once off the fairway, you are either in water or hardpan dirt that separates adjoining fairways. It would be nice to see a buffer layer between the fairway and the dirt "run off" area. Skirt areas around the greens were in very nice shape. It's obvious that the grounds crew put their effort into the greens and surrounding area. Bunkers were OK. About average for the valley. Tee boxes were decent on the par 4 & 5's but horrible on the Par 3's. Every Par 3 was chewed up with divots. Pace of Play..... 5 hours. the two groups in front of us were brutal. The only thing that mae it manageable was we were a foursome with a couple of rookies that were struggling from time to time, but even with their constant double, triple and worse scores, we were still waiting on the group ahead on every shot. Because of the slow play we didn't get a chcance to eat on site but the restaurant at Pheasant Run is worth the stay (very similar to Ridge Creek). All in all Pheasant Run is an enjoyable track at a reasonable rate with decent conditions.

Played only 9 holes on Sunday due to a front that came in quick and fast and hard and practically blew us off the course.

We had a big rain over the weekend and was happy to get 9 in but was pleasantly surprised how well the course drains and soaks up water. Had 1 mud ball the entire 9 we played and that was because it in the hardpan/muddy area right of 1 fairway.

Greens were rolling well but slower than normal and that cost me many strokes! But overall the front 9 was in good shape.

The bunkers on the other hand were covered in rocks. My buddy and I refused to hit out of them because there was so many rocks. I get they probably didn’t get much work due to the rains but man I’ve never seen so many bunkers littered with rocks.

Got a rain check for 9 + a cart to finish our rounds and already looking at the weather!

What is usually a favorite valley course, I was dissapointed in the conditions yesterday. Greens remain a strong point in that they were smooth and rolling at a medium-fast pace. Greens held approach shots well and had few pitch marks. Greens were ratted at a 7.5-8. The fairways however were a huge dissapointment. 50/50 green/brown with numerous thin and bare spots throughout.

Tee boxes ranged from just ok to horrendous. All were level (the entire course is flat) but all had thin spots and severe divot damage. Numerous bare dirt areas in the skirt areas surrounding the greens.

Sand traps were actually fairly nice. I was surprised at how nice the sand traps were actually. POP was a bit on the slow side but to be expected as this is their anniversary week and are holding $20 w/ cart specials.

I still love the layout and challange of this track with the dozen water features that come into play including the island 18th green. However conditions are below average right now.
