Darkhorse is in great shape from tee to green. And the layout is fantastic. This is not only the best course in the region, its one of the best public courses in California.

Extremely challenging course..The staff was relly helpful and went out of their way to make you welcome....I feel TOO MANY GOLFERS SEEM TO THINK THEY HAVE A CADDY WITH THEM AND THEY DON"T HAVE TO PICK UP THEIR DIVOTS!!!! A FEW DON"T EVEN FIX THEIR DIVOT ON THE GREENS......they leave them to be done by someone else....Best course available for the money.....Wouldn't go anywhere else....Have about 5 different tee boxes for whatever handicap player you might be....The players are friendly and at times have to wait....some players think they are pros and seem to think they can take their time and that causes others to wait....

This course is one of my favorites. If you like golf in the foothills you'll love this course. Many of the tee boxes are elevated above the fairways making for nice launching pads. The fairways are generous but lined with trees and a several water hazards. The fairway bunkers are appropriatly placed to make you think twice about just bombing a driver on every hole. You'll need your thinking cap on this course. The greens are some of the biggest in the area and a very undulated. You won't find too many flat putts out there. They're in great shape right now and rolling pretty quick (10.9). the signature 18th hole is a downhill par 5 that is reachable for moderate to big hitters that cut the corner. Great hole! There are 5 tee boxes with handicap ratings, so uyou can pick the appropriate challenge. The facilities are very nice with a grass driving range. The staff is probably the friendliest you'll find. They get customer service and as a result, so do you. If you haven't played it, put it on your list, you won't be sorry. I can't wait to go back.

They are the friendliest and most courteous of people ...The cart people go out of their way to greet you and they even brought my buddies golf shoes out to him after his daughter brought them to the course after he forgot to place them back in his vehicle...The Starters are about the best people you would ever meet and most friendly...Can't say enough good things about the DarkHorse staff and the course is in fabulous condition

Although I played my worst round of my life (it was my 6th round in 4 days) i thought the course was fantastic. The course is visually appealing with elevated tee boxes, gorgeous Auburn color sandtraps (although the sand was too hard for my tastes) and a sufficient amount of water. This course was definitely worth the 70.00 or so that I paid.

I played this course in May of 09 but am finally getting around to review it. I will definitely play it again if I am in the area.

I would highly recommend it to ALL golfers..... Very friendly and very courteous, bring carts to parking lot to pick you up with brand new Carts with GPS drains fairly good but has a few areas that becomes very soggy....Cart path only because of the past rains... Many tee Box Choices (5) depending on your handicap .

Played on the 9th of march, day after weeks of storms. Cart path only but still enjoyed. Great layout, some elevated greens and some down hillers. Greens were the best aspect, firm and fast. Fairways a little mushy in spots. Not the best clubhouse or parking lot but this course, come spring time will be a must play in the eastern sacramento area. I will be back, even with a 2 1/2 hour drive.

This appears to be a course with an incredible design that was turned over to an inexperienced maintenance crew. While this course seems to be kept in impeccable shape at a distance, throughout the round I noticed many glaring flaws. For starters they have a crab grass problem which creates numerous eye sores. This is noticeable on the fairway of every hole. The tee boxes have numerous bare spots and quite thin in areas. The sand traps are low on sand and the course is way over watered. Too many mud balls for a 75* day in the middle of August. The only thing this course has going for it besides the design are the greens. The greens are in great shape. Rolling over 10 on the stimp meter and roll incredibly true. There were several unfair hole locations today but once again this is due to the inexperience of the ground crew. A 240 yard par 3 into a stiff wind should never have the pin placed on a ridge. It's hard enough as it sits.

Definately worth the fee.
