Played Sun 6/11 and paired up with 2 other singles. Tee times were running a bit behind, maybe ten minutes or so, not terrible. Somewhat surprised they let a fivesome out ahead of us, but to their credit they played well and fast and the course was busy so there were waits throughout. Always a big log jam on the par 3s, sometimes 2 groups deep.

Course itself is still in very good shape, fairly lush if a little soggy (it was drizzly) from tee to green, and if only they could get the greens in better shape this would be one of the better tracks in the area. Tons of unrepaired pitch marks make putting a challenge to say the least. I did want to mention that I found a surprising number of bunkers and to my surprise they were all filled with pretty soft sand. A recent development?

Despite the unexpected drizzle and pace of play issues and my all around poor play, I can recommend Santa Anita. As the days get warmer I expect the course to firm up but hopefully it can stay in good shape at least through the summer

Feels like it's time to update conditions at Rustic. Got out yesterday as a walking single along with 3 others, all walking. Just an absolutely perfect day. The sun was out, it wasn't hot, the wind was probably in the 5-10mph range. Greens are definitely back to rolling fast again, but on the firmer side. The dormant fairways have sprung back to life and are looking gorgeously green with generous roll out on tee shots again. Tee boxes are in great shape, rough is thick and lush in places, especially the collars around the bunkers where you're basically left to simply take a hack to get back into play. Didn't hit a bunker (close tho!) but the sand looks pretty hard for what it's worth. POP yesterday was probably the best I've ever experienced it, about 4.5 with no waiting at all and no one behind our group for at least 1.5 holes. Might have been an Easter thing!

So glad to finally have gotten some decent weather and taken advantage of the course looking so good. definitely get back out there if you haven't played it in a while. hope it's a sign of come for some wonderful spring golf ahead!

First time out here on Sat 4/1 at noon as part of a foursome. Finally a perfectly beautiful spring day! Was excited to play here and it did not disappoint. Grabbed a bucket of balls from the pro shop and warmed up on the range. I liked that they had chipping markers on the left side so you could dial in some distances at 20-25 yard intervals. The range uses one of those long continuous mats that you can't get a tee in so for drivers you have to stand in front which is kind of awkward but gets the job done.

The course itself from the IV tees doesn't play especially long, but it certainly has its challenges with a number of short par 4s that have risk/reward off the tee. Lots of dog legs! Gotta hit your lines or you'll find yourself in any number of bunkers or be out of position. Fairways are pretty generous for the most part with good roll out, but they're lined with fairly thick rough, so wayward shots can get hung up in them, and there are some OB areas on the edges of a number of holes. Some water trouble lurking out there as well. Fairways were in great condition, bunkers had soft sand, but the one thing that made the day less than a 10/10 was the greens as they'd just been punched a week ago. They were healing nicely but still sandy which made putting a lot more challenging. Rolled fast for the most part but hard to get good lines when it's that bumpy.

Wind picked up probably gusting 15-20 mph by the time we reached the back which makes the course play a little longer in, and you have to compensate for it when it's coming from the side, but it just added to the fun. I do wish they had a better mix of par 3 distances as they all sat in the 170ish range save for one that i think played at 150.

All in all, about a 4.5 hour round, and a lot of fun was had, and I can't wait to get back

Been looking forward to check this one out for a while and if it were up to me it'll be a one and done experience. No amenities to speak of, starter "pro shop" is in a converted shipping container, no real food/drink options unless you count the taco stand by the third tee (on weekends only?). No full range, just a small warm up cage. On the good end, they have a couple of nice practice greens that are true to what's on the course.

Teed off as a foursome at 1 and were waiting on practically every shot. Folks in front of us were awful and the folks behind us were drunk and flipped their cart over on the 17th green, but after greeting the marshal on the second hole didn't see him again after. POP wound up around 5.25 hours.

Course itself reminds me of a longer Debell, which is basically your standard hillside course with narrow tree-lined fairways, lots of OB opportunities if you're not precise with your shots, elevation changes, tricky uneven lies, tiered greens, etc. Also have to contend with power lines and other unsightly obstructions. If you're not hitting them straight here you're in for a long day. Fairways are in average shape, some thin and bare areas, and if you hit a poor shot, or even a good shot that bounces or rolls out the wrong way, you'll undoubtedly find yourself up against a tree at some point.

