Played San Clemente for the first time this morning. Walked 18 in 3.5 hours with a 6:27 tee time. Super impressed with the layout, condition and pace of play. Fairways and tee boxes are in excellent shape. Greens are also excellent and look pretty straight forward until you putt them and encounter subtle breaks that may not be easy to see at first glance. And they are fast. Fast, but fair. Amazingly, I avoided the sand for all 18 holes so can't comment on the traps condition. Pro shop staff and Marshall were top shelf, professional and personable. I have lived in San Diego area for 25 plus years and can't believe today was the first time I played this gem. I'll be back!

Greens are still in disrepair and essentially not playable. Efforts to bring them back are admirable. But, they still have dirt spots, sand, are bumpy and where there is grass run slow because they can't be cut or rolled. Yet they are still charging full price for the rounds unless one buys a Palm Card where the rates are better. However, given condition of the greens it's not even worth the discounted Palm Card rate. What's most troubling is the arrogance of management who seems to think they are the only course in North County San Diego. Hopefully the greens will come back by the fall but until then, many other quality courses where management appreciates the business to play.

Played 6/25 for the first time in over 10 years. I wanted to see first hand if the improvements advertised are taking hold. First off, it was worth the $55 green fee. Layout is nice with some shots requiring thought and proper club selection. Greens in pretty good shape, albeit a little slow on the role. Fairways a solid 7 of 10 with some being in better shape than others. Sand traps are in bad shape and should be called dirt traps as opposed to Sand Traps. 3.5 hour round, courteous staff and clean carts with GPS. All and all not bad for $55 and I can tell they are making efforts to improve which are paying off. Put a little sand in the traps and I will come back.

Played 18 today and could not have been more pleased with the course conditions, layout and staff. Pace of play was right on 4 hours and could have been 30-45 mins late but there was a slow foursome slowing things down a bit. Nonetheless a must play if you are looking for a fair, challenging test on a course with impeccable conditions. And did I mention the $60 green fee is a real bargain for a Troon course!

Play the course once a week and it's one of the best public courses in North County San Diego. Conditions are excellent, including the bunkers. Plenty of challenge for all yet playable for higher handicaps from the right tee boxes. A number of holes are not your typical grip and rip with the driver off the tee and require a little thought and strategic approach. Icing on the cake is the staff who are always professional, friendly and unlike some courses in the area appreciate the business.

Major problem with greens which were created 3-4 weeks ago. Something went wrong with their process and the greens are in horrible, almost unplayable condition. I have played the course for years and never seen anything like this. Lots of sand and bumps on the greens. Not going to resolve itself anytime soon. Course should be offering discounted fees but they are not. Red not Green should be used to describe green conditions as of today May 3
