Been playing here for more than 30 years. It was in real rough shape a couple years ago. There is more work being done on the course now than any of the previous 30+ yrs. Cart path repairs, drinking fountains installed, bathrooms completely cleaned remodeled (very, very nice!), and bunkers with actual sand for the first time in decades!! The greens here are worth the drive, no poa!!!!!! Smooth, maybe 9 on stimp. Due to the bare-ish fairways green fees are cheap. Worth the 40 min. drive.

I’ve been playing TDS once or twice a week for almost a month now.
I’ve heard stories that the course have been closed for almost two years and just reopened- sorry, I have no details on that not yet anyway. But I can believe the review before me. It was rough as they experience some rough times. More rough days are ahead but the dedication and efforts are there.
They’ve been cleaning up some out there but the fairways aree baren more than grass and you will be on a barren lies- i may be lucky for having decent lies.
The greens here are best- no it’s not hairy anymore. It’s good and smooth like at 9,5 on the meter.
So it’s cheap and I even walked it twice already.
Sand trap has mix granules antan easy out for most part.
Pace have been quick. Not too many plays here when it’s cold so you can literally be on any hole for as long as you want (almost) or just zip as quick as you can play.
Met a guy who plays it all the time and travels there from Magic Mountain area- he said he just wants to play in three hours.
I hope they get their money from people who plays it… it just needs players. They’re serious about making it a success and I don’t mind playing it a few times.
The most impressive part is the greens- it’s nice.
Used to play here in the early 90s. This is a good track- just needs grass.

Played Monday morning the 14th. $29 to ride. Tough walk in the heat. Course has not been going down hill for a long time. Good news it looks like they are trying to improve it. They were starting the remodel of the clubhouse the day we arrived. On to the course. Greens best part medium speed a little hairy, but good overall. A few thin parts but overall fine and the best part of the course. Tees were workable, Some thin spots, some needed mowing. Fairways oh boy! Here is the problem. Since they cover the most acreage they were the worst part. They had parts of super wet (first hole had a deep puddle with ducks floating in it) To thin and bare in some areas. All were really long and desperately needed mowing. Which they were doing behind us!!!!!!!. Rough was similar to the fairways. Bunkers.
They have let a lot of them go to grass. The ones that remain are quite hard as they get baked everyday. All the lakes had water in them also. talking to guy in pro shop Cal City is commited to making the course good again. I hope so its a wonderful layout and challenging, becoming really tough when the wind blows.

Played Friday the 4th. POP excellent went through a couple of groups and finished in two hours while hitting two balls the whole way and no rushing at all. paid $34 which is in line for what you get. Condition wise acceptable for that price. Tees were very good even on the Par 3. Fairways were decent some bare spots along the edges. Rough was mostly desert with spots of grass. Greens were quite good medium speed lots of slope rolled fine. A couple of greens had some bare damaged spots but nothing horrific. Bunkers were not great, but not horrible either, playable. What you get is an inexpensive round of golf on a challenging course with average conditions.

First stop of the 3 day Great Golf Trip. Chosen mainly for location. Tierra Del Sol has just good enough conditioning so that you aren't bothered by it. Tees have some bare spots but you can always find a good spot. Fairways are typical for this time of year, brown a few bare spots, but very playable. I somehow missed all the bunkers but they typically have just enough sand to hit out of. Not sure if they really have sand it is about the color and texture of cat litter. The greens have a couple of spots of sparse coverage, but are good. Med fast, lots of slope and always break more than it looks. Great test of the driver as every hole has ob mostly on the left. Greens are well protected with sand and water. If you catch it on a good weather day and don't mind some less than good areas it is a very good test. Tues and Thur golf, cart and lunch for $30.

My day-long tour of Kern County courses started here this morning. I called yesterday and the pro shop guy said he usually gets there around 6:30 to open up. Myself and a few regulars/members were waiting there when he showed up. I warmed up a little bit and the other two guys went off and set a good pace. I had to wait on them a couple times, but still just over 2 hour morning pace! $29 with a cart, good deal. Very nice guy working there welcomed me and showed me the funky routing of the holes so I wouldn't get too lost out there. The course was in OK shape. The fairways and rough were a mix of grasses and lies varied, but mostly playable. The tee boxes were decent. The greens were 80% good soft green grass, but most of them had some big dead patches that were pretty awful. They keep the pins away from the bad areas, but you still have to putt or chip across sometimes and it's not fun. Everything very soggy and wet this morning. The cart paths had a lot of flooded areas and are very beat-up, so it was an adventure driving around the course. The sand traps were pretty bad. I was in a bunch and a few were decent (very damp, though) and others downright horrible. Though conditions weren't great (not that I would expect too much for the price and remote location), the course was an enjoyable layout. Somewhat links style in the high desert. Flat landscape, but mounding, ample bunkers and a few big water hazards to provide some contour. A few blind shots and awkward angles where more local knowledge or more clearly distinguished fairway/rough cuts would have helped for aiming off the tee. Very well-protected greens with a big bunker usually right in front of the pin. Fun layout at a reasonable price, but in the middle of nowhere!

quality design, decent length, some difficulty from back requiring good shots. overall this is a very good course, very inexpensive but in the middle of nowhere. fairways are definitely not manicured but do not give you horrible lies even with frequent dead or rough spots. kind of thin fairways but expected for desert conditions. sand was invaded with weeds but also crusted from heat and difficult to play. clubhouse essentially just a counter with few items but apparent this is run by someone who loves golf. little kitchen with decent food.
bare bones, inexpensive, good golf overall.

Having played this course twicw i can honestly say that this course plays much more difficult than it appears. The course has many holes where water and OB comes into play. The rough also includes desert gullies that remind me of the Sahara...(Smile) If you play after August/September be prepared for gusty winds of 20-30 mph throughout the day. Sand traps tend to be a little under cared for, but playable. The direction and lack of level ground on the tees makes it a little more difficult for the average/casual golfer. The Clubhouse/19th Hole is quaint and friendly. It is often filled with old patrons and regular/club members talking golf and watching sports. An average course that at times plays very difficult... Worth the visit.... (JMC)