The bunkers are also in poor shape, with thin to no sand, and full of rocks, but the views around the course are nice, the greens are really nice, soft and receptive and rolling on the slow side, and some of the holes especially on the back 9 are fun, but not a place i'd make the trip out to again

Made a bit of a drive out to El Prado to play Sat 3/4 at 11:15. Having read the reviews had an idea of what to expect but not sure it even met my lowered expectations. First off, driving range was closed due to, I'm guessing, the recent rains making it hard for the ball retriever to work properly. For what it's worth, it's a nice grass range so if it'd been open that would have been a nice feature. There's a quaint restaurant next to the pro shop that serves a decent breakfast as well as sandwiches, etc. A couple of putting greens available as well.

Teed off around 11:20, and almost immediately got that feeling it was going to be a long day. First drive wound up in the fairway in a bare spot which was a sign of things to come. Greens were in decent shape, rolling medium fast and tee boxes were okay. No real consistency to the rough, it was either going to be fairly thick or totally bare. Fairways are a mess, lots of bare spots with divots, so hard to find good lies. Wasn't in many bunkers but they appeared to range from thin and playable to caked in mud/water logged.

Saw the marshal once, at the third tee box telling our group having just come off a par 3 that we needed to pick up the pace. Meanwhile, we were up against the group in front all day and then at the turn at 10 wound up stacked 4 groups back! Really poor POP lead to a 5.5 hour round.

A shame the upkeep is in such poor shape since the track itself is sorta fun, but coupled with the POP it's not a place i'd make any sort of effort to return to unless conditions were to dramatically improve.

had a post storm round sun 2/26, definitely wasn't expecting the course to be in top shape considering the downpour we'd gotten lately but was surprised to find that with the exception of many bunkers which turned into actual water hazards, the course drained nicely. Fairways are winter conditions, a few more divots out there than i'd seen in the past, but generally in good shape. even with all the rain it didn't affect rollout too much, and i was surprised to not find it very muddy at all. greens were probably most affected as they were very soft and a little spongy which made it hard to judge speeds as it seemed to vary by hole. tee boxes were in mostly good and lush condition. enjoyed walking the hanse tees on a overcast day with a chilly breeze. surprised it was a 5 hour round because there was minimal waiting, pace was actually good so i'd recommend walking so you're not just waiting on every shot. Even when the course isn't in the best shape it's still a ton of fun.

Played here on Sunday 2/19. Teed off at 12:50 as part of a foursome. Second time on this course and the main thing i noticed was how much better it plays once it's had some time to dry out. Decent roll out in the fairways, though one of my playing partners had the unfortunate luck to find his tee shots coming to rest in an unfilled divot multiple times. I had mostly decent lies, however, and didn't notice many truly bad areas. Rough was not penal at all, sand traps were mostly in decent shape, raked for the most part, though some fairway traps were certainly firm. Greens were a highlight, most of them ran fairly fast especially on downhill putts, rolling true.

POP on the front was around 3 hours and we didn't think we'd finish but somehow we started moving briskly after about the 10th hole and finished a few minutes after sunset. Really enjoyed the course, there were certainly some holes where the wind either helped or hurt and made you think about club selection. Especially on a few of the holes where water comes into play. Still a fun time and would recommend even though i still think the green fees are a tad high.

Scored another good deal to play here on Sat 2/11 at 11:50 as a single joining another single and a couple. Course is in about the shape I expected with dormant bermuda fairways that are still thin and extremely fast. Wind on this day was tricky at 10-15 mph with gusts and seems to be changing directions. Definitely makes it more challenging! With the thin fairways I was piping drives and had 1 that rolled out to 310 when my normal distance is 250 if that gives you any idea of how firm the fairways play. Greens were fast and the pin placements were brutal! We're talking tournament Sunday with pins four to five paces off the edge tucked into corners. Bunkers were mostly in good shape with good sand and the greens were in good shape and fast. Surprised the pace of play on this day was pretty good at around 4.5 hours. Had a lot of fun and would definitely come back if the price was right!

somehow snagged a last minute time for saturday at 10:30. arrived about an hour prior and warmed up at the 2-story range. then onto the large practice green before walking over to the first tee. Was paired with 3 great gentlemen and we walked the course and I was glad i did as it was such a beautiful day and it was great getting to know my playing partners better.

since it was my first time playing it was great to have course knowledge but it's a funny thing about not having the baggage of prior rounds and just being able to swing freely. probably had my best day ever driving the ball! and since i found myself in the fairway all day i can note that i was hitting off good lies. the course seems to have benefited from the recent wet weather. the course itself is fairly straightforward and forgiving with minimal trouble, though on this day the greens were fast fast. definitely a challenge.

there is also a snack shop on the course that is in the middle of a few holes that has a good selection of refreshments.

the other interesting thing to note were the black/blue/white tees were all grouped together. I believe the course ultimately played as a combo between white and blues but it seems like they're letting the tee boxes heal.

the one downside would be the pace was brutal. wound up about a 5.5 hour round! still, the course and the surrounding griffith park scenery makes this a course i'd definitely like to play again

Played here Sat 1/28 with two other singles. Had an 11:30 tee time but the tee box got a little backed up and we wound up getting out around 20 minutes late. A sign of things to come on this day as the POP was about as bad as I'd experienced, with us barely finishing before sunset. In total a 3 hour front and 2.5 hour back. Pretty brutal.

Other than that, to piggyback on t8fish's review, the course is actually in pretty good shape. Tee boxes can be a little thin but in general the fairways had good coverage and I didn't find myself with a bad/thin lie all day which is a rarity there. Greens were firm so approaches tended to come in hot and bound off the greens. Sand was generally coarse and thin but playable. In spite of waiting around a lot, it was a beautiful southern california day and the views of the san gabriel mountains reminded me that things could always be a lot worse.

Definitely recommend giving this track a try while it's still in pretty good shape

Played Sunday 1/22 in the Malbon tournament. First time making the trek to Borego and it was most definitely worth the drive. Just an incredible setting for a golf course, absolutely nothing but desert and beautiful mountainous backdrops.

Teed off at 12:20 shotgun with probably a 10-15mph wind that died down later in the round. Playing downwind you can really get some distance off the tee especially if you hit the fairways because you'll get lots of rollout if you hit the slopes just right. Every tee box was perfect and level, just about every fairway was nice and green (there were some GUR areas but honestly I hardly noticed and never hit near them), rough was medium and fairly easy to hit from. If you can keep your ball in play (not spraying it into the desert/brush) you should find yourself with an excellent lie. Lots of bunkers of course but they all had beautiful fluffy sand in them. Greens are super tough. Big with tiers and undulation. Gotta hit approaches to the right spots or else it'll be easy to 3 putt. Some holes also have water which adds another element to the fun. Just an all around wonderful golf experience in a pretty special location. Would definitely head back out there and stay nearby to play multiple times

Played here for the first time Saturday 10/8 at 1:20 as part of a foursome. They've got a Trackman setup on the range but you need a member key to utilize. There's also a restaurant/bar that's got some good lunch options if you want to get a pre/post round meal. Pace of play was pretty good, seemed we were consistently right behind the group ahead, no big slowdowns but still wound up a 4:45 round.

Course was in fair to average condition, but honestly a little disappointed in the condition based on the really good reviews I'd read and when you factor the value proposition ($80 w/ cart) it seems a tad overpriced. A good number of overly watered areas (some sand traps had standing water) and thin spots on fairways. I found myself hitting off more than my share of hardpan lies, but there were also good lies, just not consistent. Greens had been punched a couple of weeks ago and are still recovering. Very bumpy, with lots of pitch marks.

I will say that I liked the layout, and there's enough length to make it a challenge. There are some nice holes, I appreciated the water features and I would definitely play again but maybe at a discounted rate.

Oh, and for those that like to walk the course there are a good number of holes where the green to tee is a serious trek.
